Scarlet lay unconscious on the hospital bed. She had been connected to so many life support devices since the doctors claimed she was in a terrible state, meanwhile, her mind had returned to the plane Argus had told her about where chaos lords would meet. She had been sitting there for days? Weeks? She didn't know how time worked in this place. It was cold, dark, and empty a pure void of nothingness. She would shout for hours hoping it was chaos herself playing tricks with her like last time when she had just started the trial out of nowhere without a heads up.
The floor of this place would sometimes change from a pure glass to clear water occasionally which made no absolute sense to her. She wondered if Jack, Argus, and Alex were there on the hospital bed wondering what was going on with her. The truth is, even she didn't know what was going on with her. Her powers not working when she needed them and how she agreed that she wasn't cut out for this being a chaos lord! It sounded like a real pain in the ass. She wanted a normal life, but she chose Bolton of all universities… she was smart she could have picked Stanford or Harvard whatever school that didn't have a magical division or faculty.
"Hey."
She jumped from shock after hearing a male voice echo around the place. She raised both her hands and formed a ball of red energy in the center,
"Wha…. what…was that whose there? show yourself." She was terrified as she swung her head left, right, and rotated to see who that was.
The room changed instantly that Scarlet toppled forward and fell on her face into dry grass. The pain was unbearable and how could she feel pain if all this was in her head, "Sorry about that, let me help you up." A hand showed up from above her head helped pull her back on her feet,
"Thank you…" Scarlet realized that she was talking to someone and that she had been taken somewhere else that wasn't the void.
"You are welcome." he had a Mexican accent.
Scarlet looked at him, it was a teenage boy with very white short hair and beautiful white skin dressed in a black tuxedo, he had very green eyes and something about him reminded her of Leon Kay. She then looked around and saw they were going into a barn. The memory finally awoke in her mind. This was prom night her last day in high school, she remembered how much she didn't want to go that day, but her aunt insisted she would and dressed her up in a purple dress that had belonged to her mother but the off thing about all this was the boy she was with. She didn't remember going on a date that night.
"You look like you've seen a ghost Scarlet don't you remember me?" his voice was so pleasant and his smile was so full of life.
"I do… am so sorry Orcus." From nowhere that had flown out of her mouth, how did she know his name?
"Now you remember," he laughed, "We should get in before we miss the whole thing…are you nervous?"
She froze on that question because she remembered how that night went and how breaking it was, confessing her feelings to Jack and him shattering her by saying it's better if they remain as friends and that would make things even weirder. But that wasn't tonight she felt like she had a second chance and she had to celebrate it differently this time with Orcus.
"No am not." She held his hand as they both marched in.
They entered in to the sound of trap music and teenagers making a noise like no one was watching. She screamed with joy and pulled Orcus to the dance floor where everyone was and danced with him like nobody was watching her terrible dance moves.
For a slight moment, she was happy she had met Orcus, he had helped her turn back time and make her live one of the worst days of her life and make it a fun memory,
"Scarlet!" She heard Argus' voice call from a distance.
"Did you hear that?" she stopped dancing and asked Orcus.
"No, I did not. Did you? Something about his voice sounded so compelling.
"No, I did not." She replied, forgetting what had just happened, "Then let's continue our dance." Scarlet was starting to forget some things like what she was doing a few minutes ago before falling and Orcus helping her up. Something was off about him, she could see it in his face, but she just couldn't get what it was.
"The void," she said," I was in the void."
Time in the barn stopped and everyone who was in motion was now stationary.
Scarlet released her hand from Orcus' and after realizing that he wasn't supposed to be here,
"Who the hell are you?" She formed an energy ball in her hand and pointed it at him,
"That won't work on me am not even here." He wasn't threatened by her attack. "So, my sister chose you, huh… why am I not surprised by this."
"Your sister? Are you saying your — "?
"Order, yes, I am order." He said.
She stopped the attack and faced him, "I do not fear you if that's what you wanted." Orcus laughed at her random allegation, "No… no, dear not yet… right now I have a lot to discuss with you but I will save that for when you return to our world." He said.
"By the way, this is called the void only entities can come here. You are the first human I have seen my entire life, not only to come here but also resist my telepathic abilities and you still say you are not cut out for this." He had gone through her mind, "Scarlet, you're human…nothing is going to ever change that but you have this power to help other humans like you and still say you are not cut out for this. Over the early centuries, my sister and I fought our parents and won, but it was her idea to rebel against them, and ever since then I have never doubted my sister's champions whether good or bad never."
Scarlet stared at his green eyes and there wasn't a single once of deceit in them, she thought maybe it was because he was the lord of order that she felt that way but no…it was because she was connected to him somehow. She felt that he wasn't lying and meant everything that came out of his mouth.
"We need to be ready when he comes."
Both their eyes glowed, "We need to be ready when he comes." She said unknowingly like it was a reflex.
He waved his hand and cleared the illusion he had made from her mind. Scarlet looked as the joyous false memories vanished right before her eyes. And with that, he also vanished, leaving her alone once again but with something in her hand. A key, but to where. As she still was wondering what to do with the key she felt something inside her burn.
She fell on her knees and the floor turned to water. Her eyes turned red and her hair started to glow. The pain from burning within only started to grow even more. What is this? She asked herself and then suddenly it stopped abruptly.
She stopped struggling and lay in the water, facing the black sky. She sighed deeply from relief, then turned her head only to be frightened when she saw a human skull in the water.
She lunged from the water and looked around to see the pool was infested with human skulls and bones. Was this Orcus no this was the power itself. The floor shifted and it was covered in gray ashes with only bones filling up the entire field.
She had felt so terrified as she was right now, was this going to happen?.
The sky then opened up and a strong blow of wind blew it accompanied by the golden-colored lighting strikes that destroyed anything that moved. Above them was the person who controlled them. Scarlet couldn't see her properly, but she looked like an elf her eyes were glowing along with her body, she was resembling like that of the sun. At that moment while staring at the elf she felt the chaos in her grow more violent and meaning that was the one she had to stop.
A sword, then pulled out of the ground. Scarlet identified it as Argus' sword put the real one this time. It was whispering her name, calling for her to pick it up.
She moved forward and touched its handle.
She opened her eyes like she had just been pulled from a nightmare. She was in a hospital room and was connected to so many wires and tubes, one being even in her mouth. There was a feeling of fright after what she saw, but also a feeling of anger because she had seen the girl. Who was she? That was a question she would ask herself later. Right now, she had to find the sword and she knew exactly where to start. She then healed her entire body and pulled all the tubes and wires they had put on her body.
