Chapter 11 - A WILL TO LIVE

"And who are you getting all dolled up for?" Oliver said as he stood at the entrance of the bed room, arms crossed around his chest.

"It's Saturday." Kenna replied.

She was standing directly in front of the wide mirror, fixing up her hair.

"And?"

"And I'm going out for a date night with Daisy." Kenna retorted, not breaking her gaze away from her reflection in the mirror.

"You're going out dressed like that?" Oliver asked as he took a good look at the attire she had on.

"What's wrong with what I have on?"

Oliver did a double check on her outfit. Her leather mini skirt revealed her luscious thighs and she topped the skirt with a bralette which showed an ample amount of her belly. Oliver had never had a problem with whatever Kenna wore, but he knew her motive behind wearing this specific get up and that bothered him greatly. It was quite obvious that she was still very mad at him. She hadn't even looked at him once since they had started talking. Looking at Kenna again, Oliver felt a pang of jealousy when he thought about other guys even taking as much as a glance at her. Oliver walk over to where she stood and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"look, I know you're still mad at me, but I've already explained this to you. Maria and I are just coworkers, nothing more." Oliver said as he looked at their reflections.

"She may have feelings for you, who knows."

"Even if she does, it won't matter to me because you are the only one I'll ever have eyes for, and I'm not saying it to make you feel any better. I'm saying it because I mean it." Oliver said and planted a gentle kiss on her neck.

He could feel her tensed up muscles finally relax. "Okay, but can you promise me one thing?" Kenna said, finally turning her head to look at Oliver.

She stared right into his eyes which made Oliver know she meant business.

"Sure, anything."

"I don't want you going anywhere with that coworkers of yours, except it's work related."

Oliver sighed.

"Her name, is Maria, not coworker."

Kenna shrugged her shoulders.

"I don't care what her name is, Oliver."

Oliver could clearly see Kenna's demeanor changing. Deep down, he knew that if he pressed on about it, she would get angry again and her walls would be up. That was the one thing Oliver didn't want. It was always hard to reconcile with Kenna whenever they had an argument. He had made considerable progress and he wasn't about to loose it all. Oliver felt like he was playing a really hard video games and he had finally reached a check point after many tries.

"Alright Babe, I promise."

And that right there, was the cherry on top. Kenna always loved it when he called her that. Oliver could see a smile creeping up the side of her small lips. Kenna turned and gave him a hug.

"Thanks honey."

Oliver had never so relieved in his life. 'Remind me to never get on her bad side' he thought. Withdrawing himself from her embrace, he cupped her face in his hands.

"How about you take a rain check with Daisy and spend your Saturday night with me."

Kenna squinted her eyes at him.

"And what exactly are we going to do?"

"Mmmm, we could watch a movie. I got that movie you've always wanted to see."

Kenna's eyes gleamed.

"guns and glory?!" she asked, unable to conceal her excitement.

"Mhm."

Oliver had gotten to movie for her as a way of apologizing. He didn't think it'll work this well.

"Yes! Let's watch it!"

Oliver smiled.

"It's settled then. I'll order pizza."

"Pepperoni please."

Oliver nodded and picked up his phone. 'mission accomplished' he thought.

"Amelia, how long do you plan on staying in bed?" Amelia could vividly hear her mom speak to her from the other side, but chose to remain mute.

"You didn't even eat breakfast or lunch."

Amelia curled herself on the bed, pulling her blanket tighter. Her whole body ached from the beat down she got yesterday. Her head throbbed as she replayed the events of yesterday. Everyone on the cheer team surrounded her, beating her to pulp. Punches and kicks came from different directions making it hard for Amelia to defend herself. All she could do was lie on a floor in a fetal position, protecting her broken wrist, which had not fully healed. Even though her vision was getting blurry, she could see Britney looked down at her with the widest grin plastered on her face. Even though she was getting bullied by them, Amelia didn't feel any anger towards them. She felt nothing, no emotions whatsoever. It was a strange thing and even Amelia herself couldn't comprehend it. She blacked out eventually, waking up only when she heard the closing bell. The pain she felt immediately she opened her eyes was intense. Her whole body felt heavy. She spent a few minutes on the ground before slowly getting up and leaving the room.

"Can I at least come in?"

Amelia could hear the desperation in her mom's voice. "Come in."

the door clicked open, making light from the corridor seep into Amelia's dark room.

"Sweetheart, are you alright?"

"I'm fine mom, I'm just really tired."

Amelia felt a weight on the bed. Her mom had sat down right beside her.

"But you haven't eaten anything today. Are you sick? Should we go to the hospital?"

"I'm not sick mom, I just said I'm fine."

"I'm just worried about you, that's all."

There was silence before her mom spoke again.

"If there's something bothering you and you want to talk about anything, I'm here okay?"

"Okay mom."

