Chapter 1 - What Does the Sky Feel Like?

The same sound was the clock ticking for a full hour, not even a whisper between other students, or a pencil drop. My mind was telling me to wander, to wander where, to wander into the nothing of blue out the window. The clouds were now trailing off the mountains peak, and the sky was the same blue of my planner, only empty. A bird flew past in a straight line towards a leafless tree, no such green grew, no such auburn grew, or a yellow that could be the same as the one at the stop lights. A feather was all that was left behind in front of the window now slow when dropping. Closing my tired eyes, from looking into the sea of pale blue I wanted to rest, I wanted to understand what the sky felt like now. I held the blue onto my closed lids and imagined the feel of the color, was it a cool feeling, or was it a warmth that could wrap you and keep you company. What was the sky like, was the last thought before I heard the shuffling of students with their bags and seats being moved. I did not want to move but just as everyone else, there was a need to leave and move on. Hands full with a notebook that held a few empty sheets, and a planner not so pale as the sky when I looked harder, and last a folder red just like the sunrise. On my shoulder a backpack, packed with essentials to kill time, along with a snack in case if hunger were to strike.

Long away from the ticking of the clock, now all that was heard was the annoying honking of a small white S.U.V. down three stories below. I cursed softly hoping for them to stop and just let me cascade in the steady pace of cars passing by. Wheels turning the same amount of rotations on each four tires, and every other car almost the same amount of rotations. My eyes wandered back up to the sky only one lump of white fluff floating, and the movement steady. A flying rat picking at something nearby, and cooing loud. What does the sky feel like? I still don't have an answer.
