Blood rushed to the skin on her face as the beatings kept on coming but she could now hear a voice calling her name. "Sarah", then with a shout "Sarah", then it got louder "Sarah" and then she opened her eyes. Her vision was blurry, it was focusing on the figure standing above her, but slowly. She stretched out her arm and Vijay pulled her up, clutching his own neck in the process. Sarah got up on her feet, staggering and looking around, holding to Vijay as her human-crutch. She turned around to look at the truck, both of the bags were already loaded on it. She turned to see the store-guard clutching his left hand and laying his head on Michelle's lap. Then she Michelle heard crying and shouting to them, " I'll handle the cops and Keith, get going. Just tell Morty to get me my fair share." They nodded and started staggering towards the car.
They both remembered the plan. Vijay got in and started the engine with his shaking fingers. Sarah winced in pain as she got in the back of the car and started undressing and getting into the backup pair they both had brought. Vijay accelerated the car out onto the highway. By the time they could hear the sirens, they were at full speed heading towards civilization. Sarah climbed onto the front seat, seeing that the whole highway was empty. Vijay asked while speeding, " No traffic, as usual for night. How are you?" She replied, " The face hurts and the neck, but yeah better than your bleedin' ear." Vijay raised his eyebrows. " Damnit. I almost forgot about it.", he said and turned right. She reached her left hand towards his face and caressed it. Vijay had thought about this moment, about when he would rescue his love from her parents who beat her and her siblings everyday. They wouldn't even talk to anybody at college, until Sarah, who was a junior, cried her hearts out when Morty and Vijay confronted her one day. But who were they to judge her, well with the orphanage being there parents and all. So when she touched him today, he froze and a single tear fell down his cheeks, which he quickly wiped off. They were at the exit point now, he took into the off-road by the second exit. They both got off. and Vijay started laying on the plan for both of their nervous minds. " I take one of the bags and bury it in the park and I take the other bag with me to.....", he was cut off by Sarah's " I remember". He continued, " And you go the safehouse and wait for your brother and sister while we...", and was again cut off by Sarah's "I remember. We're here. We're free."
Now Vijay stopped talking, bowed down his head and slowly turned from the car to her face. Her eyes were watery and tears fell down her cheeks. She thumped on Vijay's chest and tried to push him back and kept on beating his chest until he caught her wrists. "Two whole weeks, we can go away right now. Right now! Leave everything, everyone.", she squealed. She jerked his hands off and started walking away when he grabbed her by her right hand and pulled her towards him and kissed her. She leaned up towards him but not my much because she doesn't need to. She grabbed him by his collars and started to melt into the kiss and pushed him onto the truck. Both of their faces were as heated up as they anticipated each other's to be. Her hands were in a hurry. She started unbuckling his belt. His hands were shaking as he put them on her hips. He pulled her away and spoke "Soon". She stated "No!". He pulled her away again and said at higher voice " Soon, not now!". She looked at him and slapped him. Choking on her tears, she started walking towards a small town whose lights could be seen faintly from now. Vijay dropped down on his knees leaning on the car, crying. He got up, kicked the dirt, kicked the car and then got into it. He started the engine and turned it around onto the highway and started towards the park where he would have to stuff one bag and then he would have to quickly catch the train going out. As he rode off, he could see her in the rearview : head bowed, hooded up, probably crying as she walked off into the fading moonlight. He wiped his tears and punched the glass until his knuckles started bleeding.
