The room felt unusually cold and lonely. Amelia blinked her eyes slowly, adjusting them to the darkness. She reached out her hand, searching for human warmth but all she could feel was the cold bed. 'where did Jerry go?' she thought. Sluggishly, she got out of bed, put on her robe and headed out of the room. The whole house was tranquil. The only sound being made were Amelia's soft footsteps. Wrapping her robe tightly around her body, she made her way towards Emily's room. Her hands found the cold metal door knob, twisting it slowly. The voices she heard from within the room made her stop. 'Emily's with someone?' she thought to herself. Amelia placed her right ear on the door. She could hear Emily talking to a male. It Sounded like Jerry's voice, but Amelia chose not to think that. It was highly unlikely that Jerry would be in Emily's room by 3am in the morning. There was a brief silence accompanied with muffled kissing sounds and moans. Feeling agitated, Amelia pushed the door open. She was unable to control the shock she felt, as her mouth was hanging open. There they stood, Emily's back on the wall. She was shirtless, exposing her full breasts. Jerry was in front of her, his hands circled around her waist. They both looked at Amelia, their faces filled with shock. Amelia scoffed. "You both look like you've seen a ghost." Amelia said as she crossed her arms on her chest.
"Babe I can explain." Jerry said, walking towards her.
Amelia ignored him and walked over to where Emily stood. There was an unsettling silence before Amelia spoke.
"You're not going to say anything?"
Emily rolled her eyes.
" I have nothing to say to you."
Amelia could feel the rage building up inside her.
"I just caught you making out with my boyfriend. I expect you to beg for my forgiveness." Amelia said.
Emily let out a long and hard laughter.
"Sweetheart, I don't regret what I did."
Emily glanced at Jerry, who was shaking like a scared puppy.
"Since you caught us, I might as well spill the beans. Jerry and I have been having sex for a month now." Amelia was dumbstruck. She wasn't hurt by what Jerry did. She was hurt by the fact that her best friend betrayed her.
"What….."
Amelia had a lot to say, but couldn't find the right words.
"How could you do this to me? I'm your best friend!"
Emily tilted her head.
"Best friend? Don't make me laugh. We all know you treated me more like your minion that your friend." Amelia stumbled back a little, feeling like she had just been hit by a large object.
"I've always hated your guts. You think everything revolves around you."
Amelia bolted from the room, not wanting to hear anything Emily had to say anymore. Banging her room door shut, she slumped to the ground. Emily's words replayed in her head like a broken record. Hugging her knees tightly, hot tears began to fall from her eyes. She buried her head in between her knees and her chest, letting it all out.
"Who's there?" Maria said as she sat up on the bed.
She had heard a knock on the door, which caused her to wake up. Originally, she had planned to ignored it, but whoever was the behind the door was persistent. She looked at the wall clock. It was 4:15, which was too early for anyone to pay her a visit. Maria was curious, but at the same time, she was scared. What if it was someone dangerous? Her mind wandered, thinking about all the possibilities. The knocking grew louder, jerking her back to reality. Getting up from the bed slowly, she headed towards the door. Maria reached out for the door knob and paused. She could hear a sound, a sound she had wished to never hear again.
"Oh God no…"
the words escaped her lips before she could even think about it. Her body was trembling but she summoned up courage and looked through the peep hole. All the blood drained from her face as she fixed her eyes on the entity at the other side of the door. It was the creature from the other night. She could never forget it's horrendous features. Maria backed away from the door quickly, thankful that she hasn't opened it. The door began to shake violently as the high pitched shriek got louder. Maria ran into her room, locking the door as fast as she could. The loud noise she heard outside the room made her know that the creature had gotten in. Without hesitation, Maria got into her closet, shutting the doors tightly. Tap tap tap tap. The footsteps were getting closer. Maria put her hands over her mouth to restrict her loud and heavy breathing from being heard. The monster's footsteps got closer and stopped. There was a moment of silence, followed by a deafening noise. It sounded like the door was being broken down. Tap tap tap tap. The creature stopped directly in front of the closet. Maria could hear it growl softly. The rate of her heartbeat grew faster by each second. The creature yanked the closet door open. Maria's eyes went wide with terror. Maria let out an earsplitting scream as she opened her eyes. She stared at her ceiling, partly dazed, partly confused. Sitting up slowly from the bed, Maria looked around her room, almost frantic. 'Was it a dream?' she thought. The fear she felt, the eeriness of the creature, everything felt so surreal. Placing a hand on her chest, she let out a sharp breath, trying to calm herself down. Maria flopped back on the bed, pulling the covers over her. Deep down, she knew sleep was the last thing she was getting this night.
Shattering noises were heard from the living room which caught Amelia's attention. Wiping her now teary and puffy eyes, she headed downstairs to investigate the noise. The air around the house felt musty. As she walked down the stairs, her nose caught a whiff of a strange, inexpressible smell. Besides the strange smell, the unsettling silence around the house bothered Amelia. It gave the atmosphere an eerie feeling. She fumbled on the wall for the light switch, flipping it on when she had successfully found it. "what happened here…." Amelia said as her eyes scanned the living room.
