Chapter 2 - I

I looked up at the sky as I walked out of my workplace. The rain was coming. It was only a matter of time. I could smell it. Night had crept up on me without notice. I loved the night and being in it. Darkness was where I found the most peace. It was like home to me that's why I worked at night. I come alive in the night time I guess one could say.

When it rains, I had a habit of leaving my car at home making sure I could walk in it. But there were down falls to this. My girlfriend, Gabby. She hated the rain. She hated anything wet. So when I walked in the door with wet clothes and shoes, it drove her up a wall. Tonight was going be one of those nights.

"Think we'll get rain tonight?" A man asked me.

I looked to the side, I hadn't realized he was there until he spoke. Pulling my hood up and stuffing my hands in my pockets, I nodded.

"Uh, yeah. It looks like we will." I answered.

He must have worked in the building but I knew I never seen him before. That wasn't a surprise. I'd worked with hundreds of people everyday and never knew them or see them again in the building.

"It won't be fit for man or beast to be out. Heard on the radio it was supposed to pour down." He sighed and shook his head before stepping onto the pavement.

I watched him. His bald head glistening as the street light shined against it as he walked. His briefcase case in one hand. He had his left hand clutching his coat together. A little jog was being forced when it began to sprinkle.

When it began to sprinkle, I began my journey home. Working in a cubicle and answering phone calls everyday was not the job I'd always seen myself doing. I always wanted to be an artist. I was good. I knew that. But rejection was one thing I wasn't sure I could handle. Even my girlfriend thought I was good. Even encouraged be to try putting my art out there. As much as that was a good idea, I just couldn't. So in the consequences of playing it safe, I was stuck behind a desk everyday. Taking calls and trying to help people fix broken appliances.

The rain now started to come down harder. I reached into my bag that was slung across my back and grabbed my phone and sent a quick text to Gabby letting her know I was on my way. I tucked the phone back, not waiting for a response. It was probably going to be a angry one.

As I got closer to the street of my house but not quite there yet it began to rain very hard. So hard, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. Maybe Gabby was right. I should have drove. The only thing I could see was the faint shine of the streetlights doing their best to lead the way but it wasn't working.

Attempting to seek shelter, I glanced over to my right and seen a lamp shining in the window of a nearby house. Without thinking twice, I jogged towards it. After stepping in puddles and mud, I finally made it to the door step. But not without falling and almost busting my ass but I did manage to damage the heel of my palm. I was on my hands and knees on the porch of the house as the door opened.

I looked up and see black heel boots. Dark jeans that lead up to a girl with light blue eyes that made the hair around her head look even darker. Her lips was coated with red lipstick and she was draped in all black. She was mesmerizing. Feeling lost for words, I did my best to stand up. Her eyes followed my every movement. Jutting out my damaged to her, unknowingly, she just looked down at it. She didn't shake it, which made me look down.

Damn. Of course she wasn't going to take it. It was bloody and scarred up. Quickly dusting off my good hand on my pants, I offered that one to her instead. She watched every action but slowly reached out to grab my damaged hand. I frowned because she didn't take it before but she was reaching for it now. Out of reflex, I jerked back from her which made her eyes fly up to mine.

"Sorry. I–I um, here." I offered it back to her already feeling like an idiot.

She watched me silently for a second, I guess making sure that it was ok to take. Probably wondering if my dumbass was going to jerk back again. When I didn't, she slowly lifted my hand and inspected it.

Her hands were cold to the touch but I had to stop myself from jerking back again. Looking over the top of her head as she looked at my hand, I got a glimpse inside of her house. It was as if it was decorated from a Victorian google search. Mostly dark colors. Burgundy and black a hint of silver or gold in some places.

"I'll fix you an ointment. Come." She spoke softly letting go of my hand as she turned to walk by inside.

Her voice was like silk but yet demanded attention. I could listen to it for hours. It would be something to get me to sleep.

