Chapter 6 - A study session

For the next three years, she taught me magic nonstop every morning until noon. We'd be huddled up in the living room as she'd explain things to me.

She's been a pretty good teacher, always smiling and complimenting me when I do something correct or lecturing me when I don't. And she wasn't only teaching me just magic, She ended up teaching me other things about the world, And when she's teaching these, Gerald is usually around, Acting as an assistant to her. Still keeping his cool dad demeanor while teaching me.

We would learn magic and study in the living room or outside in the garden sometimes when it was sunny, That was also when Gerald would come out and train with his sword.

Anyways, There were five books that Synthia gave me.

This book was pretty explanatory, it's a book used by all beginner mages who wanted to learn about the magic or man in the world.

And from reading this book, It seems like magic was just always in this world from the beginning, just a part of the ecosystem of this world. Plants and any life form has the pure form of magic; mana. The term magic came from how we would conjure magic into a form.

It was the man named Duvul who invented the usage of magic. He was the God of magic, earning the level of God to himself.

Mana flows through everyone. The book indicated that the amount of mana one person could hold was limited once they were born, meaning that once born, they were already capped. But Synthia told me that was false, training from a young age could substantially increase your mana pool and efficiency with them. That was why Lauren compared both our mana pools together, saying they were heavy.

Though synthia said that she couldn't reach any high mana pools once she turned fifteen, Her mana pool was fairly large, larger than a normal persons. but it was her efficiency with magic that made her into an intermediate user of all magic.

When it comes to using magic, there are three ways to conjure it.

One is Incantation. This includes reading out the magic chant, or just reading from a book to invoke the spell. Pretty simple.

Two is speechless incantation, This one seems to be a specific trait to some individuals, especially to those who have the duvul trait. This seemingly says that the user is able to feel the magic and just conjure it from thought instead of using a chant. This means it is faster and more efficient when it comes to any situation.

The third one was magic circles, or magic patterns. This required a special ink that would allow spells to be put into a designated area, whether it be a school or house. But this was the old way to magic, now it was just primarily used for spells that could be used longer or for the more complex spells.

There were also levels that came with magic, This usually ranks the spell into specific categories to evaluate their power.

The most basic magic. These included the five basic elements or spells. Fire, water, healing, Earth, Wind. These were usually specific elements a mage could use that they'll excel in. By learning the beginner's magic, You are able to manipulate them. Like making a water ball and seemingly making it into an ice ball.

This is where most magic would end up being combined. Like using Fire with water to make boiling water, or wind and water to create rain or clouds. This rank also introduces another sort of spell called detox, This is a spell that uses healing to remove poison or any sort of negative effects on someone. Most people end up at this level of magic, As it's able to do many things.

These spells are just Intermediate spells amplified even more. Healing at this rank is able to heal any limbs that were removed. Or even detox petrification if done correctly.

There wasn't much on this form of magic, but it said it was just like King's magic, only applying even more mana into king ranked magic. It's power is able to shake a continent if the correct spell is used as well. Mountains can be blown to bits. If magic is so potent here at this point, I would say that you could possibly heal any wound or missing parts with healing.

Now when we got to the topic of Duvul, synthia tried to keep it somewhat vague. I guess she was still thinking about the talk they had with Lauren. It was only when I read the book by myself that I figured out what the "Duvul Trait" was about.

This was the second Book.

< The Duvul's curse>

From the book, When Duvul died, his body and soul were transferred into pure mana. It was then that his soul was separated into multiple pieces, looking for the perfect host to be reincarnated into. And those who possess this trait would have many benefits.

They'd have a much bigger mana pool than anyone else, and they would have their magic usage be way more efficient than others as well.

The only drawback from this from what I read was the fact that you could be a possible host for Duvul, but the chances were somewhat slim since there have been people who had this trait, but never turned. However, those who might have the trait are mostly treated as crap amongst most people. Must be because of the name itself.

There were other books too, but these ones are from Gerald, Who just happened to pass by us when we were studying.

It held mostly info of the world, Roads to take in popular kingdoms. Talking of the multiple countries that thrive upon the continents.

