Chapter 1 - A Spring Break to Remember

This vacation to Hawaii was very much needed. I decided to treat myself, after all it is my last year of college. I landed at the airport around five, and got to my hotel, unpacked in about an hour.

First thing to do? Go to the beach, of course! Who cares if there is only like half an hour till sunset, it's the beach! I might as well test the water and swim for a bit, as well.

Ah, the sand under your feet and the relaxing breeze, is there anything better? I slowly make my way towards the incoming waves, what a perfect place! Enough wading, time to dive in.

Crystal clear water, and numerous colorful fish. Oh! There is a reef, I definitely want to check that out. There goes a Parrot fish, then a Tang, and a school of Moorish, how cool! Woah, even a lionfish!

Rising back to the surface, I turn to face back towards the beach. Well, would you look at that pristine beach, such a picturesque scene. Barely any people around to ruin it. Oh, I can even see my hotel back there.

Huh, what is that lady doing? She is like flailing her arms around like a crazy person. *Squinting* It looks like she is gesturing something? *Looking around* I'm the only even out here, so who is she waving at?

Hmm, what is that? There is something sticking out of the water. It looks like some kind of fin? SHIT! Is that a shark fin!?!

I swam like my life depended on it! Furiously splashing up a storm, I hastily made my way back towards the beach. Glancing back, my spazzed swimming definitely aided the shark in finding me.

Similar to a torpedo, well a torpedo with razor sharp teeth and soulless black eyes, was now feverously coming right towards me. Fuck! Am I going to die today?!?

The dreadful sight of a monster two and a half times my size, re-invigorated my will to live! Renewed strength coursed through my arms and legs, as I booked it back towards the shore.

Alas, that was not enough, I could feel the impending doom behind me. How unfair! Salvation lies just ahead, a measly 20 feet! Looking back, the soulless monster is right there.

Mouth agape and a countless number of white glistening teeth is all I can see. Barely 5 feet away from me now, no chance of making the distance to shore.

I AM SO DEAD!!! There is NO Hope! Just as I was going to fall into the pits of despair and regret, I see a grey flash out the corner of my eye. And more quickly follow it.

Slam! Slam! Slam!

Three of the indistinguishable blurs smash into the shark, knocking it off course. The shark was suddenly veered away from my body, barely missing me in its abyssal jaws.

Not wasting this opportunity, I finish swimming to shore. Going 10 feet past the wave line, I fall face first into the sand. Sand even got into my mouth, but HECK IF I CARE! It was gloriously dry land!

My heart was still beating a million miles per hour trying to break out of my chest (at least I assume it was). Forcing myself to lift out of the sand, I glance back towards my would-be devourer.

Breaching the water's surface, I see the shark's fin and 5 more?!? Was I saved by another group of sharks?? Running over to me the crazy lady arrived at my side.

"Hey! Are you okay? That group of dolphins totally saved you!" the lady said. "Dolphins?" I barely got out, while wheezing. "Yeah totally, I have heard of dolphins ganging up on sharks, but this is crazy!" she said.

Woah, was I really saved by dolphins? Well thank you very much! I thought. "Well anyway, at least you appear alright. Need me to take you to a hospital?" she said. "Huh oh yeah, no I think I'm good" I said, still breathing heavily.

"Ah I see, totally. Well get some rest, you deserve it" she stated, while walking off. Huff, lord I am glad that ordeal is over, sitting down on the sand. Looking back towards the ocean, I see the dolphins leaving going parallel down the shoreline.

Catching my breath, I sit there calmly looking out towards the sea. Wow, today sure was something, I thought, still slightly exasperated.

As I sat there, the sun slowly started to sink below the horizon. A myriad of colors painted the sky purple, pink, reds, and oranges. Now that is a sight, I'm glad to see.

To think that just a few minutes ago I was swimming for my life, from a fearsome creature of the depths. As I watch the sunset, I can't help but to think how lucky I was to survive.

*guuurgle* Well, that's enough sitting around, seems like swimming for one's life really make you hungry. Standing up, I walk over to my stuff. Putting on my shirt and picking up my wallet, I start heading towards someplace to get a bite to eat.

Getting more in the city area, I still can't seem to find a restaurant yet, just hotels and condos. Hmm, let's take a short cut through this alley, I bet there are some on the next street over.

Halfway through, just as I was about to pass a dumpster, a shadow jumped out in front of me. I was slightly taken aback, as I jerked backwards a bit.

The shadow (who was actually a man in a dark hoody) said, "Give me all your money! NOW!" Pointing a knife at me.

A Mugging!! What kind of bullshit has today been! "Hey man, I don't ha-" But I was quickly cut off by the man shoving the knife towards me. My body was so sluggish from exhaustion that I couldn't move out of the way.

The knife plunged into my stomach, causing me to scream in pain, "Argh!!!" as a clutched my stomach. I could no longer hold myself up falling back towards the ground.

Bam!

My vison becoming blurry, as I let out a barely audible groan. I can feel the man rummaging through my pockets. Finding my wallet, he quickly bolts away.

Feeling the warm flowing liquid run down my hands, my senses begin to fade. I begin cursing my luck!

Slowly, my mind begins to fade into darkness.
