Kayla POV:
More shapes appeared around me with every step I took. They flew, jumped and danced around me, began to tell me what had happened and how it all began.
A bright light appeared in front of me, it dazzled me and drew me into the past. Now I was standing in a large forest. A nest laid in the middle. It was made of branches, moss and scraps of fur, and it was gigantic. In this nest laid a bright white egg, and right next to it a pitch black one. More nests appeared, thousands of them, and always with a white and a black egg. Within seconds it became dark and the moon lit up the forest. Then it happened, they hatched, all at once. Little dragons without parents and no idea what was happening. Time passed with a single breath, and a whole dragon civilization of moon and night dragons appeared before me. All together they looked happy and harmonious. What had happened to destroy that? The dragons lived behind a huge mountain, behind it laid the clearing where they all died. A shadow passed over the dragon village, and suddenly other dragons attacked the night dragons. Without even flinching, unknown dragons killed the night dragons until both species fled in separate directions. young dragons screamed for their dead friends and family members, not understanding why this was happening any more than I did. Then a figure caught my eye. She stood at the top of the mountain and watched the carnage. I jumped into the air and flew up to the figure. It had started to rain heavily and lightning was striking the sky. I could make out the figure through the torrential rain. It had black and white scales and was probably a hybrid between the two dragon species. But when the lightning reflected off the scales, they turned a bloody red.The dragon's laughter echoed throughout the forest and its eyes burned orange, now I remembered Mineva's words. Was that a Sun Dragon? A fire started and the dragon threw itself into the flames. My curiosity drove me after it. In the midst of the flames, the red dragon dropped to the ground. In front of him was a night dragon, full of wounds, looking up with pure horror written all over its face. "How could you?" The wounded dragon uttered in a weak voice. "With the hatred I feel in my soul, I was able to exact my revenge quite easily. And this is just the beginning. It's a pity you won't be able to witness the coming bloodbath, mother!" With one blow, the red dragon dug its claws into its mother's stomach. She cried out in pain and spat up blood. "You shouldn't have rejected me. You shouldn't have excluded me, you shouldn't have left me alone. I had only just hatched from my egg when you put me in the forest. To the monsters. You left me to die just because my scales aren't really black or white. Just because I'm different. But that will be the end of you. The time of the night dragons is now over. The time has come for other dragons to populate this world. Dragons of all colors!" In the meantime, the dragon on the ground had started to cry pitifully. "You mustn't do that, you mustn't upset the balance. That also means your death Kira!" Kira, the red dragon took another swing, and this time he cut the wretched dragon's throat with a straight, clean cut. Not even a scream could be heard. The image blurred and the dragon's hellish laughter disappeared with it. Relieved, I thought it was all over when I suddenly found myself standing in the moon lake cave. But of course it wasn't like that. Only a moon and a night dragon stood at the edge of the moon lake. I came closer to understand what the dragons were saying. But it didn't help. I could only hear a few muffled words. Among them were "protect," and something like "last hope," and then they uncovered two small dragon eggs. One white and one black. With tears, the two mothers gave each egg another kiss until they rolled them into the moon lake. The dragons looked at each other, and what they did left me stunned. First they hugged each other, as if they were saying goodbye to each other, then they slit each other's throats. For a while I just looked at the bodies, the warm blood seeping into the moon lake like a river. There it turned golden and disappeared into the depths of the lake. The only light was the moonlight that fell into the cave through the hole in the ceiling and the glow that came from the moon lake. I lowered my head and walked slowly towards the two lifeless bodies. Just as Mineva had shown me, I wanted to pay my last respects and gently pushed the two bodies into the moon lake, where they dissolved with a golden glow. I realized that I and Lisa were in the two eggs, and that they were our mothers who had saved us. I was just about to sit down to mourn my mother, who had protected me up to that point, when I heard a mighty battle cry. Thousands of dragons flew over the opening of the Moon Lake cave, all heading in the direction of the clearing. I knew I couldn't grieve now, so I flew after the dragons. Two sides were now facing each other in the clearing, both baring their teeth. What I wondered was how the red dragon Kira had managed to set the dragons on each other so that they killed each other. "How could you kill him?" I looked at the night dragons. "What do you mean! You didn't deserve it any other way!" Then to the sun dragons. "We never did anything to you!" Kira suddenly stood next to me, but this time she looked much older. "The father of the night dragons was killed." She spoke to me! "I'm the one who killed him. But I have grown older, at that time I was young, hurt and scared. But I was also so angry at the dragons who didn't want me, and my anger won." She looked at me, her orange eyes no longer burning. "Kayla, you must stop what is coming. Another war will be the downfall of the dragons, and they will never come back. Make up for my mistakes and protect them, this was once your land." I had no idea what she meant. "Take it back, and keep building it up again." She stood up and was already turning her back on me when she turned around again and said. "You are not the dragon from the lake, find the lost eggs and save us. Please free our souls from this battlefield." Her figure disappeared. I looked back at the clearing, only dead bodies could be seen. And were blown away like dust by the wind.
