Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 : Level up

As the creature fell in front of them, Loann tried to stay calm and went to pick one of the wooden shard that the door left after being charged through by the thing.

Meanwhile, Steven was frozen in fear and just looked powerlessly at the creature.

As the creature slowly got up, Loann decided to risk it all and jumped on it with the shard in his hand, trying to stab the thing in the head.

Which failed miserably.

The only thing it did is that it got Steven back to earth and angered what Loann could only consider a zombie, for lack of a better name, after getting a better look at it.

With it's blueish skin, dead looking blood-infused eyes and bloody smell, it was obvious what kind of creature they were facing.

Not even thinking what this meant for humanity as a whole, he just shouted at Steven to run while he tried to keep the creature down.

After an unsuccessful attempt at kicking it down, just feeling like he kicked a tree, he also took off and ran like his life was on the line.

Catching up to Steven who waited for him, they both started to run away but soon got into a bad situation: There was another zombie in front of them.

Although this one seemed weaker than the other, it still was a daunting enemy for them considering they never even fight before.

But powered by pure adrenaline and their will to live, they both nodded at each other and while Steven went to try and bait the zombie-teacher, Loann rushed straight at the zombie in front of him.

While this may seem stupid, they had every reason to believe that theses zombies were like what they were always told to be: Slow idiots with little to no mobility.

And they were half right.

While the zombie Loann was facing really was a slow idiot, the one Steven was trying to bait wasn't.

Well, it was an idiot but not a slow one, considering it just sped up and caught up to Steven in a few seconds, a speed that seemed to go up as time went by. The zombie also seemed incredibly strong, considering each hit left a shock wave in the air.

As Steven successfully grabbed the zombie's attention, Loann could focus on his own enemy with more easy.

After rushing at him, he ducked under a horizontal claw attack and went to the zombie's side, where he just hit the zombie with the shard on the side of the head.

It didn't kill him, but at least knocked him down, where Loann continued his attack and after a few hits, he heard a few notifications:

***!!!*** You have killed a level 3 Zombie. EXP points received.

Bonus EXP points for killing a higher level enemy.

***!!!*** You have reached level 2. +1 to all stats, +5 free points.

Congratulation on reaching level 2. You have officially stopped being a regular human being. You are now an evolved human.

Please choose your main class:

-Warrior

-Mage

-Rogue

-Ranger

-Healer

-Summoner

Loann heard the notification, and didn't hesitate much: After all, he always picked one particular class in every game he played, and he wouldn't settle for any other.

"You have chosen to be a mage. You will now receive +1 wisdom per level up."

"Congratulations! You have received the following skills:

-Beginner Identify

-Beginner Flamethrower"

The young man instinctively hovered his finger on the skills, and sure enough two new panels popped in his vision:

-Beginner Identify: Use it on anything equal to or less than 1.25 times your level to get basic information on whatever you are targeting. You can see more if what you're identifying gives you access, is dead or isn't sentient.

Cost: 5 mana per use

-Beginner Flamethrower: Sends a condensed burst of flame from your hand towards any direction your palm is facing.

Cost: 30 mana per second.

Not bothering to read everything meticulously, he ran towards his friend who was still dodging the zombie.

"Come this way!" Loann screamed

And hearing that, Steven ran as fast as he could in his friend's direction while still dodging the ever-evolving zombie. As he ran past his friend, he saw Loann's right hand glow bright red and start to spew out flames.

As shocked as he was, he quickly understood that it had something to do with the system, and seeing the dead zombie laying on the floor with a caved-in skull, guessed the rest.

As the flames hit the zombie, Loann expected the creature to become a huma---

no, a zombie torch.

But after merely 4 seconds, his skill stopped due to a lack of mana and he began to feel a bit light headed.

As he started to panic, he heard Steven call him, telling him to run away.

He threw one last look to the not-so damaged zombie and took off towards his friend, hoping to find another solution.

As they ran away, Steven couldn't help but ask his friend what just happened. After all, magic always had been their childhood dream and seeing his friend spew fire right out of his hand brought him some much needed excitement amongst all the panic he was feeling.

"After I killed the zombie, the system told me I level up and I had to chose a class. Of course, I picked mage and I guess that I got this skill because of my affinity." Said Loann, not yet over the feeling of using magic for the first time.

"Holy smoke, that's incredible. But right now our priority should be to run away 'cause I don't think what you did was enough to kill the zombie-teacher, and somehow I felt it getting stronger and faster as you were fighting the zombie. I'm pretty sure it's evolving by the second. Luckily, it seems to be a strength-oriented zombie, being quite slow for now."
