My legs were moving on autopilot. The feeling having left them and a numb static feeling took over as blood began to struggle to supply oxygen to the ligaments.
My shoulders began to stiffen as the knots continued to twist themselves and grow larger and larger. It had only been an hour and it had felt like a day had passed before I saw a barricade.
I jumped for joy inside as I saw it and I set the gurney down. I ran down and ran towards it. As I approached I began to survey the area around me. I then saw a intersection about 200 meters ahead of me. It felt like I had cleared it in an instant. I looked down the road and could see the wall and guard towers that were there over looking the base.
I turned back and sprinted as fast as I could to the gurney. Filled with a new wave of inspiration and hope I ran the rest of the way.
I got back to the intersection with the gurney and all my supplies digging onto my shoulders and back. I walked towards the base and I stopped. I couldn't hear a single sound coming from within the base. Not a single cow mooing or pig squealing. I set the final 20 meters and knocked on the base door.
I shouted out, "Hello! Hey can someone grab Yaromir, Yemelyan or Venedikt? I did it and I need my Volga back!" I waited, I couldn't hear a soul, it was the same eerie feeling as when I first went against the Bukavec.
