It was unusual for anyone to ask him anything about his sister. That's how she loved; she didn't want anyone poking their fingers into her life.
Okay, his and hers.
Jordan knew even if she had never asked him, he always kept that in mind. Never answer any intrusive question, it was an unsaid agreement. He remembered when they had moved to town, and into the Oceans Pack.
They were in a small town and even if he had begun to like it he didn't want to tell his sister they hadn't been stayed there for long anyway. They were always on the move, to Jordan it was really surprising that they were still staying at the Oceans Pack pack house.
While growing up, he never questioned his sister about anything. It was the two of them, and Jordan saw how her sister was overprotective of him and so he learned not to ask so many questions.
Arrive home on time.
Take a shower.
Do homework.
Draw. Eat. Talk to his sister. Sleep.
Be a good brother.
But swimming was the one thing Jordan swore he wasn't going to stop, he had never pushed or asked anything from her sister. For the first time in his life, he was going to do what he wanted. He was going to turn deaf ears to her sister's screams.
"Breaking only one rule wasn't that bad anyway." He thought to himself, he was going to swim and nothing was going to change that. He preferred swimming over any other game in school.
He knew a little about their parents, the topic wasn't her sister's favorite talk. She would only talk to her once in a while with the aim of Jordan not forgetting where he came from and what kind of family he used to have, and as Jordan listened to the stories, he found it hard to believe that out of all Pack, Gal choose Oceans Pack.
He knew that her mother was the alpha of Ryder Pack, and she adored their father, nothing more.
Jordan had taken an instant liking at coach Sheryl as soon as they met, but sitting in the car he found himself thinking of why the coach was asking about her sister. The coach was still new in Humble Hearts School, and there was no way she knew Gal.
"Man, that coach was staring at you when you were practicing," Timothy told his best friend. He had seen the coach staring at Jordan. It was weird, the coach's stare was only focused on Jordan. As he talked to the swimming team, and as he was swimming.
Jordan shrugged, he didn't know what to answer his friend, he was asking himself the same question.
Why had the coach asked him not to tell his sister she had spoken to him, the coach was either stupid or she wasn't thinking when she said that. Of course, Jordan planned on telling his sister. He wanted to know what was going on.
He thought of maybe asking Sheryl the next day, what Ryder Pack was and if there were any other wolves from it. He wished he would ask some of the werewolves they attended school together, but that was out the question, he was damn sure there was no way he was ever going to get an answer. If they were not close friends at the pack house how were they even going to answer him there in the school?
Any other day there would be laughter in the car but not today. Jordan remembered the scary look her sister had the previous day when she had arrived at Timothy's home, her sister had looked scared. It was even a surprise she didn't cuss him there and then.
They were close, and people sometimes thought Gal was her mother. Jordan wanted to know what was happening, he planned on asking her sister every question. It wasn't like he was ten years old or less than, he was sure he would understand whatever her sister was going to tell him, most importantly why her sister wanted him to stop swimming.
"What's wrong with my sister?" He asked himself, raising his eyebrows.
Timothy looked at his best friend, wrinkled his brow, and narrowed his eyes at him which was received by a "what?" from Jordan.
"Why are you raising your eyebrows like that? It's a game, right?"
Jordan shook his head at his friend, there was no way he was going to play any game. He was thinking of his sister and coach Sheryl. They had arrived at Timothy's home, and he was ready to get out and go wait for her sister to come to pick him up.
"Jordan darling, it's raining outside." Timothy's mother stopped him before he could get out of the car, Timothy laughed at his friend and told his mother she could have kept quiet and left Jordan to leave the car and get wet.
Timothy's mother began asking them how the school was, and they asked her how her day was too.
The phone rang and it was from Gal and since it was on a loudspeaker, they could hear her tell Timothy's mother, she was going to be a little late, she was to wait for the rainfall to end or to reduce and then come pick Jordan.
He felt sorry for her sister if only him not arriving home at the exact time didn't scare Gal, he thought of walking alone to the pack house while thinking of all the questions he was going to ask her.
It stopped raining and they headed to the house, Timothy's mother made some tea and gave them to drink while she was washing up. Timothy's room was cozy and spacious, and for the first time, Jordan realized how its size was almost the same as his and Gal's room was. They sat and Jordan watched Timothy as he drew, after some few minutes of failed attempts he asked Jordan if they would do their homework.
Jordan agreed and promised to start seriously to teach his best friend the first step of drawing.
There was a knock on the door and Jordan knew it was her sister. He gathered his books and put them into his bag, shouting at Timothy's mother, he wished them a good night and headed to the door.
Gal stood there at the door looking like a lost puppy, she was drenched wet. "You want to come in and ask Timothy's mother for a towel?"
Jordan's question was received by a no, he knew there was no need of begging his sister. A no to her was a no. They went on their way home as Gal told him how her day was, even though Jordan looked interested in the conversation he wanted to ask his sister what was going on.
If it was wrong for him to worry about her.
