Chapter 59 - Today Was His Birthday

James thanked the man and went ahead to the next house, at the same time trying to get the cat's owner's name from the cat's brain. "Food is ready…... chime the be…... don't scratch on the couch…... Ms and…."

The cat's thought was filled with random memory from all its time with the owner. He even got some half, very blurred images, but could not fully discern the face of the person. One thing he knew though was that the owner was a young female, according to the outline of the blurred image from the cat's brain.

"So, I just have to find a young woman with the name 'And'. Alright, we are going somewhere" James said and knocked into another house. The person that answered the door was a tall masculine man, which automatically denied the cat.

James brought out his smartphone, which already had so much notification from the freelance website, which was about review notification and other added requests from clients. James did not have the time to answer those, so he ignored it and checked the time.

"It's 08:33 am, I must be late for school," James said without any fear or shock. He quickly ran over to his home and pushed the door open, but he was taken aback. The Harts were not in a haste at all. In fact, she was in the kitchen cooking breakfast, John was reading from his tablet, with a cup of coffee on the table, while Esther and the kids were playing virtual cards from their smartphones.

James subconsciously checked his smartphone again, and then realized it was a Sunday. James nodded slightly and headed to his room. As if on a cue, Martha came out of the kitchen, and upon seeing James with a cat, could not help but ask.

"Where did you get that cat, James?" Martha asked with a scrutinizing eye. James looked back at her eye and replied. "I saw it outside while I was trimming the porch. It was lonely and afraid, so I decided to keep it close to me till dawn."

"Wait, the cat was inside the house throughout the whole night? What if the owner was looking for it?" John asked as he looked up from his tablet. "I have asked the neighbours from fifteen houses down that road, but no one seemed to know who the owner of the cat was" James replied.

"That cat cannot stay in this house. Please take that thing out" Martha interjected. "Aww, is it a cat? Let me touch it" Anthony said as she jumped off the dining chair and headed to James to hold the cat, but Martha stopped him.

"No Anthony, you can't. You don't know where this cat came from, so it's best not to touch it, as it may come from a filthy place. James, take this thing out of this house right now!" Martha ordered with cold eyes.

James could not do anything but take the cat outside, but he did not leave it to wander around. Instead, he put the cat in a small hole created by the branches of the plants on the porch. "Hold on catty, I'll be coming with food right now," James whispered to the cat as he placed it inside the hole. Thankfully, the cat was compliant.

He then entered the house and to his room, but his surprise, he found his room had undergone a bit of transformation. His study desk was not here anymore, a twin bed was added in replacement to the desk, and the posters he placed on the wall was missing, his rug was not near his bed.

James could not help but walk out of the room and headed to the kitchen. He saw Martha making breakfast. He approached her and asked, "Aunt Martha, I don't understand why my bedroom looked like that."

Martha did not look up from what she was doing. "Now the room is not yours anymore James, as you can see, things are really difficult. Esther and Nicolas are already sharing the same room, which is not supposed to be so, considering that she's a girl, so I decided to let Nicolas be your roommate" Martha said and waited for James' response.

To her surprise, James nodded and left the kitchen, not the reaction she was hoping for. She was hoping for James to become sad and sulked to his room, but James was strangely calm like he had no emotions.

James headed to his room to understand the new arrangement of his newly refurbished room. Thankfully, all the stuff was kept inside the shoe section of his wardrobe, albeit roughly. He approached there and searched for his toy robot, and he found it there. He also found his laptop but in a bad shape.

The laptop was roughly packed along with his school bags, which was thrown into the wardrobe. The pointy compasses that were on the bag pierced the screen of his laptop, causing the laptop to display multi-coloured lines. It was also placed at an awkward angle, making the laptop appear bent and damaged.

"Who could have done this, and how much time did they have to arrange this?" Of course, James knew who the person was, but he was not angry. He just gently brought out his laptop and placed it on his bed. Sure enough, it was broken. The hinge was not able to support the screen anymore, as it fell on the bed, along with some of the keys of the laptop.

Thankfully, James had the money to fix, and even better, replace the laptop altogether. He had already made a full backup a few hours before, so he was not worried about all the data that was stored there. He brought out his credit card from the child wallet his mum bought for him as a joke. He planned to go to the electronic store to purchase a better laptop and accessories he might need.

James ruffled his wardrobe until he found a cloth that was appropriate for him to wear, placed them on the bed, and proceeded to the bathroom. After bathing, James went back to his room to prepare himself, and a few minutes later, he was up and ready to go out.

He passed the sitting room, where the entire family stayed and performed various activities. James approached Martha, who was placing the plates and spoon in the dining. "Aunt Martha, I would be going to the electronics store to buy a few things, so I'll be back by 10" James informed her, but Martha acted like she didn't hear him.

James turned his telepathy and repeated his questions, but before he could finish, Martha rudely cut him off. "I didn't tell you I was deaf, if you want to, you can go," she said slightly angry. 'And hopefully not come back' she thought, which James heard crisp and clear.

James nodded slightly and left the house. Then something popped up in his mind, and he smiled wryly.

Today was his birthday.
