Chapter 38 - The Dead Frontier (30)

Glen started to laugh in anger.

"So this was why? Daddy didn't like you, so you decided to kill your brothers? Do you want some warm milk as well, you little baby?"

Wesley sprung up from the boulder and hit Ezekiel with the handle of his gun.

"SHUT UP! Or I will kill this little kid you cherish so much in front of your eyes!"

Glen swallowed the words he was about to utter. He had almost forgotten where he was. This was not Rionel's Keep and Wesley wasn't his man anymore.

"Then why didn't you tell me? I didn't even want the stupid position in the first place!"

"I know... that's why it hurts even more! Something I strived for all my life and you didn't even want it!"

"THEN WHAT DO YOU WANT? What is it that you want by doing all of this?"

"I WANT YOU TO DISAPPEAR! Yes... that's what I want. If you didn't exist, all of these would have been rightfully mine"

"Is that why? Is that the reason you held hands with the Church of Night?"

Remembering the events from that day Wesley started to laugh joyfully. How could he not be happy to remember the one time he had one-upped Glen?

"Right, they offered me a deal. They said I was chosen and they could grant me eternal life. Do you know how happy I was to hear that? Someone finally chose me over YOU! They wanted ME and not YOU"

"So you chose to destroy everything we built together just because of that?"

"JUST BECAUSE OF THAT? You don't even know how important that was for me! I would even burn down the whole world just to have that feeling again!"

"You are mad..."

"You were the one who drove me mad! It was all because of you! EVERYTHING!"

"SHUT UP! None of this was my fault. Everything was a result of your actions. I have never done anything to deserve this. If I had made a single mistake, it would be the fact that I treated you as a brother!"

Wesley just snickered at Glen's words. He would never be able to understand his feelings. These desires that were deep inside of his heart. How could a rich man understand the poor's thoughts over a single loaf of bread?

"It's fine... I never expected you to understand me anyway"

Wesley rose his hand and the tattoo at the back started to shine brighter and brighter. Then torches started to be lit one by one revealing what was hiding within the darkness.

They were surrounded by at least thirty men and there was a horde of zombies standing behind them! Trying to get past the guards and eat Glen!

"Wesley! What the f*ck are you doing? Do you want all of us to die!?"

"Not everyone, just you. Hahaha," As the zombies and the men got closer Wesley kept laughing and then suddenly stopped as if he just remembered something.

Along with his laughter so did the zombies.

"You know what? This is too easy. If I kill you like this you will never fall into the despair that I crawled out of. I need to destroy everything about you. I need to destroy your pride"

Wesley took off his dirty brown duster and put his revolver into its holster.

"Glen 'Night Rider' Rhodes! I, Wesley 'Savage' Sutton challenge you to a showdown!"

"What? You are challenging me? You have really gone mad... But how do I know your men will let us go after I kill you?"

Wesley laughed at Glen's arrogant remark "That's the best part, you don't! But this is the only way for you to survive even if just a second longer. So are you going to accept it or not?"

Glen didn't take long to answer "I accept".

This was the only way they could escape from this place. He needed to kill Wesley first and then find out how he controlled those zombies. With that, he should be able to kill the men surrounding them and escape unscathed.

He was sure that the secret to controlling the zombies laid in the glowing tattoo at the back of Wesley's hand but was it really a tattoo? What if it's some kind of sticker that granted you control over the zombies?

Or maybe Wesley wore something like a necklace or a bracelet?

This wasn't the time for such thoughts. He needed to concentrate on the duel first.

Glen started to circle around this makeshift arena, his eyes didn't leave Wesley's face for a second. Most people were wrong to look at the opponent's guns in such a situation. You had to watch their shoulder. If you watched them take out the gun, that meant you were already too late!

*BA-DUMP*

As Glen's fingers tapped on the handle of his gun, his heart started to beat. It was such a sh*tty situation but he liked it. He liked this feeling that sprouted from his heart.

*BA-DUMP* *BA-DUMP*

From the cocky smile on Wesley's face, Glen could tell that he had no intention of making the first move. This crazy f*cker was planning to beat Glen in speed! This was good news.

*BA-DUMP* *BA-DUMP* *BA-DUMP*

Glen finally drew his gun. Watching Wesley's face, Glen knew that he wasn't even aware of the gun that was pointing towards his head yet. And he thought about beating Glen in speed? With this, his victory was all but guaranteed!

*BA-DUMP* *BA-DUM- *BANG*

Glen stumbled backwards and looked at his bright red chest. He couldn't hear the beat of his heart anymore.

He coughed up some blood.

"...How?"

Looking at Wesley that was pointing a gun towards him Glen couldn't help but ask.

This wasn't possible.

This speed wasn't humanely possible! He should have been able to blow his brains out, so how was it that he was the one that was shot!?

"Are you finally feeling the despair that I felt? Too bad. You should have just died at Rionel's Keep like a good dog you were. Maybe, you wouldn't be in such pain now. Hahaha. Wait, this time I won't make a mistake and make sure to finish the job properly."

As Wesley revelled in his victory he signalled his men to let the zombies go and they all rushed towards Glen like dogs that were starved for weeks.

While the world was going darker for him, the dumpster like smell rushed into Glen's nose and the pain soon followed. The zombies were eating him alive.

Seeing the zombies that tore off pieces of flesh from his body Glen felt aggrieved.

Just what did he do to deserve this?

He was innocent so why did he suffer such injustice?

He detested it. He was unwilling to die in such a way. He wanted to throw up his arms and smash their heads but he didn't have any strength to lift his arms anymore.

Even if it was just one of them, Glen was going to drag them down to hell with him!

So a rotten, slimy taste filled his mouth as Glen bit the neck of a zombie that was eating his face!

The next second the world was dyed in darkness...
