Closer I came towards the source, more I sweated. I could now feel the mana crashing against my body.
"This is extra super bad."
Since I was a Gifted I could withstand it. But for normal people, this much mana could easily sick. Which would make evacuating them to safety way harder.
"Roar!"
This noise. This fucking noise!
"Werewolf!"
Every cell in my body felt like it was suddenly in flames.
"Go and kill it."
It screamed to me. I didn't know if it was vampire blood in my veins or human memories.
"Calm down. If it is him, I can't win."
6 years of battle experience held me to my logic. I stood there, listening for more roars.
"Roar!"
"Roar!"
They came from different sources. There were more than one werewolf.
"Turned?"
I asked to myself. Their voice was more similar to two werewolves I fought than Wolfgang. If it was true, I could fight them. My hand went to my bow.
"Fuck!"
Since I only used sword to spar with Edward, I left my bow and arrow at home. I only carried some knives. Without the weapon I had most experience with, my confidence went down.
"You don't need to fight. You can just go home."
A voice whispered to me. For a second of weakness, I actually considered it. That was until I heard someone screaming.
"Help! Please!"
I bolted towards the screams. My vision reached to voice before my body. Two werewolves. They were trying to break down a door. I saw the people at other side trying to block the door with furniture. It wasn't going to hold them off for long. Before that I had one werewolf blocking my way. It looked different. Seeing me, it roared. It was smaller than other werewolves I seen before. Slightly shorter than me. It also looked even uglier. It looked as if it didn't fully transformed. I pulled my sword while running towards it. It also rushed, on all four. Weird, I thought.
"Full focus."
My vision narrowed. I could only see around 20 meters now. I still could see 360 degrees. For narrowing my vision, everything looked more detailed. I could see every imperfection on the road I walked. Every step people took one it before. I could also see my enemy. Muscles, bones, internal organs, veins, blood, brain. I quickly focused my attention on weakest part of its fur. By reading its movements, I countered its claw slash. I struck my sword to its neck. With one strike, I was able decapitate it. Its body fell to ground.
"Weaker."
I took of running again. I didn't had time to inspect the corpse. One second too late and a family could be snuffed out. Outer door of the building was already broken down. I widened my view.
"Shit."
I said not only because of pain from overusing Hawkeye returned but also because the door was broken down. Only thing between civilians and bloodthirsty monsters were some cheap, wooden furniture. Civilians weren't at door. Probably they hid at inner rooms. Good thing they were at least that smart. Jumping 3 steps at once, I faced against them. One sniffed the air and turned towards me. Opening its jaws, it roared towards me.
"Son of a bitch!"
It thought it could scare me. I felt my fangs growing in my mouth. I also opened my mouth.
"Come on!"
It leaped towards me. I clashed with it and we both fell down from stairs. Due my parkour experience I was the first one to get up. Before I could swing my sword, other one also joined . While I saw him at my back, my body was already tired due my all night long spar. I threw myself, rolling down from more stairs. I still got cut.
"It wasn't so deep."
I could see the wound on my back. While it was deep enough to draw blood, it wouldn't hinder me.
"Come on!"
Again narrowing my view. Block. Create angles with footwork. Parry and counter. I cut down one. Other looked suprised. I stabbed my sword between its ribs. Since I had the inner view, I could easily target the openings. Piercing its heart, I also cut its head. Just in case if it decides to regenerate. Making sure that I finished them off, I climbed stairs, again. I got inside the home werewolves were trying to break in.
"I am a hunter. Monsters are dead. But you are not safe here. Come with me."
Two adults came out. They carried two children. Male had a kitchen knife in his hand.
"Thank you. Oh, thank you."
Their voice were shaky.
"You are not safe here. You should take refugee at your neighbours."
I guided them to their neighbours.
"Lock the doors. Barricade all the openings. Do you have guns?"
They shook their heads.
"Okay. Just stay here. If you have other neighbours numbers, tell them to do same thing."
I turned around to leave.
"You are wounded."
One of the children gasped. I looked back and smiled.
"It is okay. Just a scratch. Listen your parents."
I left the building. Just outside waited 5 werewolves. I took my stance.
"Over my dead body."
As I swung my sword, I thought to myself. What did being a hunter meant? What did my life meant? I nearly avoided losing my eye. We were taught in the school. We were told by media.
"Honorful, selfless and brave warriors."
What a load of bullshit. I elbowed the one trying to bite my arm. While doing that one got my leg. I screamed as I pulled a knife and stabbed it in the eye. It stopped biting me.
"One down."
I gasped for air. Still 4 to go. That was what people thought of us. That's how Father thought of me.
"We are not that."
3 to go. I was afraid. I was tired. None of us wanted to go and fight. Do you know what is like fighting for your life? It is scary. 2 to go. It is painful. It is uncertain.
"Fucking shit!"
1 to go. Shitty thing right now was the fact that I killed last one by stabbing it in throat. While it died, my sword was stuck on it.
"And I still have you."
