Chapter 13 - Venya

The once young night stretched into hours of conversation. From that period of speaking, a kinship was formed from the easygoing tone that was set upon their beings. At some point during this enjoyable time, they dove indepth of their origins or their slightly distorted memory from their youth.

"I distinctly remember a man being by my side for some years of my life, he gave me a secure feeling. Considering that my birth had to come from somewhere, I would assume he was my biological father. Though I cannot be to sure about that..." Shu stated, feeling no hint of emotion besides melancholy.

Altan observed her for quite a bit of moments after she spoke.

"You are making me feel self conscious, tell me what's on your mind." Shu ordered, fighting the urge to hide her face after she gave a valuable detail of her memory.

Blinking rapidly, he placed his hand on his neck bowing his head, then retracting it too look at her once more. "My apologies, Venya. I just find it odd that there seems to be no curiosity or heavy emotions regarding the subject of your parents."

Shu was startled, no one had used her first name before. Up until now he had heavily addressed her as 'young lady', even after knowing her full name. Maybe he was to tired to think straight? Maybe the vulnerable moment influenced his manner of speaking? Nonetheless, she dwelled on it no further, instead basking in the foreign feeling that bubbled up within her at the use of her personal name.

"There is curiosity, although I prefer not to think on the matter any further than the limitation of my memory. The association of heavy emotions is pointless when my younger self had no way of comprehending the situation." she uttered.

Altan nodded, agreeing with her views. Delicately, as if the words may hurt her if he wasn't to careful, he spoke. "I couldn't possibly imagine the thought of forgetting my parents, it feels like just yesterday, they were offering me a chance to attend school. That is until...."

Until the moment he trailed off, she listened intently eyes wide in a manner that wanted to take in his whole being. Carefully as if in a trance she repeated his final word in a form of a question without a second thought. "Until..?"

He tensed. The clearing of his throat was all she needed to realize her forward behavior. Opening her mouth to utter out another form of apology, a disruption of noises were heard a distance off from the thicket.

Moving her stance to a form of alertness, she motioned for silence to her companion. Hoping to dismiss the noises as apart of her imaginative mind, though instead was met with those noises moving closer.

They were distinguished as masculine yells. Made out to be a slur of cusses and "Get Out Here, Boy!" Turning to Altan, Shu found him with wide startled eyes that quickly shifted to his eyebrows being knitted together and a serious expression set over his facial features.

Slowly he moved closer to her uttering a singular phrase that will haunt her for days to come "They're after me, Venya."

Nodding she whispered a question that would seal their friendship for the remainder of their lives "What's the plan?"
