Chapter 25 - In sync

I walked near my apartment's door.

The first thing I saw was the tired face of Andrew. He might have worked really hard. But why did he come here? He said he would not come at this time. Wasn't he busy?

I looked at Andrew who rested his back on the wall near the door as he folded his hand. Although his eyes were not closed, he looked almost sleepy.

"Took you too long?" Andrew's voice was low but dangerous as I took the keys out of my purse.

"I was busy," I said in a soft tone, ignoring Andrew. The man said he was too busy but he suddenly showed up. How was I supposed to entertain him?

"Busy?" Andrew laughed as if he had heard something funny. "I could see that. As your boyfriend, should I know who my girlfriend spends her time with?"

I opened the door as I walked in. I kept my purse on the table as I walked inside the kitchen. I could hear Andrew entering and closing the door. "Of course, a boyfriend has a right to ask such a question. He should know who his girlfriend spends her time with." I filled two cups of glass with water as I offered one to Andrew who was standing in the kitchen observing me. "But a fake boyfriend does not have that right."

I could feel the air pressure coming down. Andrew accepted the glass as he drank the water slowly but his gaze never left time.

I ignored the man. There was no need to provide him any more importance. He was an uninvited guest after all.

"Do you have dinner?" I asked as I opened the refrigerator to see what else I have there. "Or should I fix something up really quick?"

"No need," Andrew said as he held the refrigerator's door. I was held captive in between Andrew and the refrigerator.

I could feel Andrew's breath near me. "I will make something. You go freshen up."

My body stiffened as I heard Andrew's voice near me. He was too close than before. I looked around as I saw a way out. I ran out as I nodded my head. I could feel my body heating up.

"Do whatever you feel like," I said softly as I shut the door tightly. I could hear a peal of soft laughter from outside as I shook my head. I was thinking weird things.

When I came out of the room I saw Andrew working in the kitchen. He was working there in the morning as well and the man was even here at night.

"Why did you come?" I asked as I looked at Andrew taking the spoon out of his hand. I indicated to him to sit as I took over the work. I could not let him work in my house like that. After all, we were not that close yet and Andrew had already made me breakfast.

"I was done with my work and you weren't responding to my texts." It felt like Andrew wanted to say something more but there was only silence. I looked up at the man who was staring at me as if accusing me. "Who knew that you were here with an unknown man? I thought you were with your friend, Jane?"

I smiled as I concentrated on making the food. "He is not an unknown man. He is my best friend Lucas. And it was only today that he heard he is also Jane's boyfriend's cousin. Isn't it insane? I had no idea."

I could sense Andrew's body stiffen. It felt like he was a little shocked but when I saw him, I could see that he looked normal.

"His cousin… Lucas.." Andrew said in a whisper. At this point, I doubted my ears. Who knew if the words were actually said or it was my illusion.

There was only silence in the house as none of us spoke. It felt like Andrew was still busy as he was continuously working on his phone. He would go into the living room to attend some calls and come back inside again.

It was not simple to have the life of the secretary. I really respected how hard Andrew was working.

As the dishes finished cooking, I moved them outside one by one. Even though Andrew was talking on the phone using Bluetooth he helped me with the dishes. As soon as he saw me walking outside with anything in my hand he would rush and take it from my hands and place it on the table.

Our system was like a line machine. In sync.

I waited patiently as I waited for Andrew to finish his call. Although I did not know what was going on I could hear a little of it. And what I heard was still not understood. Until something caught my ears.

"So was he the reason you told me to stay away from her ...."
