Chapter 18 - Chapter 17

I turned my gaze away and caught sight of Mineva, who was only a few nests away from me.

She was treating a chained dragon that looked very angry and was trying to bite her neck with its sharp teeth.

Fortunately, she dodged quickly and gave the dragon a slap with her big paw.

"If you don't let me treat you now, you will die.

So pull yourself together and put your rivalry to one side!

We're here in the Moon Sea Cave, and you've broken the peace!"

Mineva's voice literally cut through the air and silenced the dragon with her burning eyes.

I briefly considered just turning around and talking to her later, but her eyes were already on me and I couldn't escape.

Nervously, I moved towards her and recognized the slightly turquoise shimmering scales of the dragon, which seemed to stare into my soul with its poisonous yellow eyes.

"Mineva, I brought the other dragons back. They are all safe and sound."

I actually wanted to ask why some of the dragons were chained up, but that was self-explaning.

Mineva nodded and looked briefly at the dragon that had tried to bite her neck earlier.

"You did a good job Kayla.

And now that you're here, you should meet my former friend Sia."

I looked in amazement at the dragon lying on the moss nest with a huge wound on its belly.

But if they were friends, why was Sia fighting on the side of the Vitis warriors?

I only had more questions now.

Mineva, as always, saw my questioning look and sended me to her sleeping den with her tail.

I squeezed through the cave's small entrance and was surprised to see that it had grown a lot bigger.

"Some of the stones have broken off because I was defending myself here."

Only now did I see the scratches on her shoulder and her back.

"Sia and I grew up here together, and she was supposed to become a healer too.

But Smaragd, the Queen of Vitis, came to the Moon Sea Cave unexpectedly.

She said she was looking for brave dragons to start training warriors to protect the kingdom of Vitis.

Most of us thought that was absurd, as we were raised as neutral dragons and have always lived that way, but there were always those outsiders who didn't want to become healers.

Sia was always energetic and liked to fight, so she left.

That's how our friendship came to an end."

I could only listen, at that moment I shouldn't say anything and I wouldn't know what to say.

Mineva had only told me that I understood more and because I played an important role as a moon dragon.

Without further ado we left Mineva's little cave, she still had a lot to do and I was extremely tired, so I made my way to the sleeping cave and layed down in the next best moss nest and fell asleep.

My eyes were heavy when I opened them.

It was dark all around me, there was no longer a soft moss nest beneath me, but a hard, cold stone floor.

A strong wind brushed my scales and seemed to lift me into the air.

There was nothing around me and I felt complete nothingness.

Until a flash of lightning lit up my vision and made me flinch in shock.

Another flash, and then another.

As they appeared, I saw more and more figures.

It started to rain, clouds disappeared in front of the moon and in the bright light I could see dragons fighting.

Blood sprayed through the air like a black liquid, spreading across the ground.

Without being able to move, I watched the never-ending battle between the two dragons.

Finally the last bolt of lightning shot across the sky, silencing the clamor of the battle. Now the moonlight grew brighter, one of the dragons laying on the ground, its scales shimmering white and reflecting the moonlight.

Above the lifeless white body stood another dragon, blending into the darkness until it could no longer be recognized.

Snow began to fall, covering the blood-drenched body.

The previously white ground turned red. Then the image disappeared.

The next moment I was standing in a forest, a river flowing peacefully beside me, and for a brief moment I enjoyed the silence and the pleasant sound of the rippling water. Something moved in the bushes in front of me.

The white scales of another dragon flashed. "They have betrayed us, they are killing us, they have killed 'you', the battle is almost lost.

You are our last hope Kayla, save us, from our greatest enemies!"

I flinched.

The eyes of the dragon that spoke to me were completely black.

I took a startled step back as huge wounds appeared on the dragon's body and its blood flowed into the river.

The image blurred again as the river filled with blood and grew larger, almost drowning me, showing me images of war at the same time.

I couldn't breathe and my eyes closed again.

Out of breath, I jerked up.

Hoping to feel the soft moss nest under my paws, but it wasn't like that.

I was standing on a huge hill, with a perfect view of a gigantic clearing.

The clearing from my nightmare.

The clearing where there was a bloodbath. Thousands of years ago, the moon dragons were almost completely wiped out here.

And that, by their closest friends and their worst enemies.

The Night Dragons.

They were betrayed and betrayed.

But why?

Why did it end like this?

I didn't know, but I had the feeling that all the answers were on this battlefield.

That the souls of my dead ancestors would help me, would tell me the story.

With this feeling, I took a step onto the battlefield.

The moonlight lit my way.

I was ready to learn the truth.
