Chapter 16 - chapter 15

The moss nest in which I lay seemed quite small to me in my dragon form now. Nevertheless, I had to try to sleep a little.

The transformation and the conversation with Mineva were not only shocking but also very exhausting.

But I could not get the night and moon dragons out of my head.

Why exactly did I have to get into such bullshit!!!

But the other question was, how in the world could I be a moon dragon if I lived my whole life only with my mother, in the human world? Until a few days ago, I didn't know anything about dragons, and they were just fantasy creatures that you saw in movies or that appeared in books.

I have no idea what to do now.

With my thoughts, the sun slowly moved up the sky.

And Mineva came out of her sleeping cave. Arma and her young had laid down again in one of the nests that were in the herb cave.

I decided to try to get at least a little sleep while Mineva checked on the injured dragons. Until something small poked me in the tail. Surprised, I put it closer to me, but the pocking did not stop.

I opened my eyes to see what it was, but the little dragon jumped on my back.

At first I was confused, but then I had to laugh.

I started playing with the little one, and he was really cute.

"Oh Kayla, I'm sorry about that.

He must have kept you from sleeping."

Arma strolled through the moss nests and came to me.

"It's okay Arma, I couldn't sleep anyway.

Do you have a name for him yet?"

Arma was the next one to notice that I had turned last night.

But that didn't change the warm look in her eyes.

"I've thought about it a lot, but I don't know if I can name him yet because I'd like to do that with his father.

But he escaped with the others as a protector."

Her look became sadder, and I could understand her completely.

"Don't worry, I'll be tracking the escaped dragons today to bring them back, so you can name your young one soon."

We both smiled at each other.

With effort, since I still hadn't gotten used to four legs, I stood up and let Arma's baby carefully slide off my back.

It laughed and wanted to do that again, but Arma nodded at me gratefully and lifted him up to go back to her nest.

Then I went to Mineva.

"Good morning, Mineva.

You must have heard what I was talking about with Arma."

She didn't look at me and focused on the patient as she began to speak.

"Yes I did, and actually I shouldn't let you go, but maybe it's a good idea, so you can learn to deal with your new body.

So go, but as soon as you even sense danger you come back, got it?!"

I just nodded happily.

"Yep, got it!

I'll take good care of myself!"

With those words, I stormed out of the herb cave and into the sleeping cave to the filled-in escape tunnel.

Before I started digging I sniffed a bit and really caught a scent.

Then I started digging and squeezing through the tunnel.

It took me quite some time to finally get out, but I didn't lose the scent.

At the other end of the tunnel was a dense forest.

But I was able to wander through the trees without any problems, still with the trail in my nose.

Every now and then I could also spot scattered footprints in the soft earth.

I wandered over hill and dale for quite a while until I reached a hill.

In the distance there were no more trees and a large surface arose.

On this surface it seemed to me as if there were thousands of dragons at once.

In the midst of the commotion were the very young dragons, while the slightly older ones were playing catch in the air.

The rest were either walking through the crowd or lying around breathing steadily.

The sun sparkled on the colorful scales.

The scenario looked so peaceful that I didn't know what to do now.

I didn't want all the dragons to jump up and flee from me.

Lost in thought, I didn't notice something sneaking up behind me.

A hot breath brushed the back of my neck. "Move even a millimeter and I'll bite your throat open!"

Oh shit, that's not how it was planned.

Heavily breathing, I didn't move an inch, and cold sweat dripped down my dragon nose. "How did you find us and what do you want here?

Who do you belong to?"

I could barely say anything and was glad I didn't wet myself.

"I-I'm from the m-moon lake cave.

Mineva s-sent me to look for the escaped D—dragons and tell them they can return."

The breath disappeared from my neck and I finally dared to turn around.

A green dragon stood before me, staring at me incredulously.

"Mineva?

How do I know you're not lying?"

I didn't know what to answer, so I remained silent.

The dragon examined me more, and when he noticed that I was completely white, he looked at me in shock.

Then he bowed.

I was more than confused by the dragon's action.

"Why?"

I blurted out.

"You are a moon dragon, I'm sorry I didn't notice earlier.

I am Shu, companion of Arma and protector of the Moon Lake Cave."

Does that mean he is the father of Arma's young one?

"Pleased to meet you Shu, but please get up now.

Could you maybe help me bring back the other dragons?"

Despite that he had apologized, he still looked quite skeptical.

"Please, Arma wants you to come back too. You have to name your young one with her." "Arma gave birth to the young one?"

I smiled slightly.

"Yes she did, and it is healthy and full of energy."

With these words I convinced Shu and we walked down the mountain to the other dragons.
