Chapter 25 - Dungeon Break

I gulped. Edward Walker. S ranked hunter. Sword Saint. Guildmaster of Excalibur. He basically told me that I had power to surpass him or any human in this planet. Before arrogance even took root in me, I pulled and throw it aside.

"That doesn't change the fact that I can't use mana right now."

He nodded.

"Arrogance is a killer. It may not reach you now but it will. One day, surely."

His voice carried a sad tone. It was as if he was trying to give that advice to his younger self.

"How they do it?"

I wanted to change the topic.

"Hm?"

"Werewolves. How do they change humans? Do they bite them?"

"No. That's not easy. While I don't know the exact details, they had to put effort to turn others. If they could do it just with bite, balance between werewolves and vampires would have collapsed long time ago."

It was good to know.

"I am guessing that they cannot turn vampires? Like some kind of vaewolf? Or is it werebat?"

He scoffed. Guess he didn't find my joke funny.

"They are just opposites. It would never work."

Good. I didn't had to worry about being leashed under another "master". I opened the blood bag. Gulping it down, I could feel the cringe rising inside me. I was used to blood. It wasn't a rare occurrence that I would get cuts. Sometimes you would get smacked in face and bleed inside your own mouth. You shallow it. You taste it. You smell it. I was used to it. What I wasn't I used to was licking my lips after drinking it. Squeezing the blood bag for last drops. Feeling disappointed when I finish it. They made me feel disgusted with myself. The fact that I was something else.

"When you gone… How will it be? How will I able to find blood to drink?"

I spat the question with disgust.

"Elizabeth told you that she will send you, didn't she? Then she will."

More chains. More chains to bind me.

"I… can't go on without drinking it, right?"

My tone was so pitiful that I saw Edward's eyes soften, ever slightly.

"It is like eating, Burak. The more you went without, more you feel hungry. When you feel extremely hungry, you would eat anything. You wouldn't want that, trust me."

A warning. A warning about changes of me going feral. Going feral when I was with my family. My fist was clenched tightly even with thought of it. I saw Edward leave. I raised the sword he gave to me. He just shook his head.

"Just think as my way of making sure that my time wouldn't go to waste."

I tilted my head in confusion.

"If you use a shitty weapon and die because of it, my week here would wasted. Just keep it, it isn't special or anything."

I looked at the weapon I was holding. With Hawkeye, I could see the craftsmanship that put into this blade. It was true that it wasn't something special. Despite that, it was best and most high quality weapon I ever held. High quality steel could be used to hunt low tier monsters, depending on hunters skill. Since they could also mass produced relatively easy, most low tier hunters such as myself used steel or "normal" weapons that normal humans can produce with "normal" materials. However, the weapon I held in my hand was made of a metal found in a dungeon. It was also probaby forged by a "producer" hunter. I probably had to save for entire year without spending to pay this back.

"Are you sure it is okay?"

"It was just a spare. I normally don't use that low tier of equipment."

"Oh, I see."

It must be nice being a S tier hunter. Edward probably made at least 10 times more than me.

"Rest for tomorrow. Next day you will be soloing a dungeon."

"I will see in a year, when I become an A rank."

While his back was turned to me, I could swear that Edward had a smile in his face. I also smiled and left the roof we were training at. I pulled my earphones. It was still night. Streets were empty. I guess most people would be spooked by it. Listening metal and slowly walking at streets, I realized how tired I was. Not just from sparring with Edward. From life. From all the shit that happening. From being…

"What?"

Hawkeye actived by itself. 200 meters in front of me. While I had countless buildings between us, I could see what that thing was.

"A dungeon?"

That couldn't be. It was true that dungeons could form at everywhere. But "dungeon forming" wasn't something that happened in an instant. If some dungeon spewed this much of mana, then guilds and goverment would already had it under control.

"It is increasing rapidly?"

It just popped out nowhere and mana coming from it increased this fast. I felt cold sweat slowly running down on my back.

"A dungeon break? In middle of city!"

I quickly pulled my phone. Edward also probably felt this. Yet, I had to raport this. But before I could even type one number a loud noise shook the entire area. I felt the ground beneath my feet tremble. Some windows were broken.

"It happened."

Dungeon actually broke. That meant that monsters would rush out of the dungeon! I took a step towards the source before stopping. I didn't knew the grade of the dungeon. I didn't knew the monster type. I didn't knew how many monsters there were. My home wasn't even close to here. If I just turned back and ran, break would probably be stopped by others. So my family wouldn't get hurt. I had no reason to go kill myself with this much unknowns. Also, Edward would be here just in a moment. I sighed.

"No. That is not what I am."

I took off running.
