A few weeks later…
"Sam, are you sure you're up to going out tonight. I mean you're finally all healed." Mara asked as she was unpacking her suitcase. She had spent the last few weeks helping Sam get back on his feet. When he was finally healed up, she packed a bag and went to visit Jillian for a couple days. It was Christmas break. Her friends booked a last minute ski trip.
Jillian didn't want to leave her mom alone for the holidays, but Mara knew it was good for her to be with her friends. So she drove to the school and they had an early holiday celebration. Mara bought Jillian a beautiful winter coat for the trip. She was so proud of how independent Jillian was. After the trip she was going to come visit Mara and finally meet Sam.
She had just gotten home and was unpacking her things. It had been a while since she was in her own home. "Baby, I'm fine, besides it's a tradition. On the guy's birthday we go out and have a few drinks." "Well, ok but why at a club, I mean don't you cops do the bar thing?" Sam laughed, "yeah, but you remember Tyler, his brother owns this club so we've been going there forever." "Sam, it has been forever and a day since I've been to a club," she said as she unpacked a bag of groceries.
"Babe" he cut her off, "don't start please. You're the sexist woman I have ever laid eyes on and last I checked underneath those plaid flannels of yours, you have an amazing body that I would love to see in a short little dress." Mara blushed, thank god he couldn't see her right now. Just hearing him talk about her body shot a hot sensation right to her core. "You certainly know how to get what you want Lieutenant Howell." She smiled.
"Well, while I'm on a roll, how about you pack another bag and come stay with me." Mara sighed. "Sam." They had talked about this over the past few weeks, but she just wasn't sure if she was ready. "I just bought my townhouse and thanks to you I have barely spent anytime in it." "Yeah, but you like my house better. Besides when you're not here, I can't find a damn thing anymore." She laughed.
Changing the subject she asked if Wiley and his wife were coming. "Ah it's sort of a no kids, younger type of crowd," he said begrudgingly. "Oh well I have a kid so that excludes me," said being a smartass. "Babe, I mean ya know, no little kids." "Uh huh I got it loud and clear, alright well it's going to take me an hour to find something to wear so I better start looking now. You know I just have so many club clothes to choose from." She sounded less than thrilled. "Yeah, Mar ok.." Sam said …
Mara walked out of the shower and walked over to her vanity. It had been ages since she'd been out to a nightclub. If this was for a no kids, younger crowd than what was she doing going there? Oh well, she needed to stop being so sensitive. She was a little excited, truth be told. Her makeup looked great, she was pretty good at it when she actually did it. Her eyes were smoky with a nude lip. She used a crimper for her hair and put half of it up and walked toward the closet.
This was her problem, she wasn't great at picking out clothes. What do people wear to nightclubs nowadays? Probably nothing, she laughed to herself. She grabbed a short black leather skirt and paired it with a sexy cut out black top. She knew Sam mentioned her wearing a dress but she just didn't have anything that would work. She paired them with some fishnet stockings that she thought looked super sexy and heels.
She turned to look in the mirror and didn't recognize herself. "I look good." she giggled. Maybe Sam was right and this would be a fun night. She was almost embarrassed to think that the last time she went to a nightclub was in college. "Mara your a grown ass women," she said to herself. Grown ass woman can have some fun. She grabbed her small purse and made her way to the front door.
Sam had to go to the station to fill out some paperwork. He had been on disability for the last few weeks and couldn't wait to get back on the job. Tonight was to celebrate his friends birthday, but also him returning back to work. He was going to meet her at the club. Mara was getting a lift from an uber, but the driver was someone Sam knew and trusted. They were coming back to her house and this way she didn't have to worry about her car.
It was chilly out so she grabbed a long ivory coat to cover herself up. Christmas lights were hung up throughout the neighborhood. There was a huge blow up snowman next door. Mara's mind went back to Jillian, she was scared of snowmen ever since she was a kid. It was a running joke in the family. Maybe Mara would have to pull the plug on this thing before Jillian came to visit. She was so excited for the two of them to finally meet.
She knew if they spent a little bit of time together they would hit if off. Although she did worry about Sam, the only experience he had with 20 something year old girls was dating them. Well that thought just crushed her. The next second she felt her phone vibrate. It was a text from Sam.
"Can't wait to see you tonight, my light weight." It had a drink emoji and smiley kissy face next to it. He loved to call her a light weight because after one or two drinks she was drunk. She text him back, "That's why we're stopping for donuts after LOL." She loved to tease him about donuts. It was an old cop joke that they love donuts.
The thought of dancing with Sam made her so excited, she waited for her ride feeling like a giddy school girl. "What does this guy do to me." she laughed at herself.