"I'm kind of in a hurry. My girlfriend is waiting for me." I whispered the last part. I don't know why. For some reason I didn't want her to know I had one.

Don't get me wrong. I had a beautiful girlfriend and she was nothing to be ashamed of. But if we were being completely honest, the woman in front of me was just ... inhumanly beautiful.

When I said those words she stopped and looked back at me. Her eyebrow cocked but her face remained expressionless. She watched me, unmoving. I licked my lips and stumbled in.

"Maybe just for a minute." I mumbled and shut the door as I stepped over the threshold.

She began walking once more still silent. But my eyes watched her. The only noise that was heard was the clicking of her boots. I followed her down the dark hallway that was decorated with pictures of different people and roses. The pictures must of been from her ancestors because they were very old. Old border moved around the top and bottom of ceiling and floors. Every door that we passed was shut but a dim light was shining underneath.

My eyes moved to her. The way her hips moved. It was something you'd see in a catwalk. Only more seductive. I inhaled and looked down at my feet, trying to rid myself of the thoughts that were coursing through my head.

After what felt like a mile walk, we finally made it to what was considered the kitchen. It was huge. Enough to accommodate more than ten people. She must've had roommates. There was no way this one person could live here alone. Who'd want to? The house and kitchen was massive. I doubt I'd be getting a tour of it. Hence all the doors being shut tight.

"Sit. I'll get the ointment." She spoke, walking towards the cupboard.

She retrieved a few things that I guess she need to fix it. I didn't really need her to go through all of that trouble for me. It would heal naturally I'm sure.

"You don't have to go through all of this trouble. I'm sure I'll be fine." I said, looking around.

There was a huge knight in armor in the corner of the kitchen. From the way everything was set up, I secretly wondered if he was real. But my attention was directed to her as she motioned for me to sit down in the one huge wooden chairs.

I followed her directions. She joined me not a minute later with a bowl. Her blue eyes watching her own movements.

"You needed shelter from the rain, did you not?" She still was looking down at her hands as she mixed whatever is she was mixing. Her olive skin glistening from the ointment liquid.

I cleared my throat. "Yes."

"Then you will sit and let me apply this ointment to your hand. The rain will time have to slack." She whispered before moving her eyes to look at me.

It was like her eyes pinned me there. I couldn't move. I couldn't speak. Well, I tried but nothing came out. She reached for my hand and held it. With her other hand, she dipped her fingers down in the bowl.

"I can hear you breathing love." She whispered, looking up at me through her lashes.

"I'm sorry." I muttered.

She slightly grinned. "Sorry? Why? You're supposed to breath."

I bit my lip and watched her rub the ointment on my palm. Her hands were so soft. Cold but soft.

"But you're not supposed to hear me breath." I scoffed, shaking my head.

She hummed and rubbed my palm. "There's a lot of things we shouldn't do isn't it?"

I smiled and watched her finished up.

"The rain seems like it won't be slacking up anytime soon." She spoke from the sink and her back was to me.

At her statement, I looked out of the huge windows. The same window the lamp I seen when I walked on the porch. She was right, it was coming down.

"... where you are?"

I frowned, "You said something?"

She was now in front of me. Leaning against the table, her palms face down. Her cleavage was in plain view as her necklace swayed from side to side.

"I said, do you think you're girlfriend is wondering where you are?" She tilted her head to the side.

Shit. Gabby.

Her eyes were staring right into mine. I could see her eyes switching back and forth between mine.

"I should give her a call. She's probably worried about me." I sigh and reach in my pocket to retrieve my phone, but cool hands stop me.

Her face was closer to mine now. Flawless. She was indeed poetry in motion. I looked up at her and she smiled.

"I think you should stay a little longer. Hmm what do you say?"

I swallowed harshly. "What's your name?"

For the first time of the night, I was not only scared but in denial. She grinned fully.

Fangs.

"Melania ."
