[7 minutes more James!] the AI alarmingly said, prompting James to wake up and hastily ran to the door where the pilots reside. "Knock Knock! Please answer me please open the door" James begged the pilots inside the pilot cabin.
"Who's there? Please go back to your seat. The attendance would take care of what you want" one of the pilots voiced out, trying to shoo the person disturbing them.
"No, it's very urgent! Please reduce the power from the second engine. The engine is failing PLEASE!" James tearfully begged. He could not understand why the alarm system of the aircraft would not warn them of the impending doom of the engines. They might not have seen it, or they decided it was not that much of a big deal.
The commotion attracted the flight attendants, as they hastily scurried towards the source of the commotion, and seeing that it was a little boy, they assumed that he lost his way to the toilet. "Hey honey, are you lost? The toilet is not this way alright? Come let me lead you there" the female attendant said.
"No, I'm not lost! Please inform the pilot that the second engine is failing and that if he did not relieve the load from the engine, in under—4 minutes we are going to die!" James frantically begged. He wished that they could believe his story.
However, the attendants looked at each other, then looked at James and smiled. "Aww, you were having a bad dream. Alright show me your seat, don't worry I will take you to your mom okay? Come on" the other female attendant slowly said. Then they tried to take him by his hand, but James hastily pulled out his hand.
"No, I'm not dreaming. It's real please, I beg you! Tell the pilots that we are about to DIE!" he said, loudly emphasizing the word 'DIE'. The commotion then woke some of the passengers of the plane. "What's going on?" one of the passengers tiredly asked, rubbing her eyes.
"Oh, I'm sorry we woke you up. Everything is fine. It's just that he doesn't know where the toilet was. Please go back to sleep" the latter attendant apologized, desperately trying to drag James back to his seat.
[3 minutes more James.] the AI warned James.
James could see that the attendants were of no help, so he diverted another plan. He could not convince these attendants, so why not add other passengers to his league. "Everyone, please wake up! This plane is about to crash, because of a malfunction of an engine. Please help me try to convince the pilots to solve this problem. Please help us!" James shouted, successfully waking everyone.
"What is this?" a male passenger tiredly asked. Martha woke up also because of the commotion and saw that James was not in his seat, but at the door of the pilot's cabin. She then hastily walked to James. "Is this your son?" the first attendant asked, obviously frustrated with the whole situation going out of control.
"Yes, this is my son. James, what's going on? Please go back to your seat and avoid this nonsense." Martha angrily said. Martha could not understand why James was behaving this way. Could it be from the medicine he was taking? Or was his brain badly damaged to the point he could hallucinate?
As these were going on, the pilot's door opened. One of the pilots emerged and requested what was going on. After the attendants explained what was happening, he then faced James and asked "Hi kid. What makes you sure that the second engine is failing? And how did you know about the second engine failing?" the pilot queried.
James did not know how to explain to the pilot, but he was not going to explain to him, not when his new family's life is on the line. "Please check the engine from the dashboard. You'll see. Please hurry!" James hastily replied.
Seeing how adamant this strange kid was, the pilot has no choice but to go to check. If this kid was wrong, then everything would go back to normal, and his irresponsible mother would keep a careful eye on him. He then sighed and went to check. But he was shocked.
That kid was right after all! The temperature difference of both engines was too wide! The first engine reads 926.2-degrees celsius, while the second engine read 1215-degree Celsius!
The pilots then quickly gauge the oil content of both engines, and seeing no problem with that, checked the engine cooler. That was where the problem was. The engine cooler of the second engine was not working.
They then dropped the altitude of the aeroplane 10,000 feet lower. Seeing no progress, they went ahead and reduced the power of the second engine, causing the aircraft to sway dangerously. Meanwhile, in the passenger's cabin, the flight attendant was making an announcement, assuring them to calm down and fasten their seatbelt.
The passengers were very scared. Some began to pray to their gods. Some started crying. The whole cabin was in chaos. James then laid down the floor and closed his ear, desperately praying that this nightmare comes to an end.
After what seemed like forever, the plane stopped shaking. Then an announcement was made. "Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to inform you that everything has been resolved. The plane would keep flying to its destination. We are very sorry for the inconvenience. Have a safe flight!"
A visible sigh of relief washed over the passengers. Then they all looked at James and gave him a round of applause. They cheered for James because he had just saved their dear lives.
James could not believe that he pulled it off. He had thought he would lose the only family that loved him. He was so happy he got emotional. He ran over to Martha and hugged her tightly. "I cannot lose you aunt" he shakily sobbed. Martha was surprised, before hugging him back in tears. Esther joined in the hug, then Nicolas, then the entire family.
[Well done James, you saved the lives of your family] the AI silently appreciated James, to which James nodded.
James and the Harts family arrived in Hawaii without any hassle before they decided that they should rent a hotel and sleep off the terrible nightmare of their recent flight, to which they all agreed.
Martha booked a four-room hotel and signalled her family to follow her. When they reached the door, they divided. Martha and Toby, John and Anthony, Esther and Nicolas, then James. Martha purposefully placed James in one room per his request. James wanted to be alone.
When James entered his lounge, he dropped his body to the large bed, exhausted. 'Long day' he thought, and quicky he slept.
