Chapter 26 - Chapter 25: Quickly Passing

Bie was standing firmly upright as he brought his fist into the abdomen of a brass Guide, while the sounds of a tuba sputtered from the opening metallic flaps along her arm. He was experimenting with something in the middle of the battle, noticing that his smile seemed to put off the people he was facing. If that was all, it would've been interesting, sure, but not all that capable of evoking the feeling of happiness he was experiencing.

No, the interesting thing was the slight suction force he began to become able to emit as stacks of resentment piled up, the imprint of the intangible smile that was half his height and longer than his arm span working to convert the anger into energy and redistributing it to Bie's body. It also seemed to be greedily sucking up more as Bie hit the target with more intense attacks, which was the origin of the suction force Bie was producing.

When the suction wasn't enough, he tossed the brass Guide up in the air before pulling her back down with the hand connected to his right stump of arm by Ariadne's Thread. He tried this a couple of times as the girl's body was surprisingly durable as thuds rang out in the air, before kicking her off the arena when he felt her body start to cave in under the blows he inflicted.

Counting her, he had taken down four Guides by now. He was squatting down in the middle of the platform as the arena jetted towards his next unfortunate victim, his simple bob fluttering as the air blew past his ears. A humanoid form coated in lead was the next Guide he arrived at, the guy having a panicked expression on his face as they drew closer to each other.

It wasn't only him that was wary of Bie, as he had attracted a lot of attention throughout his skirmishes. He hadn't struggled even once, which made him assume that everyone he fought was not only a lower realm than he was but had no actual battle experience. Although it wasn't like he was a veteran, the small shore of knowledge he had was the difference between a puddle and a pond.

The leaden Guide brandished a spear as the air squelched, each and every strike narrowly missing the backstepping Bie. He maintained a tireless avoidance until his challenger ran out of breath, after which he stepped into his lowered offense and struck him on the nose.

The spear whirled around and aimed straight for the inside of Bie's leftmost arm, though it was batted away by the perceptive Bie as he pummeled the Guide's face. He was getting a bit tired, mentally, as the concept of physical fatigue was almost completely foreign to his body. The boredom was encroaching on his psyche like a cobra wrapping around their prey...

The Guide fainted with flickering vision as his spear hit the ground, shattered. The weapon fragments dotted about the platform said a lot about each weapon that dared to be an obstacle to Bie's fists, though the Guides he fought against knew nothing of hand-to-hand combat. They simply had to put up a futile struggle as their weapons broke.

He watched as the fainted Guide was removed while his eyes started to seem a bit listless, his smile dimming considerably. There was only one opponent left for him to fight, and he was seriously reconsidering his previously high expectations.

His gaze was filled with the silhouettes of multiple fighting forms, counting four Guides currently fighting. His eyes sharpened considerably as their battles gave off the intensity his were lacking, and he realized that the reason his platform wasn't moving is because he was the only one left in his branch.

He started to think he was unlucky, and he had simply gotten all the weaker contestants. He ignored Wanxi's fight as he drew his eyes to the two boys on the remaining platform, noting down their movements.

--

A boyish looking Guide with ash brown skin and molten hair curtaining firm eyebrows clenched two yo-yos that produced arcs of light as they moved. His hands were like an earthquake, as the cracks in his flesh produced jets of flames as he threw the yo-yos in semicircle patterns, retracting the pairs of discs when his target dodged in the attempt to protect himself from any retribution.

The other Guide who was pitch black and had an ankh engraved on his glabella and beaming yellow eyes flourished a bat as his tied back straight locks whipped about. When the yo-yos approached him, his shadow seemed to expand as he stepped inside it, and the arcs flickered through him entirely. It seemed like he couldn't maintain this state for long, however, as his brows creased, and his movements became tense as he hurriedly stepped out of his shadow.

The two were locked in a bout of attrition as they both advanced and retreated alternatively. Sometimes, a flare dyed the surrounding light a mixture of yellow, red, and orange as the first Guide, a Volcane, whipped his hair after hopping over hurtling strings. The Vendetta Jackie, the second Guide, dodge the attack and gave a bow.

The bow produced red crosses that appeared out of sand, a multitude of which shot past his arms as he pirouetted and collided with the strings, momentarily stopping their rabid revolutions. The Guide gave out a winsome grin as his sharp teeth shone and rushed right up to the Volcane before bringing the bat down on his head. He stepped into his shadow each time their hair whipped out in retaliation before his foe gave in, falling headfirst onto the ground with a light tap.

No sooner that the skirmish's finish, the arena sought to lock itself with the free War-Mer who was still grasping on to the scepter. The two exchanged cursory glances before starting the fight, determined to see who the winner would be.

Wanxi brought her hands to the skies as white streaks flashed across her mauve eyes, while the Vendetta Jackie tied back his hair more firmly and let out a steady gasp as his chest heaved.

"Ram Downs!" The lightning streamed out of her body from her head and coalesced into a pulsating illusory mass that hung over the entire platform, while she let out wisps of cloudy air right above her. Before the guy could react, his expression became contrite as the mass of energy then formed into a massive spear that collided against his body.

Wanxi wasn't finished, though, as her a-cut fluttered with the cloud above her head as she directed it at the boy's smoking body, before it became a fist that brought itself over his own head before bringing descending down a meter, pushing his head down low as it sat there.

"...I concede. Now lemme get up or I swear to Mother I'll rip up Perdi the next chance I get..." The boy let out a low growl while Wanxi flinched, quickly dispersing the cloudy fist as he rose up from the tiles. He escorted himself off the platform and traversed to where the other Guides that were no longer participating laid, slumping down on a stretcher while muttering to himself.
