I sat in the car with a dull face.
"Aren't you going to say anything to me?" Lucas said in a disappointed tone. "Why are you being so indifferent?"
"Am I being indifferent?" I complained as I looked outside of the car. There was nothing to ask. We have been sitting below my apartment for nearly 10 minutes but none of us have spoken any words.
I had no intention to talk with Lucas. What was I supposed to say? Why did you do that? You didn't have any other option? What is wrong with you? You should have said no to my mother.
I rolled my eyes as I folded my hands, leaning back on the chair. A notification popped up suddenly as I looked at the phone.
[Jane - Did you reach?]
[Andrew- Did you reach home? You should have, right?]
Why were they both sending me the same thing? I sighed as I moved my fingers to reply.
[Rose- Yes, I reached]
Jane replied instantly [Jane- Okay, you sleep on time. We will talk tomorrow.]
I replied positively with an emoji. We really need to talk tomorrow. It made no sense to me to wait any longer. I wanted to know how they both knew each other.
Was Jane good to me because Lucas had asked her too? As I started to think about it, I realized that it might be true. If I really think it through then it makes sense. After all, JAne's boyfriend is Lucas' cousin.
I turned around as I saw my best friend who was a little crazy in the head. "Lucas, you know Jane?"
"Yes," Lucas replied plainly without much of an explanation. How could I forget that the man does not reply to me until he feels like I am worthy of it. I nodded my head. I knew it was useless to think about it anyways.
"Your mother asked my family to be for lunch on the 14th," Lucas said in a soft tone. I don't know what reaction he was expecting but I did not want to give him any.
"Yes, she told me," I said dryly. I wanted to send the words across that I was not interested in the conversation. "You should have denied."
"Why would I?" Lucas laughed, "She said you were bringing your boyfriend. Or are you planning on not introducing him to me?"
I was silent as I did not say anything. I knew that my words would be turned around anyways. Lucas looked in a playful condition as he looked at me.
"Or are you planning on bringing someone else as your pretend boyfriend like last time? I have told you a hundred times to not do anything stupid. Aunty is worried about you. And even if you wanted someone to pretend why don't you consider me?"
I rolled my eyes. Was Lucas pretending to not know? It was evident that my mother wanted us both to date. According to my mother, Lucas was a very nice, caring, understanding man. And for the most part, he was. But I did not have feelings for him.
If I bought Lucas as my boyfriend, my mother would start preparing for a wedding right away. I never understood what made her worried so much. I had even asked her this question, and she said that when I have a real boyfriend. Someone who I truly love and someone who could protect me throughout my life, she will let me know.
I shook my head. Something was bothering my mother which she refused to share. I looked at Lucas as I said, "Refuse her Lucas."
"No." Lucas' voice was full of authority. "I want to meet your boyfriend. Should I be aware of the man you love? After all, as your best friend, I have this right."
I wanted to laugh at his words. It was then that I realized that I haven't replied to the message.
[Rosabel- I reached.]
Before I could lock my phone a reply came, [Andrew- Are you inside your house?]
Why is he asking so many questions? I was confused. It had nothing to do with him.
"What are you doing?" Lucas asked in annoyance. He leaned over to see but I moved my phone a little further towards me blocking its screen.
"We have a large event tomorrow. It's related to it. Anyways, how long are you staying here?" I asked Lucas to distract him.
[Andrew- What is taking you so long to reply?]
The message was odd. Why should it matter to him how long I take to reply? I was not someone reporting to him.
[Rosabel- Yes, I am home.]
[Andrew- Is that car your home now?]
My eyes widened as I read it. Why was Andrew saying such a thing? How did he know I was in the car? I looked outside to realize a man was standing near the apartment's entrance with an angry gaze. I swallowed hard as I looked at him.
There was no bright light there, but I could see that he was Andrew. I was sure of it. He moved inside the building looking down on his phone as a message popped in mine.
[Andrew- I think we need to set some rules and not lying should be the one. I am waiting in front of your door, so don't be late.]
I cursed in my heart. I looked at the man who was observing me. "Lucas, I was given some last minute correction, so I will get going. You travel safely."
I said as I rushed out of the door, giving Lucas one last gaze. I did not care what he thought anymore. I knew that I was going to get an earful soon which annoyed me.
Before entering the building, I turned back as I waved at Lucas. I did not want him to misunderstand me.
I could see that Lucas did not reply for a second before waving back, but the car did not leave. I knew there was no point in waiting as I turned back and entered the building.
