Chapter 19: Kate
Five years had passed since Kate had married Alex. Alex had joined the British army and was killed while serving on active duty. Kate was pregnant with their second child and was grief-stricken because she had come to love Alex. He had been Kate's best friend since they were children. Kate was also sad but was being strong as she could for their son Andrew who dearly loved his father.
James had married Jill. Kate hadn't heard from John since she had married Alex, but she still loved him and hoped he was doing well.
Kate had a daughter that she named after her best friend Sara who was so happy especially since she couldn't have children. Sara loved Kate's children and was like a second mother to them. Kate received a law degree, worked in a big law firm and had moved back to Mississippi.
Sara had married Jack who had been in love with her since they first met and moved with him to New York; Kate really missed her but was happy for her.
It was hard for Kate to raise her children on her own, but she was proud of how they were growing up. Her daughter looked like Kate but was smart like Alex. She had a lot of friends and when she turned five, Kate threw her a big party. Andrew was also smart and had made the honor roll. Kate received a lot of support from her family and friends for which she was very grateful. Kate's Aunt and Uncle spoiled Sara.
One day while walking home, Kate saw John who was still handsome in her eyes. Right away she ran to him and hugged him.
John saw Kate and she was still beautiful. John was still in love with her. They spent so many hours talking that John lost track of the time. His heart went out to Kate because of her loss of Alex. John felt bad that Alex was killed serving his country. He wanted to ask Kate to marry him but decided to wait until they caught up with one another's lives and got to know each other again. John bought a house in Mississippi so he could be close to Kate; he didn't want to lose her again. When John met Kate's children, he thought they were sweet. He won Andrew over right away and Andrew showed him all the toys in his room.
Kate and John had been seeing each other for about a year when John planned to asked Kate to marry him. He planned a special evening for the two of them where he cooked dinner for Kate at his house. "Kate, I have loved you since I first met you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" John asked. "Yes, I will marry you," Kate replied happily.
The wedding was beautiful; Kate and John danced for hours. Jack was the best man. Kate still owned that cabin in the woods, and they spent their honeymoon in that cabin. John loved Kate and the years they spend apart was worth the sacrifice.
