Inside the meeting hall
"I knew she is just a paper tiger with so many of us still coming late. I am sure she did not dare say anything for fear of being embarrassed," Mr. Adams did not lower his voice, he was already a middle-aged man and he felt that those second-generation kids needed to be taught how to respect their elders. To him, Emily did not know anything about the company and given his good relationship with Gabriel he was convinced he had nothing to worry about.
Emily was just a person that had money, she did not have the connection to make life difficult for him, with his experience he could easily get a job even if she fired him.
When Gabriel heard his arrogant words he did not say anything to correct him because he did not want to lose face. He knew better than anyone that Emily was not joking about her word the previous day so he had arrived on time for the meeting. Yet a person like Mr. Adams dares to arrogate. Gabriel was not willing to lose the respect he has in the company just to save someone like him. He has been working under Emily for five years, how could he not know that she was not the type to make an empty threat. Back then he did not know that she was just a young girl so he respected her a lot, after getting to meet her and hearing all those words directed towards her he become blinded by his pride.
Many people were just like Gabriel, after tasting the good life they forget where they belong. Because they have a little power they feel like they could conquer the world
"let go and get ready for my next meeting, " Gabriel turned to his sectary and left those managers to their fate. Gabriel was someone who liked to be praised and worshiped. he liked it a lot when all those managers praised him even after doing something wrong so he will give in to them, but he knew that he could not get in Emily's way when she decided on something. Since this was the case he decided to avoid being involved.
when Mr, Adams saw that the vice president left without saying anything he turned to mock those managers who did not stand by his side.
"How did cowards like you become managers? It only a matter of time before even your junior step all over you," he mocked his voice was filled with disdain.
The managers who came early did not take his words to heart. They decided to do the right thing so they did not see anything wrong with their decision. The finance Manager looked at Mr. Adams as if he was looking at a fool. "Why are you looking at me like that? Even if I lose my job here I can get another," Mr.Adams said coldly. He felt that things were fine just the way they were, in his heart Emily must have watched too many dramas that she overestimated herself. it not like they are people in the word scared of her or her family background, she was just a small pond who want to act like an ocean.
This group of managers was also late the next day, this time Emily left the meeting when it was five minutes past the time the meeting was to start. when the managers lead by Mr. Adams arrive to the meeting room at the usual time they saw that the meeting hall was empty.
when Emily left earlier she canceled the meeting so the other four managers also left. when Mr. Adams and his group first arrived at the meeting hall they thought that no one else had come early but after waiting for half an hour but none of the managers or the vice president came in they realized that something was wrong.
Mr. Adams was still very confident, he decided to go and see the vice president but when he got to his office the secretary that was present informed him that the president and vice president were currently having a meeting in the president,s office.
Mr. Adams was confused to hear this, he immediately opens the company managers' group to see if the meeting for the morning was canceled but to her surprise, the meeting was not canceled. so what was going on? this was a question he could not get an answer to.
He returned to the meeting room to inform the other managers what he found out, the other managers panicked when they heard this, no one knew what was going on. one of the sales managers brought out his phone to call miss Jane who was also a sales manager. he knew she attended the meeting on time the previous day.
The phone rang but on one picked up the call, he decided to call the department store number to find out if she was present. this time a sales representative picked up the call and informed him that she was still at the headquarters for the monthly meeting.
when the other managers heard this they did not what to do? was the meeting moved to the president's office? or is it possible that miss Jane already left but was yet to arrive at the store. since the managers could not be sure they decided to go over to the president's office and find out what was going on.
when they got to the president's office a meeting was indeed going on but they were not allowed to go in, all they got was that the president was in a meeting with the vice president, the Human Resource manager, and the finance manager.
Since the meeting had nothing to do with them, these people had no other choice but to return to their office. the day went on as though nothing had happened in the morning, the managers who felt anxious in the morning become more relaxed they convinced themselves that the morning meeting must have been canceled but was not announced. After lunch breath, they revived a call from the president's office to submit their report for the previous month. The managers immediately sent a copy to the president's office, everything seems to have been going smoothly. some of the managers even called Mr. Adams to thank him for bringing up such a wonderful plan. Mr. Adams who was feeling restless since the situation in the morning become smug again. He has been trying to see Gabriel all morning but he was so busy. now that everything was clear he could finally put his heart at rest.
It was almost time for close of work when each of the managers receive an envelope. the managers all receive the envelope, thinking that they have just been sent a circular they opened it with ease only for their eyes to go red after seeing the bold letters that read Two-week suspension without payment.
the more they read through the document the more their eyes turned red, with this kind of evidence against them, even if they dared to quit they might not be able to get jobs somewhere else. they were suspended for insubordination and poor work ethics who would want to employ someone who would not respect them? or take his job seriously.
They were also going to lose their monthly payment and a part of their yearly bounces. this was hash and they were unwilling to accept it even if they knew, they were in the wrong. They all picked up their phones and called Mr. Adams, in their heart, he will have a solution to it.
They refused to believe that they could not pressure Emily into submitting to them.
