The way Morty knew how to handle new faces was, as he considered it, a gift from the divine. He knew exactly what to say to people that he was just getting introduced to. He would study the place that he was in or the place that the new faces came from. His or her stages of energy and the final judgement : what were the things that easily affected that person. So when he met John, Wendy and Sarah for the first time, it was clearly an optimal solution that the only thing that bothered them to their cores was even talking about their parents. So he would often joke around with them regarding the cuts and bruises on their appendages, that they so desperately tried to cover up. This was going the same way. When he saw through the peephole, he could see exactly the time to which the officer belonged to. He had a no-beard, only mustache facial feature with a very mediocre jawline and an almost bald hairline. The cop was however dressed as formally as for a new job interview. So Morty quickly ripped off his trousers and threw them on the floor, now he was only standing in his britches.
He was already irritated with the way he was acknowledged. 'Why do people of other preferences have to be so loud', he thought. He took a quick drone-look of the room and then he proceeded.
"May I come in, kid?", he said.
Morty tucked his arms. " Well, yes sir. Such a fine looking fella like is all we needed, right honey?", he shouted and winked.
Morty waited for Vijay's voice but it didn't come. 'The phone', he concluded in his head.
The cop neglected Morty's remarks and said, "You alone kid?", as he sat down on their bed.
Morty replied, "No sir, me and my boy V. He's right their in the loo. Could fetch him if you need him right now.", as he stood by the lamp to protect it from the cop's view.
The cop was visibly distasteful towards his remarks. He said, "Ah well, a mother reported two bank robbery accomplices to their own child present in the vicinity so be careful...", he got up," So what are you two here for? Texas ain't no place for stayin' at motels.", as he walked up to the sink.
Morty said," Well we are here for a night of privacy...", he said while pointing towards the trousers, "if you know what I mean. The society, you know?".
The officer nodded. He stood silent for a second and knocked on the bathroom door, as all three of them heard the loud cackle of the loose hood of car and the screeching of tires outside.
Morty knew exactly who it was. He called out," Ah officer, if you could just check on my friend in the bathroom. His stomach is bleeding. I think my brother is here, I'll go get him.". Before the officer could ask, Morty was out the door. So he started calling out towards the loo.
"Kid, you in there?", he asked while knocking.
Vijay shouted from inside." Yes, I have this unbearable pain in my stomach. Officer, could you get the pills from the stand beside the bed. The one holding the lamp."
The cop gave an "ok" and moved slowly towards the stand. As soon as Vijay heard receding footsteps, he grabbed hold of the black bag that contained a few pieces of jewelry, unlike the loaded ones back in the park. He removed the belt from the underside and tiptoed out from the bathroom door and when he saw the cop leaning into the stand and its drawers, he dashed towards the main door. He flung the door open, threw the bag out and held it shut, while Morty came up the steps with the key in hand. As they were locking the cop in, the door started to shake with all the knockings from the officer.
Before they could hear him swear or curse, they were on their way to the car. They climbed in while their contact appeared with a spike in hand, running away from the cop's sedan. She climbed in and was about to introduce herself, when Vijay said," Hey, I'm Vijay. You are late and lets get going...." as he turned towards Morty.
She said," Remember. The plan's easy, hijo. Get your samples checked from my source and I can bring your friends the day after tomorrow, just make sure they're hidden till then."
Vijay nodded and turned towards Morty again.
He said," Tell me you didn't drop your id's back there."
Morty laughed and produced his purse from the back of his britches. He said," And its el passaporte. We're Mexicans now, baby!". As he started whistling and tooting, their car switched gears and started accelerating away from the motel.
