Chereads / CHAOS AWAKENING / Chapter 11 - Scarlet's first quest

Chapter 11 - Scarlet's first quest

Leon was on the balcony staring at the beautiful mountains of Switzerland.

It was a Tuesday evening and the sunset was as beautiful as ever, he had always been a fan of the sunset ever since his wife passed away, she always loved to watch the sunset. And so in memory of her, he would watch the sunset in the most beautiful places in the world using his magical teleporting house.

Miranda suddenly walked up to him, "You should stop inviting ladies by sending a butler to do your dirty work."

"Your late Miranda," he sounded serious.

"I'm sorry, I did not know your mansion had taken us to Switzerland. I was still timing myself using the New York time zone," she replied.

She then joined him on the balcony as they both now stared at the sunset.

"What did you want to talk about?" She quickly jumped to the point, and her mood then entirely shifted from cheerful to serious.

Leon took a second of awkward silence, then turned to her and asked, "Is Scarlet your late sister's daughter?"

Miranda was confused by his question, she smirked and answered by saying, "Of course, she is my sister's daughter. From blood to looks, she even acts like us."

Leon looked around suspiciously to make sure no one was tapping on their conversation. He then faced her again once he was sure they were the only ones here at the moment.

"I doubt that," he said,

"Why?"

She was now starting to think Leon was now crazy. He looked delusional as he spoke.

"Do not call me crazy when I say this, but I think Scarlet is related to the Lords of Chaos one way or another. The way Jack described it, I think she's the possible key to awaken chaos and restore balance."

Miranda couldn't pick up because of the excitement and energy Leon used in his speech. It sounded like he was rapping to her.

"Slow down. What the hell did Jack describe?" She asked, "and slow down this time."

Leon's face suddenly turned numb as he prepared to speak naturally.

"I don't have to get into detail, but you've seen it too, Scarlet is too powerful to be left to wander around like some kid, most of the world fears power, and the remaining ones want it so they will stop at nothing till they have it even though it means killing her."

He glanced at the sunset once again and let the light hit his middle-aged face. He was thousands of years old and the weird part was that he looked younger than most men in their eighties.

Miranda knew that all this was just the beginning. Her mind was now clouded with thoughts and since Scarlet was now okay, it only felt scarier after what Leon had just talked about.

"I fought Chaos." she finally let the cat out of the bag.

Leon quickly faced her in shock, "You fought what?",

"You've heard me, Chaos. There was a case about a murdered woman by the name of Rachel Sandras the same woman who attacked Scarlet under the influence of Chaos," she said. "Her throat had been cut out and they had snapped her neck, a technique that slows down a human when trying to heal themselves with magic..."

She paused for a bit, remembering the fear Chaos had inserted in her.

"Are you okay?"

Leon was concerned after seeing her fingers shaking ever since she began talking about the incident.

"Yes, I'm fine." she continued, "When I arrived at the apartment, I met Chaos who confessed she had no intentions of killing Rachel and she was her host and had that they were attacked by two elves with swords-."

"Wait, elves! With the pointed ears...like in the stories?"

Miranda nodded.

"Impossible," Leon couldn't believe what he had just heard come from Miranda's mouth.

"That's what she said, apparently."

Leon then relaxed in order to hear more of what she had to say, "I fought Chaos using blood rage to hold her off-"

"For how long?" he muttered this time sounding worried, but she didn't answer. She instead looked also at the sunset with a deep frown on her face.

"Too long I see," he said after reading the mood on her face. "Did you at least see a doctor?"

"I was going to, but Jack came up to me with the atrocious news on Scarlet so I had to leave the hospital and come here to the mansion. Only to see she had just used magic recklessly," Miranda said.

Mages weren't supposed to use blood rage since it drained a mage's life force directly from the soul and was reserved for near-death situations and nothing more than that, the longest one could use it before dying was precisely three minutes, but Miranda had used it for five putting herself  in a tough situation to survive,

"Go on," Leon demanded,

She had lost a trace of thought for a second,

"Oh, she just let me off and vanished." She chose to leave out the reality alteration part and the sudden appearance of a boy with a spellbook in his hand.

"If that's the case, I think Chaos wants to awaken and if she was honest about the elves, I need to research on that. In the meantime, I suggest you stay here till we figure out what is going on.".

He didn't at all mention Scarlet's awakening or the possibility of her being a chaos lord, he thought he had said enough.

Later...

