In my confusion, I glare at him, "Dude stop... he didn't exactly make his claim." I spoke clearly.
"How did he not stake his claim, aren't you his girl now? He told me you were his girl for the foreseeable future and you agreed to it!" he says furiously.
I let out a small sigh. "Sam, he asked me to pretend to be his girlfriend. Then he told me that while I am pretending to be his girl, I cannot start any type of relationship with anyone else. That's why he told you that." I comforted him, trying to let him know that I was only pretending.
"So what you mean is that there are no serious feelings between you two? You don't really like him...huh?" I could see the hope glow in his eyes. I couldn't understand what was happening. It was almost like these two men had never seen a beautiful girl before.
"Sam, this is all so confusing!" I sigh deeply.
"He can be very confusing!" he chuckles.
"You can say that again!" I said as I finally sat down in the seat he offered me when he started all this.
"Here," he says as he slides a plate of food over to me. "Eat up and then we'll be on our way." I nod and quickly accepted the plate of food. I pour some syrup on my waffle and dig in. The waffle was really good and I love sausage more than bacon or ham, so I was in heaven here.
After we finish eating, he hands my empty plate to one of the people working in the kitchen and then takes my hand and leads me down the hall, towards Milo's office, knocking lightly on the door while he waits for him to open it. When he opens the door, Sam pulls me inside and closes the door softly before turning and facing Milo with a serious expression on his face. "What in the hell are you doing here Milo, you cannot play with a girl's heart like this and expect everything to be okay! I will not permit you to play with this girl's heart like this, I will not want damaged goods as much as the next man out there. So either you claim her officially or I do, no more games!" he growls as he crosses his arms in front of his chest, staring his boss in the eye.
"I'm not playing with this girl Sam, she knows exactly what's going on and has even agreed to it... haven't you?" he asked, turning his furious gaze to me. I felt I had to agree with him on everything he said.
"He is right Sam, I know exactly what is going on here." I cried softly, uncertain about what had just happened. "Plus Milo told me that if I did this then I would earn double the amount every day," I said, still unsure.
I watch as Sam fills with rage and turns towards Milo, "Oh, I see... you just pay for her services like she's a prostitute?" he growls. As he clenched his fists together, I began backing away slowly as I didn't want to be a target of his fury.
I watched as Milo's eyes grew darker as he stared back at Sam, "What, No... who told you I would sleep with her? The worst thing that can happen is she may have to kiss me."
"A Kiss or two... and you don't think you might have to do more than that?" Sam growls. I couldn't help it, I had to say something to get these two to stop.
"Stop it, Sam, I agreed to do this for Milo." I snap at him. I wasn't prepared for what happened next.
Sam turned his fury on me, "YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO WITH ALL OF THIS NAOMI!!!" I see a blur come in front of me before I focus on Milo's back. He was standing right in front of me.
"STOP IT RIGHT NOW SAM, YOU'RE NOT TO SHOUT AT HER LIKE THAT... " I heard him yell back at Sam and I couldn't hold back the tears from falling down my face as I backed away from both of them. If things escalated to a shouting match like that at home, I knew I was in for it. I didn't want anything like that from these two guys.
"Naomi..." I heard Sam soften his voice, and I flinched away from his hand as he reached out toward me. I wanted to run and hide from them. They were both physically bigger than my Dad and could easily harm me. I did not want them to hit me out of their anger, as my father did from his.
"Naomi... it's okay. I'm not going to hurt you." I heard Milo's soft voice, but I continued to turn away from him.
"Milo, this girl has been abused before!" Sam's angry tone pierced the air.
"What? What do you mean Sam?"
"The way she's acting right now, how she's trying to hide from us. How she flinched away as we reached for her." Sam growls loudly. "She's been hit before, that I'm sure of. How much do you bet me dear old dad did the hitting?" Sam asks.
"Oh, that f*cking Ass wipe... I should've known, I'm so sorry Naomi! First the wife and then her, I am getting pretty tired of cleaning up his messes." Milo spoke in frustration, and I snapped my face in his direction.
"W-what... what are you talking about?" I ask softly through my tears. I can hear the soft 'What' come from Sam as well.
"Okay, Okay, let me tell you both some things. First of all, the disgusting man sold me the wife; her mother." Milo pointed towards me with a sneer, as if he was ashamed to tell me this. "When he sold me her, I wasn't going to do it again, so I went to that meeting spot to kill him. But when I saw her behind the wheel, I had to hear him out. I told him it wasn't normal for me to purchase a second family member after buying her, so I wouldn't be doing it again. I know he has two more daughters who are younger than Naomi, but seriously what kind of man sells his family off piece by piece?" he growls.
