The many people who lived in the black space outside of Katra were referred to as the Starters. People never understood what or how they are. All they know is that they are the creators, the embodiment of perfectness. They created their planet, life, and death itself. Vivid imagination roamed in the world of the Starters, imagination to open new branches of science, math, and architecture. People who can understand a speck of what the Starters knew, were called "Enlightened."
"Please stop!" Dedry shouted. His breathing gets more and more disorganized as the people behind him start getting closer and closer.
"You better run 'stick'! Me and the boys can be harsh to those who aren't fast enough if you know what I mean." a young man says. He starts to crack his knuckles in order to scare the poor man on the floor with several bruises. The 2 people on each side behind him start doing the same thing.
"But, you have access to a low-grade bodysuit! How can I run away fast enough?" Dedry asks not hoping for a response but for a chance for him to scurry off. He starts standing up while trying to move back from the people getting closer.
"I'll give you a ten-second head start. 1..2..3.." the bully states. He tilts his head with every number said as if mocking Dedry. He starts getting into the position of a crouch start of an athletic sprinter. Dedry had started running as soon as he heard the bully say one. His breath was disorganized and his legs were sore so he tripped and fell every two seconds. It even took two seconds for him to even get back up. The best he could do at the end of the time was get a few feet ahead of the bully.
"...10! Here I come boy!" the bully states with a wide smile on his face almost reaching his eyes. He knows that the boy couldn't have gone too far. The mobility he had was above average but with his low-level bodysuit, it wouldn't even take 3 seconds for him to reach where Dredly is in this open field. He spots him and then lighting starts crackling at his feet comparable to hundreds of lightning storms put together and he starts sprinting. The 2 extras behind him stay still as they know what's going to happen without even looking at it. Dedry could faintly hear the steps of the boy behind him as the suit blocked off most of the sound emitted from the grass on their feet. Dedry looks back and doesn't see anyone. He feels relieved as if he was able to escape.
"Yes! Yes!" thought Dedry. He started to slightly hop in the air in excitement thinking he was finally able to escape the poor excuse of a person called Angel. He starts turning his head back when it suddenly gets caught in the grasp of a rough hand. The arm picks him up and throws him a few meters. He's flung in the air, his limbs flailing as he starts to go towards the ground. He hits the ground with a big thud and starts rolling away. He puts both his hands on the ground and starts getting back up with haste. Before he can get his head fully up, he gets stepped on and his head is now in the dirt barely able to breathe.
"Man, you are pathetic. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw you keep tripping and falling. Like seriously, do you like getting played with? It does seem like it!" Angel exclaimed laughing maniacally. The 2 other kids start walking towards Angel although on the opposite side of him. "Alright guys, lift him up and let me have my fun with him," Angel commanded the other kids. They nodded and picked Dredly up, each of his arms interlocked with one of the two people's arms.
"You're not going to get away with this Angel. You pathetic excuse for space. I bet your mom doesn't love you. Just give me the money right now." Dedry scoffed, seeming nonchalant outside but is panicking from what his body said.
"A poor kid will always be poor no matter what," Angel replied at the lame insults thrown at him. He also seemed nonchalant outside but was fuming inside. All that Dedry said was true.
Angel was born to a middle-class family. His family didn't struggle in the financial aspect of things as they were the descendants of 3rd Gen Enlightened called "The Advancement Generation." They were the first to let their knowledge accessible to the public so humanity as a whole started flourishing. World Hunger has decreased significantly and the need for power in most states has become almost extinct. Angels Family was the descendants of one of the many people so they lived in the high society until 4 generations ago.
Angel's great-great grandfather asked the family head to be able to come into the main family, stating that his son is perfect for his daughter. The family head's daughter felt repulsed as soon as she heard this request and demanded that they be put in their place. The branch family was plucked off from the main tree and was left to fall and die. The only reason they were able to stay as a middle-class family for so long was that the foolish man had a successful company that was involved in many business firms and other companies. As the generations passed, the companies would be passed on to the person seen as most suitable. Every heir lived intending to bring the branch family to its prime.
But how does this correlate to Angel's mother, you ask? Angel's father was the current CEO of "Jameson and Burns Firm" the company passed down from past generations. He soon married a woman named Amanda. They seemed to fit each other like a missing piece in a puzzle. They conceived two children, one named Christopher and the other Angel. Christopher was a mother's boy and by no means did she reject his love. Angel, on the other hand, relied on his father for most, his mother always being the second choice. Yet, his mother still gave him the love that she gave to Christopher. His father analyzed his behavior for the past few years and saw him fit for the job of CEO of the company. He possessed great leadership, charisma, and the ability to make great financial decisions that would benefit them in the future. His mother heard the news and her attitude towards Angel took 360.
She always thought that Christopher would inherit the position and so she invested in him. Spending money from her pockets, she made him go to the elitist of schools and cultivated him into the image she thought the perfect son was. The reason why money never came out of her husband's pocket was that he believed that every family member over the age of 21 should be able to supply all their needs with minimal help from his own money or position of power. Seeing as she wanted to help only one of the two sons they had, he said that all money that was invested into him should come from her. After spending all this money on her son, she was down by two-thirds of her net worth, believing that the son she put all this effort into would pay off. Yet, her tries never influenced the decision of the position and Angel sat highly above on the throne of a prince, ready to inherit the throne.
She stopped hating Angel and started to worship him. She wanted to live a good life after she was going to retire and not be put into a retirement home. Angel saw through these efforts of deceit but still acted as if he was naive enough to fall for her acting. He knew secretly inside her heart that she still hated him no matter what but still knew she could be an important asset in the future.
Back in the park, Angel is punching a defenseless Dredly, his body bruised and bloody from all the beating he had taken from Angel.
"Alright, let him go. We need him to fully recover tomorrow," demanded Angel. The almost lifeless Dredy rag-dolled to the ground and stayed there. The 3 kids left to the exit of the field. Dedry silently got up after a few minutes and walked to his house. After a few minutes of walking, he reached a beaten-up shack. He barely had enough strength to open the door. Inside there was barely any furniture, only a table with one chair, a bunker light, a hospital-looking bed, and a makeshift toilet. He walked towards the far left corner of the big room and tried to reach the bed. But, before he could he collapsed on the floor and was unconscious.