The continent we are on is called Anos, reading the passages from this makes me think this place is similar to the United kingdom. With hills and plains stretching the whole continent. Up north from here is a place called Bandavor valley. And right underneath it is a kingdom called Prusha. I asked Synthia about that while we were studying and she told me that it was a kingdom under the rules of King Lucian Rabidawg. It was The last palace Gerald went to before he finished his Fire king style training under his master there.

There was also another palace that caught my interest more than the other continents, The demon continent, which was located at the top of the world. When I asked Gerald about this place, He shook his head saying "you aren't ready for that place yet, you won't learn about that palace until you properly learn to use magic."

The next book seemed to be a fairy tale. Synthia probably thought it'd be of interest to me to keep me entertained while studying.

It tells the story that happened many years ago about how a group of travelers ended up discovering a race of humanoid dragons in the mountains. The group decided to live amongst them, and thus dragon hybrids came. It says that there could still possibly be branches of families that could still have some sort of heritage with these dragons. The race itself has seemingly vanished, though there are some out there who live amongst us. Seems like they were pretty powerful, I asked Synthia about this and she told me about how Most of the kingdoms actually banned hybrids from their kingdom due to their powers.

So there's dragons here, just..not the ones I thought they'd be. But then again, These are from a fairy tale, So the idea could still be possible. I could be riding on the back of one if I could! Imagine me befriending one, it'd be insane.

The last book seemed to focus on the wildlife and creatures that roam The continents.

Not much of it seemed different in terms of animals than of the animals in my world. They had deer, Wolves, Lions, Etc Etc…

Now the monsters, They were different.

Here on Anos, we had wyverns in the upper mountains and they had these things called Stalkers when it was night in the plains. But then we had the typical monsters you'd see in those normal JRPG's. Goblins, Ogres, Giant Snakes, And even minotaurs.

They also had a whole section based on friendly races. They had the feline humans, which are a tribe in the south continent. They were called the Gradon Tribe.

There were also the reptile people who were called the EIdesche. Which oddly enough, is another way to say lizard in my old world. I'm pretty sure.

There are a lot of races in this world, it's astonishing. But our study session ended at noon and synthia wanted me to eat lunch.

I finished up reading this book and put them back on the shelves. I'll have to pick up on reading those last two books later on.

It was already time for lunch by the time I got my seat at the table. Gerald was already eating his meal.

We were having deer meat with rice porridge today. And it wasn't that bad. Texture wise, it was really rich, It's taste really mixed well with the rice.Though the rice wasn't as tasteful as I remember. This world's rice tasted more salty and sour, But it did it's job right .

"Y'know, Kota. You Haven't really been outside that much." Gerald said, Chewing his deer meat.

Kind of think of it, I haven't been outside, exploring. I've been cooped up in this house for four years now and not once have I decided to leave the place.

"Yeah, sweetie. Why not rest on studying and go play outside with the kids here." synthia patted my head. Ah, so soothing.

Ah I mean, Talking with others? I don't think so.

I've lost all my social skills just being here and spending a year getting my ass beat by kids my age. I wouldn't think it'd change in this world.

I looked out the window in the kitchen, and looked outside to the road.

I saw kids running and playing, having the time of their life.

Wish I cou- ah wait a minute!

My time here has somewhat made my social needs explode.

I held my head down. Maybe I should go out there and chat. This is a second chance at everything. Maybe it will be different. Who knows.

I think I'm overthinking this stuff.

"I-I don't know.." I whispered out.

And just then, I felt a hand on my back.

"Hush, there's no need to be afraid. If anything happens. You come to us." I heard Synthia say.

Huh…Mom never said that to me. Neither did dad.

Maybe this is all just going into my head too much.

I got Gerald and Synthia here with me.

Two good adults in my life who are there for me.

Who won't…leave me…

"Alright." I looked up as I said that.

"That's good! Tomorrow, we'll take studying off, and you can go play outside!"

"Yeah, just don't play too hard with the others, wouldn't want the parents coming to me talkin about our son snaking heads…though it'd make me feel proud you can fight, hah" Gerald was picking at his teeth when he said that. But I could tell he was happy as well that I was going out.

So tomorrow, I'll be outside. Making friends and maybe possibly getting into fights. Who knows.
