Chapter 4 - IE4: the dangers of the outside

The event passed on for my parents and siblings like it was nothing. But I was still shocked at what happened. I am now looking intently at my father whose busy pushing back his off springs with his big trunk. I am trying to get his attention this whole time by just looking at him but his gaze would just passed by me.

Why were you avoiding me father! You need to explain what happened back there! I suddenly remembered my theory that I can communicate with other beetles through something like sending my emotions through frequency or connection between our species. Now I crawled near in front of my father whose now looking at me. I send him an emotion of curiousness while looking at his trunk. I think my father received my intention because he lowered his trunk close to me and it glowed in soft blue again. It caught my siblings attention too which made them get close to me and stared solely at father's trunk.

Our mother was just looking at both his partner and offsprings. The glow on father's trunk gets brighter and brighter until we can now see the vicious energy that emits the light. It slowly materialised into a small beetles like us and father made it hover above us. My siblings happily reach for them with their tiny protruding trunk from our forehead. It continued on for a minute. And then the soft blue light shines dimmer and dimmer until the blue beetle disappeared above us along with the light on father's trunk.

It caused my siblings to screech asking for more but our Father transmitted to us that he can't do it anymore for today and then shoved us away and he sits beside our mother who just observed us the whole time. It was clearly magic! And insects in this world too can use it! I wonder if mother can do it too. I should pressed her later to do it too. For now I'm hungry. I crawled close to the pile of fruits and leaves inside the cave. One of my siblings was there eating too. He's the biggest of us, that's maybe because he eats a lot. I should think of a name to call them tomorrow so that I can distinguish them easily. I ate to my heart's content until drowsiness attack me again. 2 of my siblings, one with blue patch on his back and the other one who is the fastest and naughtiest of us all was already sleeping beside our parents. I joined them and I slept again.

I was woken up again suddenly. But this time, it was my mother who wake me up. I shake myself to shake away the drowsiness to see what's happening. My father was waking up the last two sleeping siblings. They were both female. I just know it but I don't know how. The rest was eating in our pile of food which where my mother go after she waked me.

The left food was still many but it was just enough for our breakfast. Everyone digged in and filled their stomach until there wasn't anything left in the stock pile. Our mother headed straight at the cave entrance which was followed by some of my siblings. I felt my other siblings from the back got surprised as our Father shoved us to follow mother. Are we heading outside? For real? Is it safe already? I asked myself but still following along the line our family created with our mom in front and father is at the back making sure no one was falling out of the line.

We finally made it out of our cave and I could clearly see that behind our small Hill was just another view full of tall trees. I was surprised to noticed that my mother's entire length was just as wide as the tree's bottom! I am right that the size of beetles here are bigger than the one on earth. My father was obviously wider than the tree I compared with mother. We continued walking for an hour. I stopped wandering my gaze around because it's just same wherever I turned. Trees, trees, and trees. One of my siblings screeched in exhaustion which then I followed to demand a rest. Our mother looked back at us and then her horn glowed in gold. My eyes widened and mouth agape as one by one, all of my siblings and me floated just above our mother, each of us was covered with golden light which I think was mother's energy making us float. I expressed amazement to my mother which she then replied sending me a her feeling of thankful and pride.

Each of my parents can do magic! I wonder if this magic was on our species or can be learned by everyone. I wonder what magic would I use someday. I kept my thought of amazement for like many minutes but I got dizzy eventually. I noticed some of my siblings floating like lifeless beetles. They must be asleep. I should take some sleeps too. I slept again still hovering above by my mother's magic.

A sword I wielded landed on the shoulder of my opponent which then sliced his body. A shadow blast from my other hands blowed a group of approaching enemies. From my peripheral view, I could see a lightning struck a group of enemies and one by one they collapsed and the ground lifelessly. A man in silver blue armor catches my gazed and bowed respectfully before dissolving into a streak of lightning and lunging forward which destroyed soldiers along its path.

From the sky, a woman in silver armor and Crimson red hair flowing along the wind like her lavender colored caped conjured a spell and a red magic circle appeared in front of her. Countless of whipping tentacles of fire lashed our enemies making a continuous cries of pain and agony released from their mouth as they die mercilessly at the hands of my force.

"My lord, victory is already ours. You can now do it."

I nodded at an old man beside me before my vision turned dark and my body dissolve into cloud of darkness. I caught sight of the whole battlefield as my cloud form hovered above. Countless swords and Shields of my enemies fell to the ground making clanking sound as they run away desperately. My giant form landed in the ground once more spreading the cloud of darkness across the whole battlefield.

