Chapter 8 - Side/ interlude story: Synthia’s Love

I'm Synthia Detrut. Formerly Synthia Hart.

I'm Married to Gerald Detrut, who comes from the Detrut family.

And we've just had a kid, our precious son. Kota.

He's been a fire in the house, a light that I wish to not extinguish.

There's so much I see in him that looks like my Father.

He seems out of touch with everyone, even me.

He doesn't even call Gerald father that much!

But when it does come the time to be serious.

Kota is there.

He learned to walk at a young age. he was even read and write at that age, which was phenomenal.

Our child, a prodigy. The light in our world.

I tell Gerald about this all the time at night.

How Kota will grow into a fine man, one that wouldn't be stricken with the guilt or trauma that we had.

I remember heading outside and seeing Kota and Lilith coming back. Kota must've saved her from something since she was badly hurt by her legs.

What a kind child he was. Poor girl too.

Afterwards, those two grew close to each other. It reminded me of how I was with Gerald when I fell in love with him.

Father always told me to love those who you fully see. And I took that to heart.

Gerald might've been a playboy, but I knew deep down that he was looking for something. And I wanted to be that something for him.

He was kind, charismatic. Funny to me even if his jokes were sometimes lame. Especially nowadays.

I would say Kota even shares some of Gerald's personality. But that would be figured since they are father and son.

Oh, whoops. I got lost in my thoughts, I have to make dinner for Kota and his new friend.

I finished up our dinner, it was pork ribs and some vegetable soup. I watched as Gerald and Kota ate it up. Lilith slowly ate her, but I could see she enjoyed it.

Looking at this makes me happy.

I have a family of my own, a child who is the light of my world.

"Kota, your cheek is riddled with food." I grabbed a napkin and cleaned up Kota's face.

He smiled.

He's like a warm breeze through the garden.

My everything.

"I love you, kota." I said.

He looked confused at first, and turned red out of embarrassment. I heard Lilith laugh at him.

These two will make a fine couple when they are older. They'll see.

After we finished dinner, Lilith went home and I had Kota clean the dishes with me.

He knows so much at his age, it's remarkable.

I ruffled his hair, and he looked at me.

"Mom?"

I just smiled.

And he smiled back.

To say that I love Kota is an understatement.

I would die for my child. I would kill anyone if they hurt him.

But I feel I'm talking out of motherly love.

Hm. Maybe I am.

We'll soon most likely have another child at some point.

Kota will probably be gone, I know it.

He has something on his mind, always.

But I know he'll come back.

And I'll greet him with open arms like a mother should.
