Chapter 3 - This Eerie feeling

I'm glad we all made it.

I smiled mildly, glancing at everyone who panted as we converged in our current location.

"What's going to be our next move Mustapha," Germaine asked impatiently.

He appeared anxious by every passing every minute. Clearly, something bothered him, but I decided not to pry.

Germaine is the most intelligent amongst us and has a talent for fixing up machinery and creating gadgets necessary for our raid.

Seeing those primitive people must have definitely irritated him, I joked.

There was no way I was going to make this public though.

"I think we should drop this mission Mustapha, I would feel bad if we kill strangers just for selfishness'' Belle spoke out.

Belle is known to be very kind and gentle so it's no surprise that she said that.

"Ehem… Ehehehem!" I cleared my voice hoping to get everyone's attention.

Everyone, clearly having contrasting opinions concerning the mission, all glanced in my direction, eager to hear my verdict.

I took in a deep breath and began my address.

"From the report, it's said that the Dinosaur bones were kept in the temple protected by many armed village men."

We are here to steal them and prevent causalities on the villagers' side. Fortunately, no one has died… yet.

"The plan was to sneak in the village and steal the precious bones without anyone finding us but that plan failed, unfortunately." I paused.

Uneasy glances at me were made, especially from Germaine. They were dissatisfied with how I handled things.

I get it, guys. It's my fault, I wailed internally, but maintained my calm expression.

"This time around, we are going to be a lot more careful and swift. We'll make our second attempt in the night time, it has almost been two days since we got here and our supplies are running low big time, we have to finish this mission as fast as possible." I explained.

My team members nodded, realizing we had to proceed with the mission, one way or the other.

"Ok guys, it's time. You all should take your appropriate positions and commence!" I ordered.

Infiltrating the village was super easy this time around and things progressed accordingly.

This is too easy! I exclaimed, a little suspicious about how the mission went without a hitch, but I couldn't complain just because things were going smoothly for once.

Before long, we had all arrived near the temple and sought to overpower the guards.

Germaine threw a gas ball that contained an anesthetic gas in the midst of the armed villagers, sending them into high alert. However, before they could raise any alarm, the effects kicked in, and immediately, they all fell to slumber.

Now all the front guards have been taken care of, it's time to get inside.

We uniformly stormed the temple, using our watertight formation to invade the sacred grounds of the tribal community.

Upon reaching our target, we were met with yet another surprise.

Standing at the center of the shrine, was a strange old man. His emaciated gait sent shivers down my spine as he was clad In a black and feathery attire. The blade man, having a flowing white beard had similar dressing with the elders we met at the council except his apparel was a lot eerier

What the hell is this?!

The strange man faced his back against us and seemed to be praying to something.

In front of him was a shrine decorated with a Dinosaur skull and skeleton from other animals. We all stood still not knowing what to do, watching him say his prayers in the tribe's usual chant which we could not comprehend.

Suddenly, the old man rose and shifted to face us. His face was so old and wrinkled, seeming devoid of life. I and the members of my crew felt creeped out by his appearance.

"Huhuhuhuhu" He suddenly let out a slight snicker as his large eyes feasted upon us.

What's going on?! I asked myself now.

''Ahh, Hahaha, you fools…" He spoke, having a slithery voice that echoed throughout the gloomy room.

Does he speak English?! My mind rang.

My teammates all appeared shocked by this sudden development, but still maintained their determined expressions, making it appear as if I was the only one who felt the strange chills the man emitted.

"You are done for now. Rejoice, you lot have fulfilled your duty. You are this year's sacrifice!" He said again.

Even though he was speaking the language I understood, I could not comprehend any of the strange things he said.

"Every year I move to the city manipulating the minds of foreigners so that they might come here and be sacrificed. It's the Doctrine by which we offer food to our great God" He gleamed in delight.

Hold up! Is he saying… This was all a setup?!

"It's delighting to see fresh human varieties, yes indeed! The seven of you seem adequate to fill up our great God this year." He grinned, showing his discolored teeth among the few that still clung to his aged gums.

I have a bad feeling about this! My instincts kicked in.

This wasn't just an old man spouting nonsense. Even though he appeared defenseless in face of heavily armed professionals like us, I still felt threatened by his presence.

"Too bad the guards failed to capture you… now I'll have to do all the work".

Instantly, a darkening aura enveloped the room, causing the others to start experiencing the level of darkness I had been perceiving.

A-are we going to die?!
