Chapter 65 - There's Nothing We Can Do For Him

"I'm really sorry ma'am, but there's nothing we can do for him, you brought him too late. His organs had already stopped functioning presumably thirty minutes ago, I'm sorry, but he's no more" the nurse attending James said to Amy.

"No, no, no you don't understand. You see I saw him like one hour ago well and okay, you cannot tell me that he is dead Mrs Nurse" Amy said deniably. The nurse could not help but smile wryly. She went to James' corpse and covered his entire body with a blanket.

Seeing what the nurse did, Amy rushed to the bedside and yanked the bedsheet away from the body. "He cannot die unless I say he's dead!" Amy said and started sobbing violently. Her worst fear came true. James was finally dead. Despite all she did to protect him, he still passed away without her realizing it.

The funny thing was that Charles didn't lay his hands on him at all. It was like no matter what she did, James was going to die anyway. She looked at the corpse and cried harder.

"Let me take him home," Amy said after crying for more than thirty minutes. The nurse who had arrived like five minutes ago nodded and informed Amy to follow her for the paperwork.

A middle-aged morgue attendant was whistling to a tune he was playing on his cellphone while pushing a bed that had a corpse of an eleven-year-old boy. "Hey yo, prepare yourself to rob the bank, hey yeah…" the man sang along and shook his body to the rhythm. When he approached the cold room, he brought out a key and unlocked the door, then pushed the bed inside.

When the man entered the room, he stopped the music and removed the earpiece from his ears. He then stretched and yawned like he just woken up. "Oh man, even on the millionth time I come here, I cannot still get used to the freezing temperature," the man said and grinned wildly.

The man proceeded to walk over to a row of fridges and pointed at one, before pulling it open. "Huh, this one is very popular. I have put more than hundreds of bodies on this baby, and it still smells great" the man kept rambling as he still maintained his grin.

He headed to the corpse brought the bed closer to the fridge and pressed a button on the bed to lift it up, but it was not working. The man tried and tried, but it doesn't seem to budge. "Whatever, I can just carry him over, he's a little boy anyway" the man shrugged and took the corpse by the arms and put him on the rack of the fridge.

"This young lad's body seemed to be warmer than usual. Oh well, freshly died, that's too bad, ha-ha" the man smiled as he continued whistling the tune he listened to a minute ago.

After closing the fridge, he then walked away with the bed he was carrying and closed the door behind him, humming along the way.

Inside the morgue, James lifeless corpse was laying there for more than fifteen hours. Despite the very low temperature, his body maintained a degree of warmness. Constant drops of liquid could be heard from one of the sections of the fridges nearby as the room was completely silent.

His skin was already cleaned of all bloodstains, with dried reddish wounds where blood had once flown out, and the complexion of his skin was lighter than when he was alive.

Inside of his body, his heart had stopped beating, but his brain was silently active, undetectable even to the medical brain scanner in the hospital.

The chip was rhythmically pulsing electrical charge on the brain stem, keeping the brain alive and undamaged. Although the brain was somewhat active, it was on deep hibernation. James brain could not do anything to restart all his vital organs, though, it could detect very little changes in his body.

James first kidney had just died, and his liver is going on the same road. His larynx was severely damaged, and his excretory system was lax. The situation of James was getting worse and worse.

Suddenly, something unexpected happened. The oil coming out of a corpse below James' fridge that was constantly dropping all the way below to the base of the fridge columns completely rotted out the metal, boring a tiny hole. Because of the constant dripping on the fridge, it had exposed wiring, and as the oil dropped, the wire shorted, transferring electrical charges to the metal fridges.

The corpses could not feel the electricity pass through their body, but one corpse felt it. Immediately the charge passed through his body, James' body convulsed violently, and his heart suddenly began beating erratically, before stopping. The charge also affected his brain, as the normally rhythmic charge the chip was sending to his brain became disorganized and went into a frenzy.

Since there was no one to resolve the situation, James body constantly received an electric shock, making his heart beat uncontrollably, sometimes one beat in a minute, ten beats in a minute.

This continued for a while until finally, James' heart started to pulse in a stable rhythm, albeit laboriously. The blood in his body was not enough to create sufficient blood pressure, as a result, some parts of his body did not receive blood circulation.

James began making strange sounds like all the stored air in his lungs began escaping from his mouth and his eyes were moving around his sockets randomly. It was terrifying to watch.

The human body is really amazing. The moment his heart started beating, and blood circulated through his vital organs, James liver immediately began converting the stored fat in his body to energy, sufficing for the lack of nutrients. The stored water on his stomach made its way to his liver, which converted it to red blood cells, boosting his blood contents.

All of James vital organs were working again, thanks to the brain that quickly assisted in forming order by sending hormones throughout his body. After confirming his vital organs were functioning properly, except his damaged left kidney, it then attempted to restart his consciousness.
