Chapter 9 - Someone Special

Caleb opened slowly opened his tired eyes, staring up at the wooden cross-beams that crisscrossed the white painted wood ceiling in a room lit by the pale glow of the moonlight, which spilt through a balcony window overlooking the village.

"W-where am I? What happened…?"

Caleb looked around at his new surroundings confused and dazed. He was in what appeared to be some sort of bedroom lying in a soft, comfortable bed with a blue bedsheet and white fluffy pillow.

"I-Is this Elizabeth's house how did I.."

The door to the room creaked open. Elizabeth peered her head through it looking at Caleb concerned as he lay, still looking up at the ceiling.

"H-Hey Caleb, I heard some noise are you awake?"

"Yeah. I'm awake"

Caleb sat up in his bed clenching his teeth as he rose. His muscles felt as if they had been torn apart.

"C-can I come in?"

"Yeah. If you want."

Elizabeth opened the door and walked into Caleb's room sitting down at the end of his bed. Smiling as she turned to him.

"Caleb…Thanks for saving me and Aegio…I was so scared…I-I thought I was gonna die!"

The memories of the incident poured back into Caleb's mind every single detail as clear as the night sky in front of him.

"Don't thank me…Aegio was the one who saved you…I just sat there like a coward and I-I-I couldn't even save Lizzy…I failed!"

Caleb clenched his fist holding back tears. He refused to look at Elizabeth, he was too ashamed to. He felt as if he let everyone down, Including himself.

"Y'know... once me and Aegio were out fishing and I couldn't catch a single one! I started crying, I was so embarrassed! But then Aegio looked at me and said 'Just because you fail once twice or even three times doesn't mean you'll fail the next time, so keep trying, Ok!'…Aegio always knows what to say…Mother was right…I don't think I could live without him… he's someone special to me …I think I might lo…"

Elizabeth put her hands over her mouth as her face turned red. she shook her head embarrassed at what she was about to admit.

"A-anyway Is that what your friend Lizzy is like to you?"

Caleb paused staring up at the moon, contemplating what Elizabeth just told him.

"Yeah…she's someone special to me too…You're right I can't give up now! I can't give up on Lizzy!"

"And me and Aegio will help! We'll get you both home safe!"

Caleb frowned slightly when he heard 'home' thinking of his home town, his grandma, his mum everything he left behind.

("To be honest until Elizabeth mentioned it just now I hadn't thought that much about home but…I do miss it…grandma…mum…but I've also started to like this place too…Elizabeth…Aegio…this world something about it almost feels like home…")

Elizabeth let out a loud yawn rubbing her eyes.

"Heh, You look tired. Maybe you should go to bed?"

"Yeah, I'm getting sleepy…Goodnight Caleb see you tomorrow"

Elizabeth walked carefully back to her room making sure not to wake any of her family members.

("Defeating Sero... am I really cut out for all of that? One thing I know for sure is... I'm going to find Lizzy nothing else matters until then!")
