Rain wobbled again. He was trying to make the best of his infant self by adjusting slowly. He would swing his limbs to get a feel for them and then gradually put weight. It was a surprising amount of work.
Normally, Rain hates work. He is very lazy and always has been. It is a bother to get up and do things. However, the necessity of getting information about his new life and the curiosity that inevitably came with, made him put in the work. He wasn't that lazy. He knew where the line of being lazy and being a parasite was.
'You can rest when you're dead.'
At least that was what Rain had hoped, but apparently that was a fucking lie.
Rain knew next to nothing about this world. He knew he would inevitably have to ask him mother, who, by the way, he would not be calling mommy or some shit like that. As someone with the mind of an adult, that was way too cringe. If need be he could tone down his speech so that he didn't come off as an adult, but Rain would never become or act like a child.
Anyways, he'd ask his mother about their situation eventually. Since it didn't seem like they were poor though, it wasn't a priority nor did he really care at all. However, the situation of the world and history were another story. Asking his mother about that seemed a bit suspicious and she would probably tone it down anyways.
What he was most interested in was whether this world was like his past, full of technology and imagination, or whether their was magic like in novels he had dabbled in in his past life.
Rain jumped off the small bed. Fortunately, it wasn't very high, but he still crumped over the fall. It was annoying being this weak and uncoordinated. He kept his voices and sounds from his struggles as low noise as he could. He knew their was a maid outside one of the doors and he was not looking to alert her. He still needed to try the other door to see what lay beyond.
Rain arose and tottered to the door that he knew nothing about. He was getting better at this whole walking thing. Having reached the door, he leaned against it, using his body weight to the fullest. It seemed that they were a push door from the inside and a pull from the outside, so that was fortunate. He looked out as the door swung open just enough for him to slip out, before closing behind him. He had already realized the problem of getting back in, as he was not tall enough to reach the handle, but he also knew that he couldn't wait till he grew tall enough to get information. The earlier he knew his situation, the faster he could decide whether he should just try to end himself again.
Stepping out into a hall, Rain looked around. The room seemed to be at the end of the hall, as their was only a wall to his right, but their seemed to be more things to his left. He walked down the hall, knowing that if he looked directly to his left, their would be the courtyard and maid. However, their was now a wall separating them so it didn't matter. The hall continued and, though it didn't end, Rain discovered a room to his right without a door. He looked down and saw that their was a left turn ahead and their was no other rooms in the hall. He assumed that the courtyard was surrounded by the hall he was currently in, but rather than continue on, he decided to stop and check the door to his right.
'Jackpot!'
Inside the space, which fortunately wasn't blocked by a pull door, Rain entered a library like space. He felt that maybe the words that showed up when he first reincarnated were right, destiny really was on his side. Even better, he could read the titles of the books, indicating that the written language was also the same as he had previously known.
Reading the titles, he noticed a lot of obscurity and words he knew how to read, but couldn't understand due to lack of context. This became especially prevalent when he looked at the book he had selected that was on one of the lower shelves, ' Basic History of the Nine Heavens'. This was both alarming and exciting. If this indicated what he thought, the world would both be super cool and amazing with infinite possibilities and... full of assholes and people who he couldn't deal with.
Opening the book to the first page, Rain read the foreword:
'Before we begin, it should be noted that the entire history of the Nine Heavens is impossible to define. At least by people as young as us here in the First Heaven. Only the gods who lie above the Ninth Heaven and watch over us and the oldest and strongest of the Ninth Heaven can define that. However, in this novel we seek to give an overview of what things of significance have occurred as far back as we can look. The most accurate descriptions will be given of the First Heaven as information gets more obscure as the Heavens increase. As the one reading this book, you are probably just beginning your cultivation journey and seek the knowledge necessary to continue on. For reference, though we will assume you already know this due to it being common knowledge, the cultivation realms are as follows:

Next we shall get into the major families and kingdoms, though we will only go into the First Heaven as we assume that is where you are and also we assume that their has been no major hierarchical changes in the years since this book was published.
This was as far as he got, before he heard a noise. Looking up from his book he saw a maid, the same maid that was standing guard outside his door watching him.
"I was wondering what you were doing. I heard you when you opened the door due to you exiting the formation, but to think you could already read. Normally, I wouldn't care, but your mother will be returning soon from meeting with your father and you are my responsibility for the moment being."
She walked over and grabbed the book from my hands, reinserting it on the shelf, before taking me back to my room and placing me in my bed.
'Oh well, at least I got that far.'
It was true I would have liked to continue reading, but this was fine. I knew for certain what type of world this was now. That was enough. He'd have to talk to his mother in order to really be able to get easy access to what he needed, but it wasn't urgent. He needed a nap. Walking was hard.
With these thoughts in head, Rain passed out. The maid looked back in the room, a look of disdain flashed in her eyes due to the boy's status. If he had remained awake, he would have seen both that and his mother returning, a look of sadness from a seemingly unsuccessful meeting with Rain's father in her eyes. However, as she looked at Rain, that vanished as she looked after the only joy she had left in her life as a lowly concubine of a king.
