Glen felt like burrowing inside a hole in the ground.
Actually, this whole day was weird. If he were to describe it, it would be like his life used to be a tragedy but after meeting Ezekiel someone flipped a switch and his life suddenly became a comedy instead.
I mean think about it. First, he picks up a random kid who seems to already know who he is, then when he comes to a freshly raided town almost all the loot is already gone and lastly, the rope that seemed to be holding just fine suddenly ripped apart when he used it. Not to mention how his pants fell off just now.
Glen didn't care about it anymore. While the trio was looking at his underwear, he just silently dusted off the glass on him, bent down, pulled up his pants, buckled his belt again and rose his hands back up.
"*Ahem* Ugh, who are you and what you are doing here!?" asked the guy who spoke last time again.
Good, it seemed like everyone was on the same page and they were going to have a do-over.
"I am just your common looter, I came here to help" said Glen in a cool way to disperse the previous awkward air.
The guy frowned, he didn't seem to believe his story. So Glen decided to take advantage of his connection with Ezekiel.
"Look, I heard about this place from a kid called Ezekiel, who should be on the roof waiting for me right now"
"Ezekiel? Were you bringing him here?" asked Ms Wright.
"No, ma'am. I already knew you guys decided to sacrifice him due to the instigation from the church. Only reason I came here is because of them actually"
The second guy looked furious at the mention of the church's name.
"Are you working for those b*stards!!!" The second guy said calmly.
He seemed ready to shoot a bullet right through Glen's skull if he did so much as breath wrong.
"No, it's just that since he mentioned the church and there was a horde nearby I figured they would open the gates yesterday night" said Glen while shrugging his shoulders.
"You son of a wh*re! If you knew about it why didn't you warn us!" The second guy said and came towards Glen in a flurry.
He lifted up his rifle and tried to hit Glen with the stock.
Dodge!
Glen took a step back and let the stock pass by his face. Making use of this opportunity he pushed up the rifle even further up in the air and pulled out his Navy!
The second guy looked horrified!
However, as he said before he came here to help them.
So instead of blowing the guy's brains out Glen tripped him and grappled.
Their position suddenly became awkward. Glen was holding his navy to the guy's head while the other one didn't seem to understand what just happened.
Now that Glen had a hostage the talks should be faster.
However, Glen suddenly wanted to throw up. What was this retching smell coming from the guy? Hadn't he ever heard of something called showering?
Actually, now that he took a closer look at him this guy looked like a hobo.
Yellow rotten teeth, messy patched up clothes covered in black dirt, thin unhealthy hair, unkempt beard. Also, his breath smelled like cheap alcohol. Was he a miner?
"*Gag* Ugh, look I came here in peace. Can we just get this interrogation phase over with? I swear to god when was the last time you showered, I feel like throwing up" Glen said and turned towards his hostage.
"Yes, I think this farce has gone on long enough so how about we drop this, Mr Reyes?" said Ms Wright while smiling towards him. Was she on his side? Ezekiel seemed to like her, maybe this woman also liked Ezekiel. That certainly came in handy.
The first man, whose name was Mr Reyes, put down his gun and Glen immediately pushed away the miner who seemed disoriented with a kick.
Then he immediately went towards the window he just crashed through to breathe fresh hair.
*Inhale*
Even the air that carried a hint of rotten zombies' smell seemed better than that miner's.
"Ah, we should get Ezekiel from the rooftop. Where is the hatch? If there isn't one we can even use a ladder" said Glen as he turned towards them.
"Right, we should. We can also introduce each other as we make our way" said Ms Wright as she coddled the baby in her arms.
Glen wondered whose baby was it. Truth be told Ms Wright didn't seem like the mother of the baby... she seemed too young. I mean sure, she looked to be in her early twenties and people living at this age married early but this was just his gut feeling.
"Let me introduce myself. My name is Loretta Wright, this gentleman here is Joe Reyes and the one that you kicked is called Clifford Vaughn. What should we call you, sir?" She asked Glen as they climbed up the stairs.
Truth be told, Glen was actually uncomfortable with her manner of speech. For some reason, she gave him the feeling that she didn't belong here. If it was any other age he would have called her a blue blood but he didn't think nobles still existed in this day and age.
"Glen is fine"
"So, Mr Glen. You said something about coming to help but you must be aware that your stunt just now put us in serious trouble right?"
"That depends on the perspective actually, for one, even if I did not perform such a stunt, the zombies would still be surrounding this little hideout of yours. For the second, I can kill all of those zombies by myself" said Glen boasting about his skills.
Vaughn just scoffed at him. However, because of what just happened he didn't find it in himself to talk back.
"That's really big talk. I would rather if you just helped us get out of this retched place. That would be enough" she said while smiling.
Glen frowned. There was really something wrong with her but he couldn't put his finger on it. He didn't think he was having these feelings because she was too beautiful or something. There really was something otherworldly about her and he didn't like it.
Maybe a fellow perpetual reincarnator? Nah, the world or rather the universe was too big to chance upon one right in his first reincarnation.
If so what was it? What was it about her that bothered him so much?
"Mr Reyes, if you please?" Ms Wright said as Joe reached out to pull down the hatch.
They could already see Ezekiel's smiling face along with his hazel eyes.
"Ms Wright! You are okay!" he said and hugged her as soon as he jumped inside.
Yeah, Glen was okay too. Thank you for asking you ungrateful brat!