Scarlet stood from exhaustion, her clothes were fully soaked as if she had jumped into a pool clothed. Alex and Jack were standing straight at a far distance, watching her fail and giggling and gawking at her misery. Alex was even holding a bag of chips as she watched.

"I'm so fucking tired guys!" she cried. "I have been trying to jump for..."

She stopped talking after feeling something come up her throat. She was about to throw up, she then bent over with both her hands holding on to her knees, trying to catch some air.

It had been precisely three days since they landed in Switzerland and she had been learning how to control her magic with the help of her aunt and Leon. She was getting a hang of some spells and most of them, she was learning too fast.

But right now she had asked Alex and Jack to help her out with learning to jump, a form of teleportation or spatial magic that was common to the twins.

Jumping was only different from teleportation in the way that one could go anywhere you wanted, unlike teleportation where you had to have been in a place physically to reach there. Jumping was difficult because of the magical energy it drained from a person.

They had taken a far distance from her and had put together an anchoring spell that let her return to the same point she started jumping so that she doesn't get lost. But after hours and like one hundred attempts, she had still failed to jump in the required locations.

She jumped to places like Antarctica, Sweden, Colombia, China, and some she couldn't even remember, right now she was from the bottom of the Indian ocean. And before she could drown or die, the anchor spell acted like a restart button taking her back to her starting point only that this time she was wet.

"Given up yet? It's almost morning you know!" Jack yelled from afar.

"Or you still think jumping is too easy?" Alex added while crushing down her chips with a smug on her face.

Scarlet looked at the both of them and gave up, "Nope, it's not." she panted, slowing down her breathing.

"Awesome now we can teach you," Alex said cheerfully before they both sauntered away,

"We start when you ready," said Jack, and continued walking away with his sister.

Later that day...

Scarlet was now in her room after taking a warm bath with towels on her body and hair, her lenses were off and her eyes were still very red.

She picked up her phone and checked for the news, it reported that she and her aunt had gone missing after an explosion at their apartment. According to reports, it was a gas explosion but they never even had gas for a week.

Leon assumed someone was trying to kill her aunt.

All of this left her with so many questions unanswered, it was giving her a headache. She then lay on her bed facing the ceiling and focused on the lights. She glared at them for long before she  was drawn into another memory.

Leon had explained that she could access the memories of all the Chaos lords before her and the reason why she could do so was still unclear, but she found it very intriguing and exciting at some point.

It seemed like she was in a castle looking at the candles above her being held by the chandelier. In this memory, she was practicing magic in her room, creating something that looked like tiny magical holograms of horses each running in mid-air.

She was so amazed by the display as the horses ran around the entire room till she faced the mirror and all the fun stopped at first glance. She was looking through one of Agatha's memories because after looking in the mirror, she noticed that she was Agatha in the mirror a younger and different  Agatha, but she was still sense how powerful she was at such a young age.

She had brown braided hair and beautiful brown eyes that sparkled elegantly from the light.

"You're not supposed to be here, Scarlet!" the reflection spoke.

Scarlet gasped as if someone how spooked up on her without noticing it. "How did you know my name? you're just a-"

"Memory I know, but I'm also an extension of Agatha's knowledge of magic. I'm here to warn you about the war of the worlds."

Scarlet was confused, she took a few steps back away from the mirror," The war of the what now."

"There is a great threat coming, you need to find Argus," Agatha continued,

"Wait, I don't know where Argus is. If you mean the kid, he vanished and said he will find me,"

She tried to explain to the memory. But all it did was look at her without saying  anything else like a program or recorded message.

"I'm sorry, but I don't have enough time..."

The room started shaking out of the blue as if an earthquake was transpiring in the background. Scarlet tried to keep on her feet, but she failed to do that when she found herself losing balance and falling.

It stopped for a minute before a stronger quake followed  causing the chandelier to fall  from the roof and setting the bed ablaze, she heard the screams of people coming from outside.

"What's going on out there?" she asked the memory. It looked terrified as cracks started to spread across the mirror surface at a fast rate.

"This is what will happen to your world if don't find the boy and revive Chaos. There is no balance. Balance must be restored to the multiverse."

*Snap!*

The mirror exploded, and she opened her eyes with a start as if she had just awoke from a nightmare. she checked herself and she was back to reality and she was herself again.

The memory's voice was still echoing in her head telling her to go find Argus a boy she just met days ago.

".."

she heaved out  a loud sigh of frustration.

'This is bullshit.'