I furrow my brows furiously at him, "Wait... where's my mom?"
I watched as he turned his attention back to me, his eyes filled with sorrow. I felt bad for even asking him the question, but I really needed to know where she was. It was the only hope I had of saving Lydia and Kendra from my fate. "I am sorry, Naomi, but your mother isn't here," he said softly.
"Then where is she, Milo?" I snapped at him demanding an answer. My heart pounding inside my chest as I stood my ground.
"I sold her." he dropped his face and stared down at the ground as if he was ashamed of what he did.
"What?"
"You sold her mother Milo? To whom?" Sam demanded, staring him directly in the face as he demanded an answer from him.
I watched as he glared at Sam, then glancing in my direction he whispers. "I sold her to the Greys."
"What?"
"You mean she's there now, in that house?" I ask in shock. I was just there last night; how did I not know how close I was to my own mother?
He gulps down some air before responding, "That's what I mean." I stare at him with tears running down my face. I wanted to find my mother most of all, so I could get myself and my sisters out of that house, away from that scumbag we call Dad. "Naomi... I gotta tell you something. I didn't plan on doing it ever again, not from him anyways. Once per family is my limit, but seeing you there and knowing he has two other daughters. I don't know, I made a split-second decision and made the trade, and when I brought you here I knew I needed to make another decision. Because I didn't want any problems, I sold her as a maid to the Greys, as I knew they would take good care of her. I didn't want to do it, but I had to. I didn't want you to see her and get some idea. You were ultimately the one I wanted to keep, not her!" I glanced up into his face, tears already streaming down my cheeks. My eyes were red and I knew I had red patches all over my face. Looking into his eyes, I could tell that he was telling the truth.
"Did you know that I've been searching for my mother since my father told me that she ran away? He told us, girls, that she didn't want us or life with him, and she disappeared just like that. I knew deep down that wasn't the case, as my mom loved all of us girls more than anything in the world." I sniffle out.
"I know... she would talk about you girls all the time! You and her twins." he sighed.
"Really?"
"Let's talk to the Greys and get her back Milo, it might help Naomi in this!" Sam growls out at him. "You should have told me the truth about why you ended up getting rid of your favorite maid."
"Sorry Sam, I didn't want anyone to know about it. You all know about my one-member rule, so I had to keep it a secret," he says then softens his tone. "I'll see what I can do about getting her back!"
"Thank you, Milo, shall we get going?" I ask Sam. "I need to go get this wardrobe so that I can do the job you want me to do. I hope I do a good job of pretending to be your girl." I send him a soft smile.
"I'm ready, let's get going," Sam responds. "I still don't like this at all, but I'll take you shopping. I know Milo doesn't trust anyone else but me with you!" he beams brightly.
"Oh, is that why you're always around me?" I ask teasingly.
"Yes Naomi, that's why," Milo says smiling at me. "Sam is my most trusted man; I trust him with my life and please believe me when I say this, I don't trust easily. Sam, make sure that she has a decent-sized wardrobe, money is no issue!"
"Yes, sir." Sam stands up straight and smiles briefly at Milo. He then turns and motions for me to follow him. I follow him out of the house, back to the SUV we drove yesterday. I watch as he holds my door open, and climbing in I ask...
"Where are we going?"
He shuts the door without answering and I watch as he walks around the vehicle to the driver's side and climbs behind the wheel. Turning the key in the ignition, I hear the truck roar to life, and then watch as he pulls out of the driveway. "We are going to the Mall in Taylorsville, which is the next biggest mall in the area and it is far enough away from here that I do not expect to run into anyone you know."
"Okay, how long is the drive?" I ask him, suddenly interested.
I watch as he takes off down the road, "We will be there in two hours."
"Sounds like fun!" I reply sarcastically.
"Oh yeah! So fun! I love car rides." He says, flashing me a pearly white before turning his attention back to the road in front of him.
"Why?"
"Well because it is simple, uncomplicated, and relaxing, to tell the truth. It is the best part of life, driving calms me," he responds to my question.
"Okay..."
"What? You don't believe me?" he asks while looking at the road.
"No... I believe you, I just think it bizarre." I reply staring out the window as he climbs on the freeway and heads out of town.
