Chapter 6 - Roaming Skeleton

I say that, but I can barely step forward without my foot falling off. After a slightly embarrassing amount of time, I think I've got the hang of it.

I have to constantly devote a minute amount of my willpower to keep all of my extremities intact. It is similar to how levitate is controlled, but more focused on keeping together rather than moving.

My best guess is that I inherently know how my body feels. Which makes sense since I have known it for my whole life. Thus, I project my body (from when I was alive) in my ghost form, and therefore I had good control right from the beginning.

Slowly, I start making my way through the corridor. The sound is still a bit unnerving, all the clacking of bones on each other and on the stone floor.

Eventually, I come to a crossroads and not knowing where to go I just pick a random direction. The more I look around and observe my surroundings the more I feel like this is definitely underground.

There are no windows, and the hallways are moist enough to support the growth of moss. Oh! Actually, that confirms it, as I round the corner, a part of the wall is caved in.

Past the stone blocks there is nothing but soil and dirt. Hmm. . . if I can phase through solid walls then I can easily get out of here! I would just have to head upwards.

My assumption is that I have to level up more, or perhaps increase my spiritual power.

Speaking of leveling up. . . *clack clack clack* there appears to be another skeleton just ahead.

Yep, around another corner is a skeleton. All vulnerable and alone.

Loosing my calm and collected reasoning I charge forward to meet my prey! I do say that, but instead of a change it is more similar to a shamble.

On top of that, all of the mental energy required to maintain my speed is quickly dissolving.

. . .

Okay, I might have exaggerated my ability to control this body.

My (amazing) charge only got me about 7 feet of distance. . . Until too many bones started to fall from my body.

And yes, for those asking, it did indeed take me a few hours to make it this far (probably 7 but definitely no more than 11 that's for sure).

It is quite the accomplishment, if I do say so myself, there has been 2 corners and a hallway. When you are made of bones, it is quite the feat.

Speaking of feet, I better pick mine up. Calming down a bit I begin to reevaluate the situation.

The skeleton still has not noticed my presence. Yet I should probably play it safer, and test a few things. . .

A few minutes later I recover, and slowly move towards my target. I want to be able to fall back in case it is immediately aggressive towards me.

Once I reach about 20 feet from the roaming skeleton it definitely noticed me. Its empty eye sockets become directed towards me.

Swiftly, I stop all of my movement and just watch it. The starring contest lasts less than a minute, until the skeleton seems to get bored of me.

Hmm? Maybe if I move agin it will turn towards me again. I gradually make my way closer to it.

After a while I make it five or so feet from it, but nothing changes. Seeing that it doesn't care for me I approach until I am right next to it.

This dude doesn't even care if I am shoulder to shoulder with him. I even start waiving my hand in front of his eyes (or at least where the eyes are supposed to be).

But nope, still no reaction. Hmm, perhaps it is because I am in a skeleton's body? It also could be because I am an undead myself or because I am in one.

Well I might as well take advantage of it. Scrutinizing the roaming skeleton, it seems quite similar to the one I am currently possessing.

Mostly just bones with bits of skin attached. Mostly similar 'clothing' or rather dirty rags that barely cover anything.

Looking closely at the bones, they are quite old. Actually old is being generous, they look weathered and ancient. Small cracks are even snaking their way through some of them.

Probably brittle enough that a few taps could cause them to fracture and crumble. Heck even a small breeze could probably do the job.

The one I am possessing is not faring much better either. Done observing, I conclude my best option is to land a strong sneak attack while I can.

I suppose going for the head is my best option. Lining up, I prepare a knuckle sandwich to the face.

*Smack* *Crack*

The skeleton is knocked down to the floor.

Hmm not to bad, I guess these skeletons are still quite weak. Although it does appear that I have lost a hand.

Apart from the ulna and radius and some carpals in my wrist, there isn't much left. Honestly, I am quite glad that I am in a skeleton. No nerves to feel any pain, otherwise loosing a hand would have hurt a crazy lot.

Although. . . I don't seem to have got any experience points? Are the skeletons weaker than those gross unspeakable creatures?

No that can't be right, I had to level up to even be able to possess one.

Having a sudden epiphany, I am released from my thoughts. Unfortunately, I was a bit too late.

A skeletal claw slams into my chest. Fortunately, I had come out of my stupor in time.

However, about half of my right rib cage is gone. Dammit, I assumed he was dead.

Looking at my enemy, I notice that a good chuck of the skull is missing.

The skeleton tries to claw at me again, but this time I am ready. I move enough for the hit to land on my shoulder. I counter with my intact hand, and shove the skeleton back to the ground.

Using my foot I repeatedly smash his skull until it shatters.
