At last permission was given to attack the bunker. Sirin had left Spot with Mirana and Jan before leaving with the horde. Of course, the demon encampment was not left completely deserted. A few demons who had fought too much or even killed others were not allowed to go. The camp leaders had made sure they did their job.
Currently, Sirin ran across the no man's land along with the other demons. Some moved like humans while others moved on all fours, but a small number actually had wings to fly with. In an effort to keep up with them all, Sirin had turned his legs digitigrade. Apparently the only kind of shapeshifting he could do without the system was not that unique as some of the demons around him did the same.
It didn't take long for them to see the bunker. The first demons banged on the thick metal door, spat their fire, or poured their acid over the entrance.
The door couldn't hold for long with dozens attacking at the same time. The moment they broke through was the moment the alarms went off. Loud sirens with blinding red lights filled the hallways. A clear liquid was sprinkled into the room through small openings in the ceiling.
It looked and smelled like water, but it burned on the skin of the demons. Sirin was startled by the sudden pain and backed away to be out of reach of the water.
Many demons were not so lucky and melted away under the strange water. "Holy water." As the remaining demons called it.
None of them cared about the fallen demons. According to what Sirin had learned in the camp, they never really died in the human worlds. Their souls and consciousness would be sent back to hell where their bodies would re-form. The only drawbacks were that except for the wound that killed you, all the other wounds were still there. Furthermore, the absolute pain of dying and being brought back to life was enough to damage both your consciousness and soul with sometimes no hope of recovery. Sirin didn't know to what extent these stories were true, but he didn't feel like testing it out.
Finally, a few demons managed to melt the device from which the water came. There were still some puddles on the floor, but most of the demons crawled over the walls and ceiling anyways.
Sirin was unfortunately not able to do that and had to move carefully around the puddles, which ensured that he lagged behind.
As the horde stormed through the corridors, the people cried out. They shot, threw explosives and in the most extreme cases, tried to stab them.
Only there were just too many and the humans couldn't do much with their weapons. This bunker would fall just like the one before and the one after.
Black and red blood clung to the walls as the infernal noise echoed through the corridors.
Sirin had also killed a few people, the red blood stained his hands and mouth. He had also taken a knife from one of the soldiers. He no longer needed them, but he found it interesting how the knives were so different depending on where he'd found them. He planned to take one with him from the next world as well.
Sirin turned in shock after a bullet whizzed past his ear. A human woman had tried to shoot him while he was breaking a soldier's neck.
Before he could kill the woman, another demon had already eaten her head. No wonder there were so many corpses and so many demons last time, this was pure chaos.
Even though Sirin liked killing the humans as much as any other demon, he thought it more important to steal as many souls as possible now that he had the chance. He had already eaten the souls of the people he had killed by himslef, but of course it was much easier to steal the souls after another demon had killed the human.
Just lik that, he stopped the killing and chased after the prize of the other demons. These weren't happy to see their loot stolen, but they barely had time to go after Sirin or they would get shot by the next human.
Filled with joy, Sirin ran through the halls. There was a giant dog-like demon chasing him, but it didn't matter. It was wounded and probably couldn't follow him much longer anyway.
At one point, he found a secluded room where he could eat the souls he had from the other demons.
But after the usual notifications with which soul he had eaten and how much he still had to do, he suddenly got one that he had never seen before.
< Host gets stronger, system update will start soon to keep up with the host. The host is advised to find a safe place and not eat any souls until the update is completed. >
Surprised, Sirin stared at the red screen. "How long do I still have?"
< The update cannot be delayed for more than 60 minutes. >
"Shit ." Sirin cursed uner his breath. He got up and listened for other demons nearby. This was the case, but he was sure they wouldn't pay much attention to him.
He ran out of the bunker as fast as he could. Some of the demons he encountered looked at him strangely, but he paid no attention to this. He had to get out of here as soon as possible. He didn't know what the update would entail and if even the system told him to make sure he was safe as soon as possible, then he should.