Shards of glass were scattered across the floor. The sofa had claw marks on it, the stuffing exposed. Amelia was perplexed by the scene right before her eyes. The sofa had a darkish red colour stained on it. Amelia moved closer to examine the stain.
"is that…."
Amelia could smell the same odour she perceived on her way down her. It smelled like rust. That was when it hit her. It was blood. Amelia moved back, her heartbeat quickening. Why was there blood on the couch? Moreover, why was the living room in this state? Amelia was having a hard time comprehending the situation when she noticed a person's foot sticking out from the back of the sofa. 'was someone in the living room?' Amelia thought. That was when she remembered that Nancy was in the living room. Amelia found it weird that she was behind the sofa. "Nancy?" Amelia asked as she walked over to where she was.
"Ahhhhhhhhh!"
Amelia screamed loudly, falling on flat on her bottoms. Her breath hastened as she fixed her gaze on the grotesque corpse in front of her. She recognized the body. It wasn't Nancy, but Leroy. His stomach had been torn open leaving his organs bare. His jaw was in an abnormal position and his eyeballs were hanging loose from the sockets. Amelia's stomach began to churn. She hurled over expelling any food she had consumed.
"What happened?!" Jerry said, running down the stairs towards Amelia.
Emily followed behind him looking less concerned. Amelia pointed a shaky finger towards the body.
"What the hell!?" Jerry exclaimed.
Emily put a hand over her mouth, her eyes wide with astonishment. She bent over, vomiting loudly.
"Who did this!?" Jerry said, his voice agitated.
Amelia could see his eyes burning with anger. A deafening, blood curling scream was heard from outside. They all ran outside to check it out. From the distance, they could see a silhouettes close to the shore. It was crouched down, feeding on something. It stopped and stood up slowly.
"H-Hey is that a-a human?" Emily asked in a shaky voice.
Amelia couldn't take her eyes of the strange silhouette. It's body was abnormally shaped. It hands looked too long for it's body. Tap tap tap tap. The figure was walking towards them slowly. It let out a high pitched shriek which sent shivers down their spines.
"Run…."
Amelia and Emily looked at Jerry.
"I SAID RUN GODDAMMIT!" jerry screamed at them. Amelia and Emily quickly obeyed and bolted back into the house. The creature Began running towards them, it's speed increasing every minute. Jerry hastily locked the front door.
"What was that thing?" Amelia said, her body trembling with fear.
Jerry paced around the living room looking for anything he could use as a weapon. He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. He came back into the living room and stood at the front door.
"What do you think you're doing?" Emily asked.
"just in case it gets in."
Amelia gave him a confused look.
"there's no way you can take that thing on." She said. "We really don't have a choice right now." Jerry said.
A loud thudding sound was heard on the front door. It made their bodies jolt back.
"You both should hide upstairs, I'll hold it off here." They both nodded and made their way upstairs. The thudding sound grew louder and became rapid. Jerry was quivering so much. He chuckled.
"Why am I trying to play hero?"
he felt like he owed it to Amelia after betraying her. The creature broke through the front door and Jerry could see how terrifying the creature actually was. 'I'm so fucked' Jerry thought to himself
Amelia and Emily hid in the last room at the end of the hallway. They both sat on the bed, trembling uncontrollably. Tears streamed down their faces as they heard Jerry's screams. They knew he was gone.
"I don't want to die, I don't want to die…" Emily muttered to herself.
Amelia hadn't fully grasped the current situation. It all felt like a bad dream. If it was, she wanted to wake up right now. The house went quiet for some minutes. Then they heard it. The footsteps sounded like it had wet feet. Tap tap tap tap. The sound was getting closer, and closer. There was no way the creature could pin point their exact location. This gave them a bit of hope. The little hope they had quickly faded away when they heard the footsteps directly outside the room door. Without hesitation, the creature broke down the door. Their faces when pale as they froze with fear. The creature let out a blaring growl. It stretched out its anomalous arms and grabbed Emily by the neck.
"Help me! Help me Amelia!" she screamed, her voice getting frenetic.
Amelia was frozen like a statue, unable to move. The creature grabbed Emily's arms and began pulling it hard. A desperate cry of pain escaped her lips as the creature tore off her hands. It did the exact same thing to all her limbs. Her eyes rolled back into her skull as her body twitched uncontrollably. The creature Dropped her body to the ground and began feeding on it. Amelia sat there helplessly watching it all unfold before her eyes. Blood had been splattered all over her body, but she didn't notice any of it. 'I'm getting punished for all the things I've done' she thought. She knew it wasn't the right time, but she couldn't help but realize how much of a shitty person she was. Amelia had always felt like she was on top of the world, which made her act the way she did. She would have never imagined that she would find herself in a dire situation like this.
