Chapter 11 - A Name's Meaning

"Your name is pleasant." Shu said, pretending to be indifferent even though she was secretly reciting the name over and over within her mind.

He laughed, a quiet yet loud laugh that slightly echoed outside of the hidden area. Looking towards the outer layer of shrubs, she felt the need to be sure that no guard heard the noise made by the pair. Sighing is relief, Shu glanced back to the young boy that wore a sheepish expression.

Letting a smile grace her features, she waited for him to elaborate on his amusement, moving her head forward as a gesture of beckoning.

"Considering that is my sole name, I'm very pleased that you approve. Now out with it, young lady. Pray tell what is yours?" he asked, both hands resting on his cheeks with his posture portraying intrigue as he leaned forward.

"Shu Venya." she said.

"That's a beautiful name. Do you by chance know the meaning?" he asked, the smile on his face glowing with satisfaction.

Frowning at his question, Shu grew confused. "My name? I did not know names had meanings. I do not know mine..... what is the meaning of your's?"

"Of course names have meaning. Example, Altan comes from the origin 'Red Dawn' I find that meaning quite lovely if you ask me." he stated, pride swelling in his chest.

Resting her fingers by her chin, she thought of the meaning of his name carefully. Finding 'Red Dawn' to suit him quite well in personality.

"I find it pleasant as well, is it only first names that have meaning? How about your last name?" she asked, genuinely curious of how the principle of naming was made.

"I believe they do, however I have no way of knowing what Ozkan means. Enough of this, I've grown bored... let's leave this area." he said leaning over Shu to look through the shrubs for any guards stationed nearby.

Not waiting for her response, Altan gently grasped her hand, pulling her upward to dash out of the dense area. Pulling his pointer finger to his lips, he made s hushing motion, whispering his destination.

" Let's head towards your fields, young lady. I've never been outside the Xia's estate before."

Nodding in agreement, Shu entangled her small fingers through his much larger hand. Tugging gently to steer him away to a path that contained fewer guards. Shu led him out of the estate without a hitch, the fields desolate from any form of life at this time.

Leading him to the thicket she had been in previously, she sat down as her legs gave out on her. Altan remained standing, looking around in a manner of fascination.

Staring at the moon, Shu felt him plop down before a sigh of wonder was released from his being. Turning her gaze towards him, Shu found herself staring in awe at his excitement towards the field.

"I'm surprised you're enjoying yourself at the sight of the fields." Shu stated, voicing her thoughts towards the young boy.

Turning towards her, his eyes held excitement. "I'm surprised you aren't, although I'm not able to see the scenery to a certain degree, the smell and light provide a fascinating enhancement."

Thinking over his observation, she smiled. "You are an odd one."
