Chapter 17 - Consequences II

Once Null was back on the ship, Zero had told him and the other humans to go have some sleep as tomorrow was going to be an important day in their lives and they should face it well-rested. None of the humans understood what he meant by that but they were all tired, so were happy to comply.

The next morning two battleships had gated in while the humans slept. The first was a sleek black sphere this was a Valtaui battleship. The Valtaui Collective is a tier 2 race that consists of a collective of artificial intelligences that shares a hive mind. Their bodies are made up of nanites that are connected to the unit core via advanced field manipulation. They can shapeshift at will but usually take the form of a 1-foot diameter sphere.

The second battleship belongs to the dwarfs. It was a long and thin spaceship full of geometric patterns. Dwarfs are a tier 5 race and were short and shout humanoids whose homeworld had 2 times that of earth. They were an honourable race who enjoyed nothing more than having a drink and telling stories. They made quick friends but were known to hold grudges.

The Watcher opened two smaller portals for representatives from each ship to arrive.

"Welcome, let me introduce myself Tier 3, The Watcher, Order of Angels, First Sphere" The Watcher offered up the typical galactic introduction. Race ranking, name, race name, position. This welcome was designed so those of the higher tiers received the respect they believed they deserved.

"Tier 2, unit7321, Valtaui Collective, Elite Enforcer" they were able to transmit the message into everyone mind without speaking. Unit7321 continued. "I received a request from the council about a code 0 breach and have come to investigate." The Watcher knew that code 0 was a fancy way of saying Alterran.

"Welcome, Tier 5, Varr Anrak, Dwarven Kingdom, Ranger Clan". Varr had been sent here to investigate the detected use of fields and to see if humans were ready to be integrated into the galactic society. He was also sent as The Watcher had failed to file his reports and the sensors kept detecting more and more field manipulation.

Varr had no idea what a code 0 breach was, but for them to send an Elite enforcer was a worrying sign. He would watch to see how things would play out.

"Let see what do we have." The Valtaui floated over to each person to scan them. He stopped when he reached Null as his scan failed to work. The Valtaui suddenly showered Null in nanites which quickly formed into restraints.

The Watcher step in before Null could react. "Null relax, don't fight it"

Null had decided to accept the consequences and didn't want to make trouble for Zero so he didn't fight it.

"Angel the council will have many questions for you and it can't wait"

It was decided that the Valtaui, The Watcher and Null would go and brief the council while the dwarves would look after the humans. The Watcher asked Varr to assist with Jania case.

After the three of them had left, Varr took Lisa, Chris and Jania over to his ship. He introduced them to an ancient-looking dwarf who had an extremely long grey beard and was wearing a shimmering metal-like robe. In his left hand, he was carrying an ornate staff covered in crystals.

"Welcome, my name is RuneMagi Vark Kuric and I'm a member of technomage association. The Watcher has asked that I assist in helping the young lady."

"wait how can we understand you?" Lisa was confused, once Zero left she hadn't been able to understand anything.

"that because I'm using a translation implant and The Watcher had uploaded your language into our database"

After further discussion with Runemagi Vark where he outlined the same options as Zero. Lisa had come to her decision to allow Vark to install a sensory implant into Jania. In the end, the implant had the bare minimum of sensors and bare-bones AI to manage them. Vark had informed them it could be upgraded in the future as she grew more used to it.

After creating the implant the dwarfs operated on Jania they had been supplied with detailed scans by unit7321. This had allowed for the operation to succeed without much risk.

"arrrh, my head ?" Jania was extremely confused the last thing she remembers was being asked by Colonel Carter to come to the medical room.

"Jania, it's me Chris from the officer group, I will explain everything but we just need to run some tests".

"I don't feel so good." Jania then proceed to vomit into the bag provided. Vark had warned them of this possibility. He explained that Jania now had more sensors than regular humans and that it would be overwhelming until she had trained her brain to adapt to them. Lisa guided Jania through the process of controlling and calibrating her implant.

Afterwards, Chris explained everything as well as he could. She asked many questions trying to get a handle on the situation but honestly. The memories were still there but they had felt like it was happening to someone else.