My human form materialised as my dark cloud vanished revealing thousands of dead bodies lying on the ground with pure terror and fear etched on their dead face.

Again, I was woken up. But now it's because of a vague dream. I could feel my heart racing very fast. I had a dream like this on my first sleep too but I've only remembered it just now. I could hear voices and see vague silhouette of persons. But what woked me was the sudden Forceful pulse in my heart. What was that? A dream? A nightmare? It wasn't familiar. I doubt that it's somewhere from my memories of my previous world. Neither something here in my present world. It's like it's very foreign for me. I have no little idea what is that.

We where now at an open space under a tree. Soothing sound of rustling leaves above us can be heard and the peaceful moonlight scattered everywhere from the gap of the tree leaves above us made an mystifying feeling. But none of them can ease my racing heart and feeling of fear and confusion.

A worried emotion radiates from my back. I turned my whole body to faced my mother who was so worried about me. Fear and confusion must be emitting from me. I don't know what it was too. I just crawled close to my mother which then nudge me to comfort me. I tried to sleep again forcing the thought out of my mind.

I didn't know when did I fell asleep and for the first time, I was not woken up suddenly. I just woked up by myself and found the two male siblings of mine was still sleeping besides father. My mother was eating along with the two female siblings and the big male sibling on a new pile of foods.

I crawled towards them and ate some of the foods. Everyone was startled by a bird's cry. It was familiar! It was the same who got close on our cave! My mother quickly levitated us and placed us between her back and the tree behind us. My father was in front warily scanning the skies. The bird's cries resounded from our side and it's figure quickly approaching our unaware father. 'Father!' For the first time, instead of sending thoughts of emotion, I called him father. He quickly turned on our left after my call and his large trunk glowed in blue. But it was too late. I don't know how father will use it against the bird but the bird was now very close. Leaves flew towards father surrounding him. I saw my mother's trunk glowed in gold and the bird's cry echoed as it passed us. My father dodge the birds claws and now forming something with his magic.

The bird quickly turned over to dive straight to us when a figure of a giant blue bear appeared in front father. But the bird didn't stopped diving towards us. An emotion of worry transmitted by my mother towards our Father reached me and a thought entered my mind.

My mother's magic is to levitate something and my father's. My father's magic is to create figures. Maybe my parents caught the bird earlier in surprise that's why it was fooled. But now, the bird had an idea of what my father can do.

Our Father did not falter on standing in front of us to protect us from the bird. The bird easily pierce towards the non-physichal figure of a bear and landed in front of our Father. Father caught the bird's beak and locked it in his big trunk. His insect limbs clawed sturdily on the ground as he stopped the birds from going any further towards us. My mother levitated some twigs and sticks and hit the bird with it but it was futile.

I need to help them. I climbed the tree behind us easily with my insect limbs. I got far up for in just few seconds but when I looked down. Fear assaulted me as I remembered I was afraid of height. I did my best to shove this fear inside. My father was doing his best to hold back the bird twice his size and my mother can't barely do anything against the bird.

I don't even know what to do after I jump on top of the bird. That's right! Like when you got attack by a shark, if you had a chance, attack it's eye! I swallowed my fear as I push my self away from the tree. My mom sensed my determination and tried to push me away so that I won't land on top of the bird.

But it's too late, I'm already in the bird. Just not in the head like I wanted. I clinged tightly on the bird's skin. I didn't know my insect limbs were this sharp. The bird got distracted and wriggle it's body to shake me off of him. Father was worried about me but he focused on the bird when it noticed it flapping it's wings. He charged towards the bird's feet and it got entangled in his large truck's branches. My plan was working somehow! Now, I just need to climb my way up of its long neck and stabbed that eye of him. As I stabbed my insect limbs on his neck to climb up, the bird made desperate struggles to shake off both me and father. Even with his huge wing, he can't carry father so he was being pulled by him on the ground. Mother noticed my plan and focused on one twig at a time. She concentrated until he finally found the right timing and shoot the twig right at the birds eye.

The bird release a cry of agony as I finally reached his head and instead of stabbing the other eye. I hold into the twig and shoved it right inside of his head. Like a robot with its battery burst out of its place, the bird stopped moving entirely. Not even a last death twitch was made. Mysteriously, white light leaved the birds body and it got separated on my mother, father and me. What is this? I feel stronger.

I looked at my mother and father proudly and I could feel them in relief and amazement. My mind got confused when both of their expressions turned into horror as they rushed towards me. It felt like the time has slowed.
