Scarlet walked into Mr. Hayward's office who was in his seat reading through some papers that he had scattered throughout his table. She noticed he was in a squared long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up showing his muscular but hairy arms. And very brown trousers his coat on the coat rack at the entrance.
"Ummm good morning -professor Hayward my letter said that you will be assigning me a curriculum," she said. Hayward took one look at her then returned to his work and said, "Yes I will be in charge of what you study from now on. If you don't mind, please take a seat and spare me five minutes of your time.", she took acceptance in his polite request then sat on the chair that was just in front of his desk. She wondered why the headmaster's office had no door. Renovation maybe she could only visualize what happened.
"Have you ever heard of chaos?" Hayward started the conversation still busy with his paperwork. For her that was an odd question to ask considering she was attacked by the same entity not even a week ago but just days.
"Yes," she replied, "I used to read about how she led to the creation of chaos lords-"
"The most powerful beings to ever walk the earth as I have heard," he said jokingly as if it was so hard to believe even coming from his very mouth. Scarlet was still curious about this conversation, "Do know how chaos chooses her champions?" he asked.
"No.."
"Well in the usual case-" he stopped the second two women walked in. They were the same women who were at her interview. Last time scarlet had only seen one and noticed she was an elf but this time she confirmed that they were two elves that were beside him that day. Both in the same clothing army green jackets, pants of the same color, and white undershirts. They resembled each other from the face and body. but one had blue eyes and the other had bright green which was their only difference. Their presence was so strong it shifted the room's atmosphere to dense.
"Who these people?", she asked herself as they crossed her and directly to Professor Hayward and stood next to him. he stopped his reading and turned his attention to the two. One then bent and whispered in his ear something. He didn't seem to take it lightly but nodded in acceptance and relief.
He jumped from his seat and took his reading glasses off, "it's time for your first lesson. I have a class right now and I want you to join me." she didn't want to question but he did know she hadn't done magic her entire life.
"I know..... you've never done magic but this class is for special mages like you." He took the words directly from her mouth, "you passed the test and that makes you ready enough Scarlet. Now follow me."Hayward then walked out leaving the two women who did nothing but look at her. Were they like his bodyguards or something else? She was still fascinated by their presence.
She followed Hayward through the school compound to a building that was in the middle of the campus. It was a huge brown structure and looked like it had been constructed recently. They both then entered it, Scarlet being eager to see this special class the professor had spoken of.
He entered a lecture room but Scarlet couldn't follow any further because of her nerves. She could feel her voice and hands shake
"good morning class." Hayward announced on entering, "I apologize for the late coming. I had to pick on a new student for this class. Miss Scarlet please step in." he called.
She then slowly strolled in trying to avoid looking at the rest of the class. And stood aside Mr. Hayward facing down to the bottom.
Then lifted her head to the class. They were nine students three of them being Jack, Alex, and Jordan.
Alex looked so shocked and as for Jack, his eyes were widely staring at her in disbelief, and Jordan, he just couldn't believe what he was looking at.
"I expect you to treat her as one of your own."The class remained, "Go on take your seat."He said. Scarlet then took the honor of climbing up the stairs to sit where her friends were.
On settling next to them Alex and Jack still said nothing.
"Well, aren't you going to congratulate me on advancing to your class so fast? And I need to know why has Alex been ghosting me," she whispered to the both of them. They still said nothing.
"Alright, the silent treatment okay if that's how you wanna play it cool." they still said nothing.
She looked around and noticed the entire class was in a pause, she stood from the seat and it was true the room was on pause it appeared they were in a time freeze and she was unaware since she was unchanged.
Kendell and Kyle were also standing and seemed aware of the time freeze. she hadn't noticed the two nightmares were also part of her special class.
"Heyyy, am Kendell," the girl shouted from the other side of the room, "we are in a time freeze Mr Hayward created, only strong magic users can escape it." for a serious-looking nightmare she was so calm and friendly. Scarlet couldn't see clearly but she could sense that her presence was off the charts. explains why she and her brother were still moving. but how come she also was moving.
