Chapter 6 - Unlikely meeting

Caleb sat on the bench, his hands brushing through his dirty blonde short hair as he let out a frustrated sigh. His deep emerald green eyes glance around the deadly quiet market square of the trade district, he got himself locked in here an hour or so ago and he'd been sitting here trying to figure out how to get back, his Master was going to be furious that he missed curfew. Rubbing his cold hands against his slightly pale skin that adorned his face he groaned, maybe he could use magic on the gate or call one of his fellows with his magic stone to help him out or if he felt brave enough summon himself a teleportation portal back into his room but that magic was dangerous and one mistake and you could end up parts all over the place.

Shoving his hands back inside his green robes trying to get them warm again, either method would get him huge hiding from the Master but he surely couldn't stay here all night. Caleb grumbled again this was his fault, he had to go to the bookshop right at the last minute and then get distracted by the owner about the topic of dragon's blood and its magical properties. Before they both knew it, it was way past closing and the gates of the trade district had been locked for the night. It was alright for the shop owner, he lived above the place so he didn't need to worry where Caleb's Master and fellow students lived a district and a half away. Finally making a decision he'd give himself a firm nod and jumped up from the bench, he was going to try and use magic on the gate. He didn't think the gate had any anti-magic wards on it.. it was just a really old and fancy gate. Then again if the Night guardsmen were nearby they did have a device that could detect magic used in the area if they didn't have magic abilities themselves, though Caleb hoped that the time any magic was detected he would be long gone towards his warm and welcoming chamber and hopefully can sneak back in without his master noticing. One thing at a time first he needed to get out of here.

Making his way towards the gate, he stopped in his tracks as sensed strange magic. Looking around he focused his gaze on the gate and for a brief moment, he swore he saw something glow then the gate opened and a hooded cloaked figure slid through and closed the gate behind them. He didn't recognize the magic.. not from what he sensed and saw but he could tell it was strong whatever it was. He glances around him, what should he do? Was this stranger dangerous to have such magic or maybe they could help him get out they did come from "that" part of the city so most likely the dangerous sort? Without any more hesitation, Caleb threw himself behind the nearest large white stone plant pot to hide. Peeking to watch the stranger who seemed to have noticed him, he let out a sigh of relief.

The woman had indeed noticed him as she turned to look around where to go, she found it amusing watching the young man dive behind the plants. Luckily her hood covered most of her face so he couldn't tell she caught him. Humming to herself as she began to make her way further into the trade district, this is where the man she was looking for was last sighted... The barkeep didn't give much more than this district and she had no idea how big this was. She let out a sigh, she was going to leave the man behind the pot but maybe he could help her since he was hiding he didn't seem dangerous. Her soft footsteps grew closer to the plant pot pausing on the other side, Caleb closed his eyes and kept as low as possible as the stranger seemed was going to pass him by but suddenly changed their mind and walked straight up to where he was hiding.

"I'm not going to hurt you, so you can come out. I want to ask you something" The voice was soft and feminine, Caleb was not expecting that at all. He peeked up from behind the plants and looked to be greeted by a cloaked figure, he could only make out the lower half of her face the rest hidden in shadow. The skin was pale and delicate looking but from what he could tell it was pretty, he stared gaping at her almost forgetting where he was. Jumping up, he'd brush off his robes, hiding his embarrassment and nerves.

"Ah yes. These plants are all...very nice" Caleb exclaimed trying to bluff his reason. The cloaked woman simply tilted her head to one side either confused or trying to read him.

"I see... Have you heard about the rumours about Lord Ashton last seen in this district?" The woman jumped to such a strange question. It made Caleb frown as he thought and was surprised at the question and have several of his own to ask.

"I well, I don't much but I heard the rumours about him. He was last seen entering a shop that was being rebuilt after it burned down a few weeks back before he disappeared" Caleb openingly announced, the woman glanced around the area at the mention of a shop.

"Which way is this shop?" She'd ask not returning her hidden gaze to him.

Caleb was confused, was this woman like a spy or secret guard looking into something about Lord Ashton. "Well, I'd like to answer you a question.. well several actually but I guess erm this would be the more important. What was that magic you used on the gate, I don't think I've seen anything like it before...well I'm sure enough not read anything." Caleb started to rabble on, his confidence gaining. The cloaked woman finally turned her head back to look at him, he felt she was giving him a look like he was crazy after an awkward moment of silence she finally answered.

"It was a simple unlocking spell. Where is the shop?" The woman calmly replied and asked her question again.

"There is no way that can be a simple unlocking spell, I know those and none of them do that..." He frowned before letting out a sigh "Look I'm stuck in this district, we can help each other out. I'll show you where the shop is and you can unlock the gate for so I can get out of here. Sound good?" Caleb then asked, his curiousity about this woman was itching terribly in his find. The strange cloaked woman gave another long pause, glancing back at the gate then over into the trade district, she clearly was considering her options then a small annoyed sigh come from the hood.

"Alright, show me where this shop is and I will help you to leave this area" She declared stepping back away from the plant pot and waiting for Caleb. "Perfect" Thought Caleb he could ask her more questions on the way.

"Well I'm Caleb by the way, Apprentice to Master Sighiem. You know "The" Master Sighiem best human sorcerer in the city." He announced himself with a bit of pride. "And you are?" he asked as she stepped from behind the planter and started to lead the way.

"Seras... My name is Seras" she replied as she followed behind him.
