Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

Jessica's POV

During dinner, I still couldn't shake off the anxious feeling and I didn't pay attention to what Damon and Kate talked about. I sat next to Fiona and nibbled on my food. I would say the chef is the best cook in the world and I've liked all of the food so far but I couldn't find the excitement to enjoy it tonight.

"Jess, can I have a word with you after the meal?" I looked up at Damon who was already done with his food and stared at me. I nodded my head, shook off the dreadful fear and started to enjoy the food. Lasagna was the dinner for today and it's the best one I've ever had.

As Damon asked, I walked towards his office after I parted ways with Fiona and Kate. I was contemplating whether to tell him that I've met Luciano or not as I made my way towards his study.

"Please take a seat." he pointed at the leather chair infront of him and I made myself comfortable on the comfy chair.

"Whatever has happened in the past few days might have been hard for you to take in but I am thankful that you aren't making things difficult for either of us. I don't mean any offense and since I am the closest relatives to you in this world, it's my responsibility to take care of you." He clapped his hands and the door opened. I spun my chair and there stood a tall and muscular blond with amber eyes. He closed the door and made his way towards Damon's desk.

He was very handsome and his muscles which barely fitted onto his shirt added more to his attractiveness. I watched him move as he stood next to the chair, I was sitting in.

"Even though your identity hasn't been made official yet, there are some people out there who knows that you're the heir to Italian mafia. So, I am going to assign you a bodyguard and he will be with you 24/7. Jessica, he will be your bodyguard from now on. Harry Larington." I stood up and turned towards him. I could tell he was tall but when I stood up, I felt like I was standing next to a damn statue.

"Hello. I am Jessica Sc- Knight." I stuck out my hands and he held it in his firm grip. He shook it and I was surprised at how muscular and strong he was. Just a simple handshake could have left a bruise on my hand if he exerted a bit more force. "Harry Larington."

Harry soon left after Damon waved his hand to dismiss him. So, I was yet again, left alone with my uncle.

"He is the best one I can get for you. There are a lot of choices of men, women, young, old and gays even but I thought it would have been for the best if I chose someone who was around your age." "Is he gay?" I asked him as it reminded me of Shane. I wonder how he is doing.

"No. I thought you guys might have way too much fun if I assigned you a girl or a gay." he shrugged and I laughed out loud.

"Aren't you scared that I might actually seduce him to have my freedom?" I asked him with a smug face and he rolled his eyes.

"You can try. I am sure it won't work. He has found his soulmate already. You're no match for him." he scoffed with a smirk and I frowned a bit.

"Is that supposed to be an insult?" "That surely wasn't a compliment, was it?" He scratched his chin and I rolled my eyes.

"Ok, enough joking around. Let's get to business. You have met the bodyguard. Check." He said as he looked down at something on his desk and the curiosity getting the best of me, I stood up and leaned over to see what else was on the list. I tried to read them but I couldn't understand a single thing and huffed out in annoyance when I realized it was written in Italian.

"You have bought the things you need, right?" He asked, his head still looking down at the piece of paper he was holding and I nodded my head.

"Yeah, more than what is necessary." "Check."

"Are you getting used to the new life here in Italy?" I felt like I was being interviewed or something and I resisted spitting out a sarcastic comment.

"Yes, very well." "Check." he mumbled the last part and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes yet again. He is making me roll my eyes way too often. Well, it got to be good eye exercise, right? Or is it going to leave wrinkles instead?

"Is the food upto your standard and taste?" "Yes, they are very delicious. Probably one of the few things I like here."

I swear to God, if he asks me one more question, I am gonna throw a little tantrum at him. He isn't treating me like an uncle is supposed to. I feel like a prisoner who is interrogated before getting the lifetime sentence.

Well, maybe I am exaggerating a bit.

"How is your-" "Damon!" I almost yelled and it made him snap his eyes at me.

"What are you doing?" "I am trying to see if there are some amends, I have to make. Sorry, I just didn't know how to know if you liked your stay here." He looked a bit guilty and I smiled.

"I am lucky to have such a sweet uncle. But no worries. I am fine with everything here. In all honesty, everything is perfect so you don't have to worry." I patted the back of his hand that was on the desk for reassurance.

"Ok. Then into real business now." I raised my hand before he could continue.

"No more interrogation, ok?" He chuckled and nodded, making me slouch back to the leather chair.

"Sure, discussion it is. You will be taken to look around the headquarters of the empire tomorrow with Harry and you will learn briefly about how things work in the world of mafias. And after that, you can make a decision to either stay here and take over the throne, be the donna or train for a few years till you think you are ready to take over and lead the mafia. The choice is upto you and no one is going to force you."

As he said it, there was a long silence and I pondered about the pros and cons. What would be the best decision for me to be a better leader? Taking over the throne and having the heavy ass responsibility after just roaming around a building for a day and having to deal with work stress? I can't imagine how boring and complicated my life would be without any preparation, like training for instance. It would be best if I train and build some muscles at least before I take over.

That would be for the best, right? It always seemed cool to me whenever a girl could fight or got to work as a secret agent. I might not be able to reach that level but at least getting close to them sounds just as fantastic. Besides, learning a few skills to defend and protect myself will come in handy right? I think I should go with the training first no matter what.

After telling Damon about my decision, he didn't object and told me that he would get the training ready in a week.
