Chapter 1 - The start of the Unknown

"Urgh" a single grunt broke the quiet silence of the night as one person was starting to wake up from his slumber, slowly moving his sluggish body as if refusing to wake up from the comfort of his dreams.

Opening his eyes as if the very task was the hardest thing in the world, Alex looked around his room, still felling the sleepiness making it ten times harder, he looked outside his window, the sky still dark and no a single sound to be heard or light to be seen from the near houses.

"Still the middle of the night, uh" was his only though as he went back to the comfort of his bed and hugged his blanket slowly falling into sleep again.

"turu tu tu turu t-" suddenly a random noise filled the room making Alex open his eyes and looked around startled, then, following the sound he focus on the nightstand next to his bed, finding the culprit who woke him... his phone alarm.

"... God damnit" Alex cursed his luck as he grabbed his phone to turn the alarm off, 6;00 AM, Alex laid back to his bed again feeling tired as if he never went to sleep last night, not that he slept for long since he was up late studying for his final exam.

Laying on his bed, still refusing of getting out of it he tiredly stare at the ceiling as if contemplating if it was worth it getting up to work, "what is the worst it can happen, i get fired?" was one of his though as he keep looking at the white celling of his room expecting for an answer that never came.

"well.... shit I may actually get fired if i am late again"

Founding his new resolution Alex got out of bed and opened his closet grabbing his work uniform and changing, it was a simple black shirt with the company name and logo he work for, cheap black pants and shoes that were provided by the company to keep the employees safe from slipping while working, but you still had to paid for them and couldn't wear any other kind because it was not approved by their safety regulation, the irony.

After he was done dressing he picked up his wallet, name tag and phone, them carefully navigated out of the house since he didn't want to wake his parent by turning the light on, after making sure he got everything he closed the front door and started walking, he worked less than 20 min away walking distance and his school was even closer so he didn't own a car and used a bus to transport himself if he need to go somewhere else.

"But today really is colder than usual, aren't we almost half way through spring? what is going on with this cold" murmured Alex as he walked while looking around as if he was being stalked, a habit he got after he and his mother got robbed a couple of years ago.

His mother always been weak on the heart and after the incident her health went downstream to worse, still it didn't stop the woman from working as she was just as stubborn about being active, luckily her job was quite easy and not physically demanding so it didn't affect her health much, still watching her being transported in a ambulance while clenching her chest as if she was trying to rip her heart because of the pain was enough to make Alex swear to never let that happen again.

As he kept on his way while watching as the night sky started becoming a mix of red and orange he walked into a small park where he notice that despite being early it was already being filled with different people starting their morning routine.

He passed an elderly couple who were sited on a bench feeding the random pigeon and ducks that lived in the area, he looked forward, noticing a woman jogging in the opposite direction not long before she passed him and start getting farther away from him, he shrugged his shoulders as he venture deeper into the park and noticed other doing their own activities that he watched while he walked.

"sigh, what kind of person enjoys getting up early to exercise in this cold" though Alex as he watched a group of people do what it looked like some cardio exercises.

He was by no mean lazy, his body while not having bodybuilder look, still was defined enough, he always did sports of any kind, specially volleyball and swimming in high school and after graduating he worked in construction with his father and later moving furniture as part time in a moving company owned by a friend parents making his body quite strong, still if he had to choose between getting up early or late he will always choose the later.

While thinking random things he notice an old lady walking opposite of him while holding a small child that looked around 8 years old by the hand, the old lady looked at him just before passing each other and gave him a warm smile and greeting Alex, shortly followed by the child repeating the older lady word "Good morning!"

"Good morning" Alex smile at the pair as he returned their greetings while passing them, he was quite surprised since he has seen many people quickly judged a guy as dangerous or creepy simply being close to kids, it has happened to him once when he was taking his sister of 6 to the mall to buy cloths for her on her birthday, he entered a random store and started looking for clothes, only to find himself being questioned by security as someone as called them saying there was a creep pulling a kid by the arm, which pissed him off as se had to call his parent ad had one of them to explain that she was actually my sister and took a couple of hours to clear the misunderstanding.

Just as he walked a couple more steps he heard a voice "Grandma look! look! its to bright! hahaha!" while listening to the voice of what it sounded like the earlier little girl he turned back just to see what was going, he saw the girl staring at the sky while pointing at it, laughing and saying bunch of thing so "bright! shinny!" making Alex look up, noticing the sky becoming more bright since the sun was staring to come out, he chuckle as he though it was just something pretty to the little kid.

As he was about to look down and kept going on his way he notice the sky was getting brighter which confuse him for a moment.

" Am I imagining thing" he though while staring the sky that kept turning brighter and brighter at each passing second

"What that hell is going on?" though Alex but he couldn't looks away as he felt his vision started getting blurrier because of the brightness but still looked at the sky as if being in a trance.

" Liza! dear what is going on! what are you looking at! snap out of it dear!" Alex could hear voices on the background but still didn't look away as the bright finally cover his whole vision and a sharp pain envelope his eyeballs as if they had exploded inside of his eyes sockets, making him curse in pain as he slowly lost his conscience.