The air began to feel thick from the effects of time manipulation it was now hard for Scarlet to breathe, she had never been in such a circumstance where time was on a freeze. Alex and Jack broke from the spell at the same time and noticed that Scarlet was next to them. Ahe was now fighting for air.
"Scarlet?" Jack noticed she wasn't comfortable, "Oh you guys are free Mr Hayward put a spell on us and time is all freezing blah blah." she yawned since she was extinguishing magical power even faster,
"Wait, when did you get out of the spell?" Alex asked, "I didn't, I just wasn't affected."
Alex was so fascinated by what she was hearing was Scarlet more than a mage.
Hayward finally broke the spell and everything was back to normal. "For those who didn't notice, I performed a time spell that put everyone here on pause for thirty minutes and it seems only five of you can break out of it. So due to that matter am teaching what we did last week. Time manipulation and resistance." he said, then snapped his fingers and conjured up a book. The Same book then appeared on each student's lap,
"open page fifteen and we start the day's secession." he said.
***************************************
Miranda was at the police station, it had been hours and she trying to analyze what had happened with Rachel's murder. She had gone through photos and forensic evidence which proved yes it was murder because her neck had been viciously sliced by a sword or a knife as it was said by the report. Maybe she was seeing it wrongly maybe it needed her to dig further since it had chaos involved and knew where to start. She packed her badge and car keys.
"Am heading to Rachel's apartment. I need you to inform the detectives am heading." She mention to her subordinates who were still in the office. Then walked out of the station to her car. She drove steadily through the city before she reached her destination, a building that wasn't So far from the library. moved out of the car and took steps closer to a building that was surrounded by police tape that read "Do not cross". Miranda touched the tape and broke the barrier that surrounded it then teleported directly to the apartment.
It was very normal by the look of things it was as if no murder even happened. She touched the ground maybe she could picture how the murder must have happened but nothing resulted.
"Then it's a mage that killed her," she noted. She walked into the living room which was small but quite efficient for a person like Rachel Sandra. It was a television a couch and a short table. She continued her investigation till she reached the bedroom where she confirmed the murder. The walls were stained with blood. And so were the bedsheets which proved the vicious murder description in the police file.
(SUDDENLY A STRANGE KNOCKING STARTED WITHIN THE WALLS) and she sensed a heavy and dense presence within the room. She moved closer to the walls on hearing. One hand on her back with a fire spell just to be safe. She had always been fearless as a cop.
The knocking then stopped abruptly and the room turned chilly weakening her fire magic.
"You're not supposed to be here Miranda." a woman appeared from behind. Her body completely glitching trying to hold onto the mortal plane.
"Stay the hell away from me," Miranda yelled throwing a blast at the woman. Which she easily deflected by simply placing her hand in the way, her eyes glowed red as she supercharged her attack, "Don't involve yourself in this witch." then fired a BLAST so strong that it sent Miranda flying from the apartment straight into her vehicle.
The woman then teleported right in front of her. She seemed curious about Miranda who was bleeding even after placing a defence spell, "This is the power of chaos. Not even a mage as powerful as you can stop what's coming Miranda. I must awaken." Miranda didn't know if that was a warning or a compliment.
"So you killed the human." Miranda asked, "Why would I kill the human she was host someone else did it-" her body glitched inflicting more pain on her slowly becoming less tangible, "the elves separated me from my host and killed her slowing down my awakening." she spoke angrily.
Miranda pulled herself from the car and said, "Am done yet Chaos. It takes more than one blast to take me down," her eyes were now replenished with rage which unlocked bloodlust summoning a steel sword in her left hand.
"Bloodlust," Chaos smiled, "you mages will pay for killing my children and when I awaken we will just burn this world and its warlocks."
"Be my guest," she spoke confidently at the drive of bloodlust. She had to go all out to win this fight.
It was in broad daylight but luck for her they were and almost everyone evacuated so she had no reason to hold back on this entity.