Not once had Amelia looked at her mom since she came into her room. Her face had a lot of bruises and letting her mom see them was out of the question.

"I'll leave you to rest now. I'll keep your meal in the freezer just in case you get hungry, okay?"

there was that silence again. Her mom sighed and left the room. The door closed, shrouding the room in darkness again. Amelia pushed her blanket aside and hopped out of bed. She made her way to the bathroom, limping as she walked. She turned on the light and stood in front of the mirror. Amelia was repulsed at her own reflection. Her face was a total mess. Aside from the dark circles under her eyes, and her cheek bones sticking out from her cheeks, the bruises on her face had turned a dark purple, making it more prominent. Amelia took of her shirt. Counting the number of ribs she had would have been very easy because they were now visible. Her skin had the same dark purple patches on her face. She touched one of them and winced in pain. Her whole body still hurt, but not as bad as it did yesterday. Amelia sighed and slumped down on the bath room floor. She ignored the cold feeling from the tiles seeping directly into her skin. How did everything go down hill? This was a question Amelia couldn't find an answer to, no matter how much she thought about it. Will thing get better eventually? This was the question Amelia thought about everyday.

"Everyone has hard times, but things will definitely get better. That's how the world works." Amelia's father would always say.

Amelia held on to those words, hoping that things will most likely get better. She often dreamt about her past, how nice her life was. In all her dreams, they were all alive. Emily, Jerry, Leroy. They all looked full of life. Back when they were still alive, she never thought of them as important, but now she missed them. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she lay on the bath room floor. 'I can't do this anymore' Amelia thought.

Maria woke up with a splitting headache. The sounds of dogs barking in the distance seemed amplified in her head. She groaned turning to her side. Her eyes became wide as she stared at the handsome man that lay in her bed.

"Trevor?" she said, her face filled with daze.

She pushed herself up into a sitting position, taking a good look at the man that lay beside her. He was sound asleep. 'How does he look so good when he's asleep?' She thought. Maria suddenly felt cold. She looked down at herself and was shocked to see herself naked. She quickly reached for the covers, wrapping herself in it completely. 'What, the hell happened? Why does my head feel like it'll split open any second?' her mind had a lot of questions that needed answers.

"I see you're awake already."

Maria twitched when she heard Trevor's voice. She turned to look at him and saw that he was smiling at her. His smile seemed to increase his good looks by a 100 points.

"Good morning."

"G-Good morning."

Trevor sat up on the bed.

"What in the world happened yesterday?"

Trevor looked at her with awe.

"You don't remember what happened yesterday?"

"if I did, I wouldn't be asking you, now would I?"

Trevor chuckled.

"Good point."

"Please, tell me in details what happened yesterday." "Well, while we were at the lake, you said you felt like drinking so we went to the bar and you drank way more than you could handle."

Maria cringed thinking about what she could've possibly done while she was drunk.

"You couldn't walk because of how drunk You were, so I took you home. When I lay you on the bed, you got up and grabbed my crotch, saying you wanted to have se-"

"Stop! Just stop, please." Amelia said waving a hand in front of his face.

Oliver laughed and grabbed her hand, intertwining it with his.

"you were so cute that I couldn't resist."

Amelia's face turned bright red as everything started coming back to her. The hot and steamy night they had played in her head like a movie.

"I'm sorry…."

"Why are you apologizing? I enjoyed last night a lot." Trevor said, brushing a strand of her messy hair away from her cheeks.

"I'm sorry That you had to put up with a drunk person." "Mmm, well apart from you talking gibberish and throwing up in my car, I'd say everything was fine." Trevor said.

"see? So it was bad."

"I'm not complaining though. I would put up with anything you did to me."

Maria giggled.

"Isn't it too early to flirt?"

"I can't help myself when I'm with you." Trevor said grinning.

Maria found herself giggling again.

"Wait, you said you took me home?"

"Hm? Oh yeah, I didn't know your address so I brought you back to my place."

Maria looked around the unfamiliar room. She wondered why she hadn't noticed it before. The room was very spacious and well furnished. The walls were adorned with beautiful green plants and nature themed paintings. The left part of the room had a dark blue L shaped sofa with a small white rug underneath it. A huge flat screen TV was placed on the wall right in front of the wide bed they both lay on.

"Aren't you staring at the room too much?"

Maria switched her gaze back to him.

"Oh, the room just looks really nice."

Oliver chuckled.

"I could give you a tour around the house if you want?" "That's sounds nice, but how about i deal with hangover first. My head hurts so bad."

"Sure, I have some this drink I always take for my hangovers. It works well." Trevor said as he got up from the bed.

He put on his fluffy robe and tossed on to Maria.

"let's head downstairs, I'll make some breakfast for you."

The word breakfast made Maria's stomach growl. She quickly threw on the robe and followed Trevor out of the room.
