Chapter 9 - Lonely Forgotten Self

The AI began to calculate something in his mind.

'I would answer all your questions, but I cannot do that while an external entity is still fiddling with your limbs, please hold on until she is finished." The AI said. James then nodded and stared at the doctor adjusting his drip. He could hear voices all around him.

'Please my beautiful daughter, wake up

'Why can't this old woman just stay the f*ck down let me put her to sleep'

'No, sigh she died, now I have to break this bad news to the expectant family outside'

'Ba ba black sheep, have you any wool'.

'Finally, she would die! All the money in her will would belong to me"

'Man just f*cking die already, I cannot afford wasting my savings because of you this wretched soul.

He was astounded by all the voices he could hear clearly. For the first time, he saw the power of the mind. A person just thought 10 random things in 1 second. He could not believe how fast a person's mind was. He was indeed amazed.

However, he also saw the dark side of humanity. He could not even believe that someone thought bad things to their loved ones at a hospital. Even people he thought loved each other was secretly conspiring against each other. He saw a grandma and someone that looked like her young lover smiling in his mind about the money he would rake after she died.

These thoughts began to pressure James state of mind, he then brought back all the stats projected in his eyes and switched off telepathy. He then slumped into the bed, staring at the white ceiling above.

After the doctor was done, she then packed her utilities and left the room, leaving James deep in thought. 'AI, please explain to me. 'Alright, but before I start why don't you check your stats to determine your current health? You have to first see what you can do, then I would tell you everything. Try it now.' The AI spoke back in his mind.

James agreed and requested his stats.

End of system info.

James could not stop being surprised. He had never seen anything like this before. All the detailed stats about his own body marvelled at him. He could check his health without having to see a doctor. That thought almost excited him.

'Not only that, you can heal yourself.' The AI said. "Seriously? I can heal myself?'" James exclaimed loudly.

The AI laughed inside him. 'You don't need to talk for me to hear you, your thoughts are just fine. Oh okay, but seriously? Doesn't all these healing things seem a bit fictional.? I'm not sure science supports this theory' James wondered. 'You know what aNA is for?'

'Don't you know what DNA is for? It stores information like a memory card, so when a cell is damaged, the cells can copy the instructions and communicate to other cells, which in turn, replace that damaged cell. Don't you know that?' the AI asked.

James wanted to reply, but he was interrupted again. 'You don't know, I've scanned all your brain data. Alright, let me explain to you why cancer cells or any other cells do not often repair themselves sometimes.

You see, just like any living thing in the universe, cells need nutrition. It takes those nutrients and converts them to protein, the food of the cells. The cells will in turn divide themselves, replacing any cancerous cells in the body. Then the leukocytes will then take over and remove those damaged cells.

'But for cancer patients, they lack these essential nutrients and leukocytes to perform this healing process. It is usually caused, sometimes by a damaged gene, or improper management of the antibodies that coordinates the production of these cells, thereby increasing the numbers of damaged cells in the body.

'Manually controlling the reproduction and repairs of cells can help a person a lot. You can choose whose cells are not useful, which might be great to up your health, and how many leukocytes you produce when you are sick. Your body does this automatically, but people are different.

"The body's defence system sometimes would delay this process, which might be fatal for most people. Just imagine the kind of power you would have if you can heal yourself rapidly.

'You can also regenerate missing parts of your body. But that would take skills and patience' the AI breathlessly explained.

James was overwhelmed by the information overload. He requested the AI to store all his explanations in his long-term memory, which the AI promptly did.

James was not sure if what the AI told him was true, or if it was just fabricated nonsense. But there was truth in that explanation. Though he did not know who he was for the moment, he knew he was a unique person.

At least that was what the AI said.

James then wanted to sit up and study all the floating information in front of his eyes, but his eye got attracted to a book on top of a table. He went ahead and took it.

It was that diary the middle-aged woman brought out from her bag. She left it here intentionally so that when James was slightly responsive, he would read it and maybe remember a life he did not know yet. He flipped through the pages and stopped at a random page.

"Date: 21st of March 2018

Hi, diary. We meet again. I never thought that I would write again because of what happened to me today. My schoolmate bullied me, again. He punched me on the chest and hit my head on a swing. I went unconscious. The doctor soon told me I broke part of my skull, so they had to remove some bone fragments that reached my brain. It still hurts, but the pain was not as bad as it was. Luckily, they expelled that mean boy.

Everybody in my class hates me because of this. I did not do anything to him. He attacked me first, and I did not even fight back. I know it wasn't my fault anyway.

They even mentioned something about my skin again. I have darker skin than most of my classmates in my class, so I was often bullied because of it. Maybe black skin is a disease. I want to wash it off!

Thank you, my diary, for being my only friend."

James could see dried up water droplets from the page. It seemed his forgotten self was lonely. He was bullied by his classmates all the time, and to cap it all, he was disliked by his entire class because he was weird and dark-skinned!

James wanted to close the diary, but then he remembered something. He then went to the last page to see what his forgotten self last documented. He wanted to know what happened to his forgotten self.

25th Friday, November 2022.

Thanksgiving Day.

Today is the most exciting day of my life. My mom is making a lot of peanut butter cookies, which you know, is my favourite, and we're eating a big turkey, hmmm, and oh, she invited her mom and dad and her brothers and her sisters. I have not personally met them, but maybe they would like me like my mom and dad.

I would also meet my cousin, and fingers crossed, we might bond like brother and sister I never had__ Oh my mom called me, be right back!"

The diary ended there. James knew that what happened after that was what caused him to be in a hospital. He was confused and emotional for his forgotten self. Imagine how lonely he was before this incident. He broke down and sobbed painfully.
