When I heard that I was going to be a brother again, I felt nothing. It was 1 year ago, when I was 17. I already had Nur as a little sister. I thought that I already knew what having a little sibling felt like. I still remember the day she was born. I had to clear a dungeon with others that day. It wasn't a problematic dungeon. We had little wounded. They were nothing but minor scratches. When I finally arrived at the hospital Mother was in tired both physically and mentally. Truth to be told, I didn't wanted to go. I wouldn't had gone if Father didn't conviced me. It is cold, I know. When I stepped into the room they were in, she was awake. When my eyes met, I felt something inside me melt. She probably had no idea who I was or if I even existed since it's been only a day since she was born. I couldn't do anything except look at her until Mother handed her to me. I was so anxious grabbing her. She was so light. So weak. I was afraid of grabbing her too tightly. Too wrong. Too relaxed that my grip would fail and she would fell. Just in ten seconds of holding her, I was covered with cold sweat. Tears rolled down my cheeks. This little thing, that came to this world just this morning carried so much important to me that I felt that I would fight entire world for her. Even now, she was a little bit older and bigger, I still felt the same.
"Agh!"
I was snapped back to reality when I heard Mother scream. Zehra also opened her eyes and started to cry.
"Make some noise at least! I nearly had a heart attack!"
"Sorry about that."
I said as I grabbed Zehra, hushing her.
"Are you hungry? Should I-"
I handed her Zehra.
"I can prepare things. You look after your daughter."
After eating breakfast, I had nothing else to do until my spar with Edward. While I could practice how I used my Hawkeye, I had more important things to do. I had to see a certain motherfucker. Well, two motherfuckers, to be exact. To do that I first need to arrive at Military School.
"Yo, Burak! Are you okay man?"
Guard at the gate knew me. He was a B ranked hunter. While someone like him could easily get into a guild and be famous, he had a disability. Three years before this he got into a dungeon. It turned out to be "Super" dungeon. He lost his dominant arm, which was right in that dungeon. Due that he worked as a guard and teacher at here. He wasn't my instructor but I knew him. Nearly everyone knew. He was something like a cautionary tale. "It is unkown what would life bring to a hunter.", "Never think you are invincible." Things like that. Seeing him like that made me move my hand to my wounded eye.
"I heard what happened. I am sorry."
From one veteran to another, I guess.
"Thanks, do you know if Principal inside the main building?"
He seemed confused. Then his face became angry.
"Did he called to give another mission? That bastard!"
"No. I just need to punch some people in the face."
"What happened?"
"Volkan was our leader that raid. But he left us with that fucking monster. He ran away without even looking back at us!"
"What? Wait, that is not the report he gave!"
My eye widened. He already gave his report? No, he was never someone that would gave reports this early. Also he would be at least taken into custody. Growing Gift or rich family. He still would be taken to... That son of a bitch!
"He gave a false report to save himself!"
That was why I came here! I wanted to give my report, so he would be punished! Yet, he gave his early to make himself look innocent.
"I have to go."
He sighed.
"Okay, you didn't said anything to me. I also didn't said to you that Principal is on 5th training field."
I nodded.
"Thanks."
I walked fast. While it was called a "School", this place was more like a training camp for soldiers. A military base filled to brim with children. I passed rookies running, shooting, sparring. While most looked at me, none tried to came near me. Except one, that's it.
"Captain!"
A female voice. I roughly remembered her.
"Ayla."
I stopped. She was covered with sweat. Probably was training very hard. Good for her. She opened her mouth and spoke loudly.
"I will be working very hard, Sir! Next time I hope to be on your side until the end!"
While her tone was an energitic one, her face told me something else. I made a fist. Lifting it in air, I bonked her in the head.
"Don't beat yourself. I am not going to say that wasn't your fault."
I saw her mood worsen.
"I know. I am sorr-Ugh!"
I bonked her in the head once again.
"Don't interrupt your superiors, rookie!"
Since my strength increased, I put more force than I intended. Yet, she seemed fine.
"Only reason I am not going to say it is because hearing it will make you feel worse. Because you believe that. Me saying that you had no fault will make you feel worse, as if I am trying to console you."
I sighed. I also blamed myself too. Who wouldn't? Maybe Volkan.
"I don't know what would make you feel better. If I knew how to do it, I would do for myself. All I know is people don't die because they feel pain. Because they lost others. Because they feel guilty. We are still alive. Do you know what that means?"
"I don't know, Sir!"
"We have to live."
Her face looked stupid due my stupid answer. I smirked.
"When you die, you don't have to do anything. But if you are alive, you still have things to do."
I scratched my head.
"I don't know where I was going before. Sigh, I never was good at giving speechs."
"I understand, Sir. Since we are alive we still can do things. We can change ourselves or other things."
