Chereads / The Existential Life of A Sword Mage / Chapter 7 - Fight for Your Life

Chapter 7 - Fight for Your Life

The bandits surround you as you try to not show fear. The woman speaks.

"Fancy finding you here, Of course you know there's only one way out of this one kid." says the woman, twirling her daggers.

You sigh, and attempting to again not show fear, you say "No....Not if I make one on my own."

You continue, "May I ask for your name before we get started? I'd like to know it so I can celebrate my first major kill." you say, eloquently, nearly breaking character.

"You know, I really don't want to, but I'll play along with this mediocre game you're creating, besides. It's 6-1 odds in our favor. My name is Ashanti." she says.

"Mikado." you say, flaming your sword.

You can tell she's shaken by your response for a moment, but quickly recollects herself only a second later.

"Wait....Ashanti? No, its a coincidence." you think, before focusing back on the situation at hand.

Your eyes glare in an emotion of confusion, sadness, and annoyance.

"Ah, a sword mage. We don't see enough of your kind it seems. Well then. I wonder if you're READY!" she says menacingly, charging at you. You attempt to defend, but it doesn't work, and you receive a major gash to your lower stomach.

You attempt to stand on your feet, but the pain immediately sets in, and you collapse unto your knees, your head hanging forwards.

"Why do I have to be so bad at at this....." you think, annoyed.

Ashanti begins to go for the kill before...

Time stops.

You hear a voice in your head. It sounds Human, but also sounds Robotic. You cant choose either.

*Sword Mage Perk 1: Activated.*

*When Surrounded by 4 or more enemies, Sword Element Power, Damage Resistance, and Mana Increases by 40%. If more than 4, the value increases by 5% per extra enemy.*

*Sword Mage Perk 2: Activated.*

*Barrier. The Barrier's strength and duration depends on your currently used element. Would you like an explanation?*

"Yes."

*Loading Explanation.....*

*The barrier works in the way of elements. For example using fire, a fire barrier is constructed, and the barrier is given a 6.585231 second duration before said barrier collapses. The Barrier heals the user partially while they are inside said barrier. This is nearly the same for every other element. Water has a 6.821392 second duration, Earth has a 6.121 second duration, Light and Dark have the same duration at 8.3921 seconds. These amounts are different due to the given power of different elements versus each other. There is only one element that doesn't follow these rules, and is an element that has been banished for millenia due to it. You will learn of this on your journey.*

"Those durations are oddly....specific." you think.

Your eyes open. Your barrier surrounds you, and you know you have only but a few seconds to react. Your injury seems to be healed. Luckily, Your sword is a fire one, and your speed should help with that. The sword is a basket-hilt. A Schiavona if you wish for details. You ready your blade in fire once more.

As soon as the barrier falls, you launch yourself at the nearest bandit, slicing his stomach in an instant. As you turn, you send off a blast of fire from your sword, injuring a few of the bandits. You use the opportunity to launch right back at them, smiling the entire way. 1 dies, after another, after another, then the 5th soon after. You wipe the blood from your blade on the grass before sitting down. Even you didn't know you were this brutal.

You forgot about the woman. She's simply looking at you with a raised eyebrow.

"You're rather brutal you know." says Ashanti.

You chuckle under your breath for a second after hearing that. You then look at the woman for a moment.

Ashanti looks to be some sort of elf. You can't figure out her specific race, mainly due to the fact that you're in some overly weird world that suddenly wishes to kill you it seems, and on top of that, and have just about zero knowledge on races here altogether.

Her subordinates however, were a mixture of Humans and Elves. It's odd to you as you overheard people talking in the city about the horrible and strained relations between elves and humans, so that group shouldn't have worked. You bring it up.

"Your group. It's a mixture of Elves and Humans no? Ho could you even manage to make that work without them murdering each other?" you ask.

"Us Elves have our ways. It's not like I tortured and hypnotized them to make them NOT kill each other or anything....oh I forgot that I starved them too. Can't forget about that. There's more ways but I won't get into that." she says.

You look at her plainly.

"Ok, back to what we were doing, yes?"

"No, I'm good, see you." you say with a wave, before sheathing your sword and walking away.

You feel her staring at your back for a minute.

She fumbles her words before saying "So you kill my men and just walk off?"

"Yep!" you say, putting your right hand up, looking away.

You continue, "I'll be in Cestia City if you want to murder me in my sleep or something!"

She did in fact try. Multiple times. Too many over a course of about 30 days. Each time you threw her off your balcony or broke her through the bedroom door. Your landlord isn't very happy with you to say the absolute least.
