Chapter 2 - Blue particles

It was dark, really dark. I couldn't feel anything, I could only think. 'Did I die?' I wondered. Time passed and I still couldn't do anything. And after what seemed like hours of nothingness, I started to see blue particles. The particles were everywhere sometimes in big clusters and sometimes in smaller ones. I had never seen anything like this, it looked like a 3D map the way it took on shapes. After some time, the particles started to fade away and the darkness I had seen before reappeared again. The sensation of nothingness wasn't there this time and I started to see out of my own eyes.

I was buried under my house's rubble.

"AUUGHH!!" I screamed out loud, only feeling the pain of my injuries now.

"My left hand.. is crushed!" I said to myself, hoping it would help me reduce the pain I felt. "No it's not completely crushed, only my ring and middle finger is crushed." I tried to diagnose myself, but I ever only received superficial injuries when training with my Mother, so my knowledge was limited. I tried to make out what injuries I had, by the amount of pain I felt.

'Left hand, ring and middle finger crushed, open wound, blood flow stopped. Left shoulder dislocated and numb, no wound. Ears ringing, ruptured left eardrum, bleeding stopped. Right underarm and left ankle broken, no open wound. And my spine, it felt like it was burning. Does my back have an open wound?' I diagnosed, as I pondered what have caused the pain in my back.

After inspecting my injuries a piercing smell of blood invaded into my nostrils, almost making me throw up my dinner. I could already think what the source of the smell was.

After the pain lessened, I started yelling for my parents, "Mother! Father! Are you here? Can you hear me?". Nothing, no response. The thought that they were dead came to mind, I quickly disregarded that thought and focused on my surrounding again.

Taking deep breaths, trying to ease my pain, I tried figuring out how much time had passed and if people were nearby.

Roughly 2 or 3 hours had passed, so it was around 4 am. After hours spent under the rubble of my house, I wasn't able to hear anything, not even a single voice or vehicle. 'Wasn't there anyone looking for survivors? The entire neighborhood had the same house structure, meaning that they all have collapsed too.' It was too strange. The entire country's buildings couldn't have suffered the same damages.

I noticed water from broken pipes flowing in zig-zags trough the rubble and flowing only a few inches away from my mouth. Knowing I wouldn't have to die from dehydration, made me much calmer and a way to die was wiped off my imaginary list. But there was still my left hand. I had an open wound I couldn't disinfect or clean with water. Dying from an infection would be a slow and painful way to go. There was nothing I could do. I was pinned to the ground with tons of rubble on top of me.

I closed my eyes, trying to gain back my physical and mental strength, but something weird happened. I started seeing the blue particles again. "I wasn't dreaming before I woke up!" I said in surprise. I could see the blue particles but this time there was way less particles than before I woke up. I began to see the particles in clusters and a 3D map style again. While trying out the things I could see, I noticed these blue particles being siphoned into my back and spine.

These blue particles gave a sense of comfort. It was addicting, so much so that my consciousness swam in it, making me forget my need for water and food. I spent hours moving my consciousness trough the particles and when I opened my eyes again, I could see a sun ray between all the rubble. I felt thirsty after moving my consciousness through the particles for hours. I looked at the stone-grey colored water and drank. The water tasted disgusting, tasting like dust and cement powder almost making me throw up. But only this source of water was able to keep me alive, I would have to get used to it.

When I trained in the Space Entity style with my mother, the first thing I learned was to meditate. "Meditating will restore your mental energy and will make your body use less energy and speed up it's healing process." I remembered my mother's words. I followed her training and breathed in a certain pattern and concentrated on my mind and the blue particles. A few more hours passed and I finally felt a change in the particles. The particles split into 2 groups, and started opposing each other, creating a pressure that weighed down on me like the rubble, squeezing air out of my lungs and making it hard to see.

"Mom! Dad! I heard a familiar voice shout. It was my brother, Haru.

"Haru! I'm here!" I yelled. After yelling a few more times, my brother was exactly above me, on top of the rubble. "Haru you're alive, thank god! I thought you had died." I exclaimed, relieved by that fact. I hoped my brother would help me get this weight off of me.

I could feel him crouch and touch the rubble with his hand, smearing whatever was on his hands on it. "Niam, you're a fool! This is the first time in my live I was right and you were wrong. Fate decided to be on my side after all this time and look what happened to you. Buried under the rubble, expecting a slow death."

My relieved smile faded 'How could my brother say that in a situation like this? Was he not happy I was alive? Didn't he come to look for our parents? And why was he hanging onto the words I said yesterday?' I wondered. Even if we hated each other, we were still from the same blood. My Father taught and had us experience the same things, one of which was, that no matter what, we were always to help each other out.

"You must be a cockroach, to be able to survive that long under all the rubble." He said while laughing at me "The reason I came back here was to make sure, you and your parents were dead." He said as he laughed again. "I didn't want to tell you this, but you will die here anyway, so it won't make a difference. There are corpses everywhere on the streets and houses. After the first shock wave and the worldwide earthquake, a second wave carrying blue particles shot around the globe killing almost every human. No plant and no animal was influenced by this second wave. Niam, only those who were strong enough to withstand the particles lived."

I was shocked, no words could escape my mouth anymore. It felt as if a knot had tied my throat shut, making it difficult to breathe and swallow my own saliva.

"I can smell blood somewhere around here, that must mean our parents were crushed to death. What a shame I couldn't witness the end of that old man. Do me a favor and tell them, that I've left the family and passed on the right of succession. Well then, I hope you don't suffer so much before dying. May you rest in piece." He stood up and left. His voice didn't even show the slightest trace of sadness, only joy.

He said he left the family, probably to make both families' traditions die out with me, considering our relatives were of those who didn't survive the seconds wave.
