Chapter 5 - Recovery

You wake up in a Bed. A hospital bed by the looks of things. You hear a few nurses gasp as you awake, wondering what the hell just happened.

"uh....where am I?"

The nurses stay silent for a moment before one speaks up.

"You're currently at the Cestia Hospital, Mikado. We will let you rest for a while, but you do have a visitor."

"A.... visitor?"

They nod before walking out of the room.

A man walks in. He seems familiar. You then realize, and have a momentary flashback. Toru.

"How you feeling kid?" says Toru, taking the cigar out of his mouth. Nothing has changed it seems.

"Not too bad, just quite tired." you say.

"Well that's a given, isn't it now."

You think for a moment.

"Wait, you have superspeed?" you ask.

"Oh gods, I expected that you'd forget. Yes. I do. I never told you that, as I expected there'd never be a case to need it, considering how secured Cestia is."

You look at Toru for a moment before speaking.

"Alright, well how is the city?"

"The walls? The giants crushed them. There was in fact more than one, and a hundred buildings or so were destroyed. The buildings around the inn from the fight you had? You could say they're flattened, but I see potential for them to be fixed here soon." says Toru, woefully.

You look down.

"And the inn?"

"Destroyed. Flattened to say the least. I'm afraid you are out of your job for quite a while. I might be able to find you another job somewhere for the time being, but that's not a guarantee right now." Says Toru.

"So the Magic Academy might be far away." you say, sadly.

"There's light at the end of the tunnel kid, you just have to focus on it. There's still jobs open for merchant bodyguards you know. I have a couple swords I could give you." says Toru with a jest.

You think over the possibility of being a merchant bodyguard. You've overheard that the pay is solid from your time so far in the city, and it just might be your only choice for the time being.

"Wait. Before you say anything, we need to work on the conservation of your mana when you're fighting. Yours ran out as soon as you let out your first strike, and you can't go out doing bodyguard work if you can't even handle that. I'll have someone out to teach you within the next few days." says Toru.

You look at him for a moment before looking away. "Alright."

"Good. Now get some rest, you have some work to do."

You fall asleep to the beeping of the hospital machines around your bed.

You wake up and the needle and pads that were in on your body respectively are off. You look around, and you're in the same room, and the beeping from the machines have stopped. You wait a while, before a nurse pops into your room.

"Hi, how are you feeling?"

"Much better now." you respond.

"Great, we're going to let you go now, but please do be careful with your mana usage in the future, at least until you have that issue taken care of. Too many situations like this could lead to death." says the nurse.

The word death sticks in your head for a minute, before you shake it off, and look back at the nurse.

"Fine with me." you say with a smile.

You walk out of the hospital a few minutes later, to see the destruction put onto the city.

You look at it in silence, your mouth agape.

These people don't deserve this. Most of your week ends up with you helping those in need. Scavenging their destroyed properties to help them recover some of their property that was caught the massive destruction, helping other rebuild, and generally helping the city recover from what just happened.

The last 2 recent weeks has been you helping the tradesmen repair the front gates, slabbing brick by brick while on your rappel until they're all fixed. You must have laid at least 1000 over those 14 days of nonstop work before everything was rebuilt. You received gratitude from the King and his chamber, as well as a strong stallion for the hard work you put forward.

Cestia City is up and running once again.
